The Great Charity Mouse-a-thon!
In late April of this year, Wendy Johnson lost her beloved cat Isolde (Izzy) at age 17. By early May, Wendy was ready to begin the process of finding her next great love. As one friend told her, "it's hard to stay sad when there are other kitties around." Just hours shy of Mother's Day, Wendy brought home "Lucy", a beautiful Siamese mix kitty who's previous owners declawed her and then allowed her outdoors. Having no defenses, she was attacked and nearly killed by dogs. The owners refused to treat her, and instead surrendered Lucy to the County Shelter. Thankfully, the Shelter called Capital Animal Care and Lucy received much needed veterinary care.
Today, Lucy is the happy, healthy and beautiful poster cat for Wendy's knitting site: WendyKnits.Net. "Tails" of her antics are shared with an International audience in Wendy's daily knitting blogs (weblogs). To put it mildly, Lucy has a cult following! In honor of her faithful feline companion, Wendy has issued a challenge to her thousands of fans and friends -- the "Charity Catnip Mouse-a-Thon". Readers are provided with a catnip mouse pattern. For every catnip mouse they complete and mail to Wendy, they will earn a raffle ticket for a drawing to be held in October. The catnip mice will be donated to Capital Animal Care to be sold at fundraisers, and to be given to pets of our low income clients.
From what we hear, Wendy is having to designate an entire room of her house for mice! As we speak, mice are being made as far away as France, and for those overseas mice being sent first to Canada for catnip stuffing (no sense in being accused of trafficing 'nip!). If you're interested in purchasing an Izzy Mouse, please email Capital Animal Care at info@capitalanimalcare.org. And for those knitters out there, better get purling!
