2009 Adoptions

Deuce now has a new home with former adopters. They were ready for another dachshund companion, and spotted Deuce's picture on our website. He is settling in nicely to his new home, and enjoys the company of two other dogs and a great new family. He now has what we most wanted for him the perfect forever home! Hurrah for Deuce!
Jamie has found a wonderful home with the couple who adopted Clyde last year. Now he has two other dog siblings and a home that is a great match for his personality. He loves the big back yard, and is working on mastering the doggie door. Regular walks are a part of the routine and of course he loves sitting on the couch and cuddling with his new family. Wrestling with his buddy Clyde is a fun part of his day! We are thrilled that Jamie has a permanent home that is the right match for him. We thank his new family, and Petfinder!
Dakota was adopted by a lovely family who also has another dog for a playmate for Dakota. He is settling in well, and have re-named him Chance because it was a lucky chance for them that this little dog became available for them to adopt. They told our group "thanks for making our lives complete". What more can you say? We are thrilled!
Congratulations to Sophia, who found a home very quickly. A wonderful woman met her at the Oak Cliff event where we had a table. She knew immediately Sophia needed to live with her. She had lost a beloved companion dog, and was now ready for a new friend. We have received several happy updates on Sophia and her new life. Now known as Sophie J she has a forever home, and her new owner has a wonderful companion.
Happy news! Romo was adopted by a couple with another female dachshund who was longing for a friend and playmate. When we took Romo for a visit, he and their female dachshund immediately took to each other. In terms of appearance and personality, they almost seemed like long lost twins! We've already received pictures of the two dogs playing together and just hanging out. What a wonderful new life, for a little dog who was found originally as a half starved stray!
Zack went to his new home with long time dachshund owners. Their previous dachshund had died of old age, and they missed having a dachshund friend. They wanted a dog who would enjoy being a much loved only dog and Zack was perfect for them. He has settled in nicely, and loves following his new owners around the house, checking out everything they are doing. Zack especially enjoys any activity in the kitchen!
We are thrilled to announce that Lucie & DeeDee have settled in their forever home. A wonderful couple spotted the girls on our site and felt the personalities of these two little dogs would be a great match for their home. We agreed! When we took the girls to visit they made it very clear that this was going to be their new home. Licue and DeeDeelove their big yard where they keep a watchful eye on all the activity around them. They love cuddling up on the couch with their new family. And we love knowing that the girls have such a fabulous home!
Barton found a lovely new home with the couple that also adopted Zoey from us. Now Barton has people who love and appreciate him, and who are experienced with dachshunds. He has a wonderful yard to run and play in, and laps to sit in every night. What more could a little dachshund ask for? Hurrah for Barton!
We knew that Zoey would have a short stay in rescue. With her loving personality and winning smile she quickly found a home with experienced dog owners. They had recently lost a beloved dachshund and were delighted to adopt Miss Zoey. She is settling in nicely to her new home, and will soon welcome another dachshund companion from our program, Barton, to share her new home. Hurrah for Zoey!
Willow (now named Cleo) has settled into her new home quite well. She now lives with a couple who had another middle aged dachshund, so Willow's mellow energy level and personality was a perfect match. They feel as though Willow has always been there, and we do too! It is a special joy when an older rescue dog finds a forever home and we sleep well at night knowing she is now an adored companion.
Journey (now named Jackson) has found a wonderful new home with a delightful family. This is their first dog and they put lots of thought into preparing for pet ownership. We'd love to find more families like theirs! Journey loves to play ball with his new family, and will soon start an obedience class. His family is interested in pursuing agility training down the road, and we will help them find options for that. Hurrah for Journey!
Walker found a fabulous home with a couple who were thrilled to get such a handsome, loving dachshund. His new owners are delighted to have such a fine companion and Walker enjoys walks with them in the lovely park near his new home. He'll never have to worry about being abandoned or allowed to run loose in streets. He found a home so quickly that he did not get to have his formal photos taken!
Hurrah for Jennie! She found a permanent home with the family who adopted Santini from us last fall. She is adjusting nicely to her new home, and keeps her buddy Santini busy and active. Her affectionate nature is appreciated by everyone, and Jennie especially enjoys sunbathing in her new back yard.
Dinucci was adopted by an individual who has one other dachshund. She was looking for a loving, loyal little dog and she couldn't have gotten a better companion than Dinucci! His sweet nature won her over and we are thrilled that this little dog now has a forever home.
Frieda, now named Ginger, was adopted by a wonderful family who had been seeking a loving, dachshund companion. When we received their application we knew this would be a great home for this little dog. Her new family says Ginger hardly has a moment to herself because they all enjoy spending time with her - playing fetch, going for walks and cuddling on the couch. What a great new life for this sweet girl!
