Loverboy’s Story

This sweet kitty was a stray to the rescue in March 2008.  He was still young and it took time for him to trust us.  Once this boy warmed up he was just such a lover it was appropriate to name him Loverboy.  He was neutered and had his shots done and was quite the happy cat until….

On February 24-25, 2009 someone cruelly decided to shoot Loverboy in the mouth with a 22 caliber gun.  The bullet actually entered through his mouth and lodged itself between the ear canal and the skull.  This poor cat was horribly wounded and left to suffer.

Amazingly Loverboy made his way back home to the rescue…he was curled up in the mulch by the door just waiting for someone to help him.  Even though he had to be in terrible pain when he was picked up he didn’t scratch or bite.  He just nuzzled into me and started to purr.

Loverboy has received extensive emergency veterinary care as well as surgery.  He spent over 4 weeks on a feeding tube while his shattered right jaw bone healed then had to have his ear canal cleaned out and closed because the bullet disconnected his ear canal from his skull.  He has made a wonderful recovery and once again a happy cat…an indoor cat now of course.

Loverboy’s vet bills were extensive  and the rescue is hoping for help from fellow animal lovers.  If you are able please send your tax-deductible donation to the rescue at PO Box 1505, Ashland VA 23005.  You may also donate online at our website by using PayPal.

If you have any information about this crime please call Hanover County Animal Control at (804) 365-6140. Ask for Investigator Wade.

A sad update on Lovrboy!

Loverboy-5

Sadly on November 24, 2009 Loverboy crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  After fighting so hard to recover from the cruel act of being shot in the mouth we had to let him go.  Loverboy was such a special kitty and he did have quality of life and was spoiled rotten until it was his time to go.  He is missed on a daily basis at the rescue and we hope to see him again one day at the bridge.
