Charlie

Dear Foster Mom Nancy,

Words are not adequate to express my gratitude for the gift of Spot (whom we call Charlie) in the lives of all of us here on Old Woman Farm. He is a treasure: thank you to everyone who helped to save this wonderful animal. In the two days he has been here, he behaves as if he has always been here: helping in the orchard-to-be (he is a prodigious digger of holes), ranging far and near (but always within call), chasing the bad hens who fly out of their dog proof yard (but ceasing to chase when I call him back), flopping on the floor next to Vera when they are both ready to rest, eager to play and to please. Vera is exhausted but patient with the ear nibbling, hip bumping, and invitation to "play with me, please." She does not like it when he sits on her, but otherwise, all is well. We now have two squeaky toys (which, as you know, is unnecessary, as both dogs want the same one) and I give off a faint odor of dog treats everywhere I go.

We have an appointment with the vet on Thursday to update his shots and get the appropriate heartworm and now intestinal parasite meds. I gathered a stool sample tonight when I saw white wrigglers in it. I promise to continue his good care.

Tonight, he was playing gently with the kitten Banjo (who is about his age). She was on the table top, swatting at his nose, and he sat beneath her, not jumping, but putting his nose at the edge of the table to be swatted at ... she was purring, and he was wagging his tail.

Again, my great thanks for the good work you do.

Servusztok,
Linda S.