Razz found his forever home with a family who had carefully and lovingly prepared for their new arrival. Everything was waiting for Razz: his new family, his new crate, his food....everything a little dachshund could want. We are grateful for wonderful adopters like these folks who are so thoughtful about preparing for the responsibilities of pet ownership. We look forward to hearing about Razz's new life and the fun activities he will do with his new family.
Abby went to her new home in January and is doing well. She enjoys the companionship of a Westie. It took Abby a little bit to get used the energy level of her new playmate, but now they really enjoy interacting. Congratualtions, Abby!

2008 Adoptions

Keno, now renamed Jackson went to his new home in time for the New Year. He had some last minute problems with a respiratory illness, so he remained in rescue and was treated for this until he returned to his normal, bouncy, playful little self. In his new home, he has a playful dachshund mix sibling and a wonderful, loving owner. It was a happy day to see Keno off to his new home.
Scooter (now renamed Sam) had a very short stay in rescue and got a new home and a dachshund brother (coincidentally named Scooter) for Christmas! Scooter/Sam loves having Scooter #1 to hang out with, and we're told he's an excellent cuddler with his new family. What better way to ring in the New Year than with your New Forever Family!
Elroy had an unexpectedly long journey towards good health, with one pesky health issue involving liver enzymes that kept him in the rescue program longer than we had hoped. All along, his patient adopter waited for the day when Elroy could finally be a permanent member of her household. Fortunately, she was able to spend lots of quality time with Elroy while he was still in rescue as his health issues resolved. Finally in early December, Elroy's vet work was complete - and what a joy to finally drive Elroy to his forever home. This is one of the most rewarding moments in rescue, when you know the dog is finally in good health and going to a fabulous new home. We'll sleep well tonight, knowing Elroy is enjoying being a permanent member of his new home.
Hunter was adopted by a couple who are "repeat adopters". They were looking for a red smooth male to add to their family; and Hunter was the perfect match! Hunter enjoys his new home with a large yard where he can pursue squirrels to his heart's content, and he also has 2 other dog siblings to play with. And most importantly, he has a family who loves and cares for him. Hunter's a lucky little dog--and we are thrilled with his new forever home. We look forward to pictures and updates from his new family.
Cute little Sadie has been adopted by experienced dachshund owners, and now has 2 dachshund "brothers" (both previously adopted from DFW Dachshund Rescue). She loves sleeping under blankets in her new home; chewing on her bone toy and of course--sleeping in the "BIG" bed with her family. It's wonderful to know that Sadie has the forever home that we want for all our rescue dogs!
Santini went to his forever home with a wonderful couple and their two children. He is fitting in beautifully, and his new family thinks he's just great. The children enjoy playing with him and he has found a favorite stuffed toy in his new home. We are so happy for Santini! HURRAH!
Bailey finally found the perfect forever home and is learning how to be a cherished part of the family. She has bonded well with her new dachshund sibling, Penny, and there is lots of running and playing going on at their house! Her new owners report "Bailey is a really smart little dog". We appreciate the love and patience her new owners demonstrate as Bailey continues to adjust to her new home.
Strudel (now renamed Lexi) found a wonderful home with an individual who had owned dachshunds in the past. Strudel's sweet, calm nature was a great match for this home, and Strudel is enjoying being an only dog and soaking up all the love!
Onyx was adopted by a wonderful couple who wanted a companion for their dachshund mix. They fell in love with Onyx and report that he is adjusting beautifully. He has learned that acorns in the yard are not a tasty snack! Onyx plays well with his new doggie sibling, and wins rave reviews for his loving nature. Hurrah for Onyx! We are thrilled that he has the forever home he deserves!
Reba (now renamed Rosie) is a new woman - her tough life on the streets is a thing of the past. Reba now has lots of love, tons of treats and a warm wardrobe for winter. She sleeps in the "Big Bed" with her new owners and has a senior dachshund to pal around with. Reba enjoys daily walks with her family and proudly leads the way. Congratulations, Reba, we're so glad we could be there for you, to nurse you back to health, and find you the perfect forever home!
Lyra (now renamed Lucy) was spotted by a visitor to our booth at the recent Mystics, Mutts and Moonpies event. Lyra turned on the charm and this individual instantly fell in love with her. Within a week, Lyra was living in her new forever home and now has a senior sibling dachshund companion. Lyra's new Mom took her to meet her vet, who said "I've never seen a dog from a rescue program that has had such thorough care." Of course, Lyra's affectionate nature won over the vet's heart (and the staff's, too). Congratulations, Lyra, on finding your forever home.
