Ear Tipping Feral and Outdoor Cats
It's important that cats who live outside have their ear tipped. Ear tipping is universally recognized and signals that the cat has been spayed or neutered.
While the cat is under anesthesia approximately 1/4 inch of the left ear is removed. There is little or no bleeding, it is relatively painless to the cat, and the ear tip does not significantly alter the appearance or beauty of the cat. Ear tipping is much less traumatic than being captured by an unfamiliar person and having a second surgery attempted.
All outdoor cats being spayed or neutered under the Maddie's Fund grant will be ear tipped.
It is highly recommended that all outdoor cats are ear tipped.
