Tail Tales~Tales of TARPS Adoptees~If you would like to share your story of your TARPS pet, please email tarps_animals60@hotmail.com. ![]() "Bud (a.k.a. Muslin) adjusted beautifully to going outside. He's an inside/outside now...just what we were hoping. He's so energetic at times, he needs that kind of space to burn off the excess. He plays really well...even fetches! And entertains himself well too. He's very affectionate and loves being handled. I think his old environment was too...I don't know...but it resulted in him being jumpy. After the first week or two, he began to figure out that this is a quiet, predictable home...no one is going to swat at him or chase him if he's getting into mischief, and he's going to be handled in a gentle, relaxed way. Suddenly he began sleeping a lot, exposing his belly, stretching lazily, cleaning often...as if he knew he could now completely relax." ~Ellen & Joe ![]() "Pumpkin is doing great. His new name is Thomas Edison (aka "Tommy"). As Thomas Edison was also deaf but very smart. The first two weeks home, Tommy cried all night. He needed constant assurance that he would be alright in the dark and that nothing was going to creep out of the corner. That has since stopped. He would also always get on the counter top or I would even find him sleeping on the cabinets above the refrigerator while I was away at work. Tommy has since stopped that and is now comfortable enough to just sprawl out on the couch any time of day whether we are home or not. If we are home, he is sure to be close to someone and will even lay at my feet if I have company over and we play board games. Tommy is the most mellowest cat I have ever encountered. He loves to be brushed and have his belly rubbed. In fact, he will fall fast asleep with his belly being rub. He has a couple toys that he loves to play with and you will see him go dashing thru the house for a moment or two." ~Vicki ![]() "Well, its been about a month since I adopted Loki & Simba. Seeing them "run the house" is like they have been here for years! The first few days were rough for them because they didn't know us very well. My husband, who prefers dogs to cats, even enjoyed their company. We actually were given a dog last weekend when we were in Maine visiting my in-laws. He's a 3 yr old Golden Retriever/Yellow lab mix. He's an awesome dog! He actually wants nothing to do with the cats. He's fascinated with them, but he won't chase them. The pets all had to get used to our indoor rabbit, and they have for the most part. Santa was very good to them. The cats got treats and toys in their stockings. They love anything with cat nip! Some cat nip toys did not last a week of play! The cats have their own individual personality. Loki is your best friend during the day. Simba makes it clear that the wants to sleep, but Loki purrs and loves the attention if she's woken up from a nap. Simba is your best friend at night; he's the first one on our bed at night. Loki likes to be under the covers, but has to share our pillows; Simba prefers being on our chests. So, as you can see, we're having lots of fun with our new pets!!! I knew I wanted 2 cats that had been together in the same household and I certainly don't regret that decision. I also knew we wanted cats and not kittens. We didn't have the time to train kittens; these cats came to us with their own personalities and they are truly a riot!!! They are so different, but they get along so well. They eat out of the same bowl, at the same time. It's so cute! Thanks for posting them on the web because if it wasn't for that, we never would've found them!!!" ~Hillary, Rob, Abbott, Simba, Loki and Jackson | |