Reesie (now named Myrtle) was adopted by a previous DFW Dachshund Rescue adopter after a very short stay in rescue. She has several other dogs in the family to play with and she's fit in perfectly. Reesie mastered the doggie door quickly, she enjoys playing with her doggie siblings, and is sweet and loving with her family. We're so happy for you, Reesie.
Sukie was quickly adopted and has settled in beautifully with her new family. She loves playing with her longhair dachshund sister, and is sweet and affectionate with her family. Sukie loves taking walks and has started to hold her tail up proudly as she walks as if to say "I love my new forever home!" Congratulations, Sukie!
It was a case of "love at first sight" for Clyde's new family. As soon as they met him, they KNEW he was "the one" for them. Clyde settled into his new home quickly and easily and has displayed excellent house manners. He keeps fit and trim playing with his new doggie sibling, a Jack Russell terrier. When he all tired out, Clyde enjoys snuggling and loving his new family (and they love snuggling and loving him back).
Finally! After a long stay in rescue to complete all her vet work, Smoochie has gone to her forever home. Her new owner also adopted Velvet so Smoochie was very happy to find a familiar doggie face right there in her new home. Smoochie looks quite different than the first day she arrived in rescue. Now she has a shining coat, a sparkle in her eye, a great health report from the vet and a wonderful new life! Hurrah for Smoochie!
Trudy was adopted by owners who are very involved in the sport of dog agility. They were considering another younger dog to train for agility, and although Trudy is not a dachshund--she has the personality, energy and intelligence for this sport. She has found a new home where she is loved and appreciated--and a home where she is kept busy!
Lucky Clifford found his forever home today! He now has 3 doggie siblings; two of them dachshunds. He has a special buddy in one of them and they love to play, play, play. Clifford appears to have a future as a therapy dog, according to his new owners--who plan to investigate this avenue for him. We are so happy for "Clifford the Big Red Dog".
Chachi now named "Levi", has settled into his new home nicely. He loves playing with his dachshund sibling, and is affectionate and loving with his new family! We're happy that he has a wonderful forever home! That's what we work for with all our rescue dachshunds!
Bandit found a wonderful home with a woman who wanted just one dog. This was just what Bandit had requested us to find--a home where he could be "the king". He enjoys 4 walks a day, and napping on a favorite velvet afghan. Thank you to Bandit's new owner for giving him such a fine new life!
There was lots of interest in Roxy but as they say, the early bird catches the worm! She was quickly adopted by experienced dachshund owners and now has a new name, Fiona, and three longhair siblings to hang out with. We still can't figure out why her former owners surrendered such an adorable, well mannered puppy. Roxy reminds us of Sandra Bullock's character in the movie "Miss Congeniality" - she can wrestle with the best of 'em but she can also be a charming little lady. We're thrilled that Roxy finally has a home where her owners love and cherish her.
Wirehair Callie has been adopted and is settling in with her new Dad and longhair dachshund sibling Oscar. Callie LOVES the attention she's getting and her new Dad loves giving it. Callie is having fun exploring her new home and has discovered that barking at strange noises is a really fun game! Says her new Dad, "She's a perfect match for both Oscar and me."
Holly, one of the seven females surrendered by the puppy mill breeder, has completed her heartworm treatment and gone to her forever home. Her new owners are long time dachshund lovers and are delighted with their new family member. Holly has 2 other dachshund "siblings" and a beautiful yard to play in. We know she's thrilled to finally have her heartworm treatment and other ver work behind her and is happy to just run and play like a regular dog.
Hurrah for Cooper! He was adopted by a wonderful couple who had lost a beloved elderly dachshund a few months earlier. They were ready for a new companion and spotted Cooper's picture on our website. It was the perfect match and his new owners are having lots of fun with him! Cooper goes for twice daily walks with his new family and really enjoys his play time.
Blossom has completed her heartworm treatment and other vet work and has finally gone to her forever home. She's got a sibling dachshund, Noodle, to pal around with, but we're pretty certain that Blossom would rather be surgically attached to her new Dad. Fortunately, Blossom's Dad adores his new cuddle-muffin and doesn't mind her preference for full body contact and maximum snuggle time!
Velvet finally completed all her vet work and has gone to her forever home. Velvet happens to be our 100th adoption since DFW Dachshund Rescue transitioned to a foster based rescue program. To celebrate the milestone, she came with a "dowry" of donated Innova Evo food and treats, some "Fur Butter" conditioner to keep her coat silky soft, and a Furminator to keep her coat looking fabulous. Velvet has a doggie sibling, Fred, to play with and a cat, Tiger, who Velvet fnds quite intriguing. Velvet's new Mom has also adopted Smoochie, who will be joining the family soon. We thank her adopter for her patience while Velvet completed her heartworm treatment and other necessary vet work. It was a long wait, but we're sure Velvet is worth it!
