Mason County Update 11/27 7:30 am

Sweaters! MCAWL is going to need dog sweaters, all sizes, and fast! The "building" the county wants us to use has no amenities! No heat, water, etc! Trying to get pictures and more information posted on our site ASAP.

Blankets/towels/beds too. Stray/hay bales, carpet samples, etc. Anything that will keep dogs/cats/puppies/kittens warm!

Please ask everyone to send dog sweaters of all sizes to the PO address on our website, as that's closest to the shelter. The county is already making us pick up stray dogs, even though they have nowhere to house them! It's freezing down here!

Anything sent to the PO Box or PayPal address on this website goes directly to the people caring for the animals. The county DOES NOT have access to these places. Anything sent to the MD address will be delivered to MCAWL (NOT the county) when we are operational again.

Please mail urgent items to the PO Box. Thanks for anything you can do! To find out if there's a Petsmart or Petco or any other store that can help close by, visit their websites and put this zip code into their store locater: 25550

Does anyone know of any buildings in our area with heat/water/electric that will allow us to house animals? If so, please email us ASAP! Thanks!

Update 11/24 7:00 pm

Happy Thanksgiving

Derrick went back to the shelter this morning and found 2 more missing dogs. They were sleeping in the laundry room!

A kitten and 3 puppies have been reported safe in foster care. Thank you to the caring residents who took them in and notified us of their whereabouts!

As of this posting, all email inquiries sent to MasonCAWL@yahoo.com have been responded to. If you emailed us yesterday or earlier today and have not received a response, please resubmit your inquiry.

Rescue/adoption inquiries are being responded to in this order: Rescues who have worked with us in the past, followed by new rescue offers, followed by adoption inquiries. We do not have a place for our animals to stay long term at this time and so need to place as many as possible with rescues. Those animals healthy enough to travel will be getting health certificates tomorrow and prepped for transport to rescues this weekend.

Emotions are running high with MCAWL members and staff as we struggle to come to terms with this tragedy. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help out in our time of need. Your thoughts, prayers, and support have meant alot and have kept us all going.

A special thanks goes to our shelter staff and everyone who was there with them at the time of the fire. We are in awe of what all of you did that day. To say you went above and beyond the call of duty does not come close to conveying our amazement and gratitude for what you accomplished in such a short time.

To those who arrived later that day/night to take in our animals in response to the TV and internet pleas for help, thank you! We are humbled by your outpouring of support.

To our current rescue friends (and to the new rescues we've made contact with this week), thank you for all you've done for us in the past and are doing in the present, and thank you on behalf of all of the animals you rescue on a daily basis. The world needs more people like you!

We are planning a memorial service for December 3. Details will be posted as soon as they are available.
