How to Adopt a Pet
An adoption counselor conducts an informal adoption counseling
session with the potential family or owner. The process can
being with an email, a phone call to the director, or during an adoption event
at PetsMart. If you inquire online, the process begins with an online Adoption Application. Basically, we try to determine the type of pet the potential
adopter is looking for, find a suitable match, and learn about the kind of life the pet will have in their new home.
Once we feel the potential adopter has met the rescue's
criteria and the pet could be a good match, the adoption can
occur. The animal can be adopted on the same day. If for some
reason the new pet is not working out in the home, the adoption
fee can be returned up to 2 weeks after the adoption takes place.
If the pet is too young for a spay/neuter
surgery, arrangements will be made after the adoption.
Our interviewers do a great job of matchmaking. Most
interviews and adoptions do take place at PetsMart Adoption Events
where we can get to know you better, and
where you can see many different dogs. We work hard to make
successful "mutt-matches," so we help guide you to the
pets that we think are a good fit for you.
