Baby’s Story
The rescue first met Baby in 2002
when she came to visit the kennel with her family looking for a doggie
friend. This lady had truly been treated like a baby…she ate whatever
her human parents were eating, even steak! Even though she was spoiled
she was still well behaved and smart as could be. Aaron, a nice hound
mix that wouldn’t hunt went home with them as Baby’s new friend.
An unexpected yet blessed event occurred in Baby’s home….her
human parents had a baby….Baby was no longer the baby…
Sadly this lead to problems because Baby could not accept the new little
one. In July 2004 Baby was brought to the rescue…her owners were
beside themselves but truly had no other choices. They had raised her
from a puppy and she was now 5 years old. This was a hard day for Baby
and for the family that had to leave her behind. They were able to keep
Aaron who was happy and doing well with the little one.
Baby quickly became “Baby Girl” here at the rescue. She was
fearful and somewhat anxious about her new surroundings. You can’t
blame her…she went from a spoiled indoor “Baby” to being
in a 10x10 kennel, 24 hours a day. Well, time heals all wounds…and
Baby Girl did heal. She began to respond to us and want to be loved. We
could take Baby Girl out of her kennel and just let her run here at the
farm. She never left our sight (except once after some deer)…. and
loved to play fetch and shake for treats. She minded like a dream and
was just such a wonderful dog….
Baby Girl was still sitting here
in August 2006…she never received much interest when adopters came
to visit. Nobody ever asked to see her out of her kennel. Who knows why
this beautiful girl was overlooked….time and time again…
Well…the rest of the story is continued by the wonderful family
who came to see Baby Girl and knew she was the right one for them….Baby
Girl quickly learned how to be just the “Baby” again…

A VERY HAPPY TALE
Baby
Girl has only been a joy since she was adopted
by our family in August. A lot of people said “why do you want an
older dog?” Well this dog has been a blessing to everyone in our
house. Not only is she totally housebroken, but she understands all commands
such as sit, shake and roll over. She is very active and thinks she is
a puppy. The best part of adopting a dog over five years old is that they
have been waiting a long time to give a family love and they have so much
to give. She is the sweetest most loving dog ever. Of course we love her
to pieces also and can’t stop kissing and hugging her too. She obviously
was given a lot of love at Hickory Hill Canine Rescue and we could see
that when went to visit her after viewing her on the “Petfinder.com”
website. So the moral of this tail is, don’t judge a dog by his
or her age. Give them love and they will give it back no matter how old
they are.
