What is a Sanctuary Dog?

Sanctuary dogs tend to fall into two categories.

The first type is the adoptable yet overlooked, sometimes older, sometimes younger, sometimes maybe not the best looking in the bunch. These are dogs that still have so much love to give and have sat waiting very patiently for a home to call their own. For these special sweethearts we are still looking for their "forever" home. If you have an empty place in your heart that needs filling -- consider a sanctuary dog.

The second type of sanctuary dogs are the ones that will live at the rescue forever. These dogs tend to either suffer from health problems, extreme shyness or just simply senior citizens. The rescue will care for these dogs with the best care we can give until it is their time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

LONG TERM SANCTAURY DOGS LOOKING FOR LOVE….

Sallie
Meet sweet Sallie….this nice girl was abandoned at a rental house by her owner a few years ago. Sallie was brought to the rescue at 3 years old and it’s now 3 years later. She is a beautiful Australian cattle dog mix. Sallie is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly to be a loyal loving soul. This nice girl needs a home where someone will take a lot of time with her and show her how grand life can be. The rescue is still hoping someone will adopt this nice girl because she has so much love to give.

Beemer
Meet dear lovable Beemer….this nice boy just wants to belong to someone. He is approximately 6-7 years old and has been at the rescue for 3 years. Beemer is very athletic and can climb chain link so he needs a home where he is leash walk or has a privacy/invisible fence. This older gentleman loves people and children of all ages. He does well with other animals and is just full of personality. The rescue is still hoping someone will adopt this nice boy and give him the home he’s been waiting for.

Sophie
Meet the beautiful SOPHIE. This black and tan girl is approximately 3 years old and has been waiting over a year for a place to call home. Sophie is shy at first and will need a home without small children. She would be happiest with a home where she is a big part of the family. Sophie does well with other dogs and is eager to please once her initial shyness has passed. The rescue is still hoping for Sophie to find her “human buddy”.

John
Meet handsome JOHN. This beagle boy is approximately 5 years old and currently on the chubby side. John has a wonderful personality and does well with children of all ages and other animals. He is a quiet, easygoing soul who deserves to be someone’s couch potato. John has been with the rescue for well over a year now and has been so patient. The rescue is hoping someone will give this nice, deserving boy a chance at the good life.

PERMANENT SANCTUARY DOGS

Larry
Little Larry was rescued from the Hanover County Pound in April 2004. This little fella was one of 49 small breed dogs that were not kept in good conditions. Larry has never learn to trust people and will live out his days being cared for to the best of our ability. He is quite happy to spend his days laying on his Kuranda bed with plenty of food and fresh water to drink and hanging out with his buddy Curly who was also rescued.

Frenchy
FRENCHY was rescued from the Caroline County Pound in July 2006. This 14 year old boy was turned in by his owner. Frenchy was in terrible shape and his teeth were so bad he was sick. This little boy shows all the signs of abusive and will live out his life here at the rescue. Frenchy is a grumpy old man but we love him.

Suzie
Sweet SUZIE was rescued from the Hanover County Pound several years ago. This poor little beagle girl had never been socialized and was used only for puppies. The rescue tried to help Suzie overcome her issue but she only wanted to hide. Suzie has grown old here and will always have a place at the rescue. She is as happy & comfortable as we can make her. Suzie is an example that emotional neglect is as bad as physical neglect for animals.
