Helpful Hearts is a program that allows people who can't adopt a pet to become sponsors to some of our permanent residents. Those animals are the ones most would call "undesirables"... old, chronically ill, or just too scared of the outside world to be adopted. These animals will stay at the shelter for the remainder of their lives unless the perfect home arises for their circumstances. These animals, through no fault of their own, were never socialized as babies and then dumped on us as scared adults or came to us with disabilites, illnesses or simply as senior citizens that were thrown away by their families. They are beautiful in our eyes and deserve the same love and care as all the rest. The Helpful Hearts program was started to give people a chance to help these poor souls and not have to commit to the daily responsibilities. A monthly gift in their animals name will make their life a little better, and the sponsor parent will receive a picture and letter from their sponsored "child". |

| If you have one hour a week to volunteer you could help ... |
- Create or update/manage website
- Drop-off or pick up supplies, donations, food etc
- Write and/or format a newsletter
- Take pictures of animals, events or kids
- Make crafts for groups to sell/sell crafts and donate $
- Foster an animal (not really an hour but I had to get it in)
- Make, distribute and collect donation jars
- Place a donation bin at a business and collect once a month
- Complete home checks for rescue groups
- Donate your services (vet, lawyer, web designer, printer, CPA)
- Distribute flyers or create flyers for adoptable animals

- Organize a donation drive at your office
- Surf the internet for free things groups can use
- Take animals to vet/grooming appointments
- Send out a weekly e-newsletter about adoptable pets
- Set up a table and pass out information about the group
- Send/Answer emails
- Make or return phone calls
- Pick up extra supplies at the store
- By extra stamps and donate to the group
- Pay for an advertisement in a paper, magazine or online
- Post ads online/post info on Craigs List etc ...
- Spread the word about rescue! Talk to friends and colleagues