Delilah is settling in nicely in her forever home and making friends with sister Angel who was adopted from us last year. Delilah is still a bit timid but we know she'll get over that quickly. Delilah's Mom has endless patience and is experienced at working with timid dogs and building their confidence. We expect to see Delilah's personality blossom over the next few months - she'll be barking orders around in no time!!
It was a case of love at first sight for Sparkles' new parents. When they saw her photo, they knew she was the one for them. Lucky Sparkles is now the Duchess of a large country estate and has every comfort you could imagine - lots of cushy beds, plenty of toys, a large selection of treats, and non-stop love lavished upon her by her new Mom and Dad. Sparkles also has 2 larger doggie siblings who, no doubt, will be at Sparkles' beck and call in no time! Sparkles' Mom works out of the home most of the time, and on those occasions when she does go in to the office Sparkles will be able to accompany her. Congratulations, Sparkles.
Skye has been adopted by a wonderful couple with previous dachshund experience. Skye had to spend a little extra time in rescue while an elevated liver enzyme count returned to normal. Her adoptive family paced the floor in anticipation of her arrival, and they were ecstatic when Skye was finally healthy enough to join their family. Skye will be an "only dog" and her new Mom will be at home with her during the day, so she's sure to get plenty of love and attention.
Kona went home to her new family where she'll have lots of adventures to look forward to. Kona's family are avid RV'ers so Kona will be going along with them to see the world in style. Kona's new sibling, Belle, will no doubt be glad to show Kona the ropes as they hit the road. No arguing over who gets to ride shotgun, OK, girls?
Piebald puppy Homer had a forever home lined up from the moment he arrived in rescue. Former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters were looking to adopt a piebald dachshund, and when we learned that Homer was in need of a good home, we realized it was a perfect match. They adopted Jake, also a red piebald, from us in 2006 and were ready to add to the family. After a short stay in rescue while being treated for minor infections, Homer is now settling in with his new family.
After a bit of a stay in rescue as he awaited his neuter surgery, Ernie has finally gone to his forever home. Ernie was greeted with a welcome sign and balloons, his own little doggie bed, and lots of toys. We don't know who was more excited, Mom and Dad, their two children, or Ernie himself. In fact, Ernie was so busy making himself at home that he never even noticed his foster Mom's departure; fortuantely she didn't take it personally. Have fun with your new family, Ernie. We know you'll keep everyone on their toes!
Lady now has a home with an experienced dachshund owner and will be an "only dog". Lady will be getting all the attention at home, she won't have to share any of her toys, and she'll also get to go to work every day with her Mom. We know that will suit Lady just fine. It won't be long before this little Lady thinks she's become the Queen!
Flower is the first of the seven puppy mill girls to go to her forever home. Flower's family has given her a new name, Annie, to go along with her new life. Annie has a doggie sibling, Alex, to show her how much fun family life can be. We're certain that Annie will settle in quickly and enjoy the comforts of her new home.
After spending five months in rescue to treat a broken jaw and heartworms, we're proud to announce that Dickens' adoption has been finalized! Dickens has been able to spend time with his new family and he's packed and ready to go HOME on June 9th. Dickens' new family are avid sports fans and Dickens already owns a Texas Tech t-shirt! He'll have a sibling dachshund and basset hound to play with, and lots of extended family and dog loving friends nearby. Congratulations, Dickens! You have a big fan club, and we know everyone is happy for you.
Brock now has a family to call his own - a wonderful couple and their two children. Brock also has another dachshund to rough and tumble with. He's a good buddy to everyone and has fit right in with the entire family. We knew the right forever home was out there for Brock, and were willing to wait as long as it took to find them.
Grover's stay in rescue was short and sweet! He was adopted by first time dachshund owners who had really thought through the responsibilities of pet ownership. They saw Grover's photo, which was taken by our rescue photographer Teresa Berg, and knew that Grover was the dog for them. Grover's new family loves to take him for walks and car rides, and they "argue" over who gets to hold Grover next.
Pretzel was quickly adopted by a couple with several other dogs in their household. Pretzel immediately endeared himself to his adopters then quickly made friends with the rest of the "family". We know that Pretzel's new family will enjoy his antics -- but they'll need to get used to playing "Hide and Seek" with their shoes!
Lucky Bonita found a home (along with Rocky) with a lovely couple who have many years of pet ownership experience. Now Bonita has a home full of comfy dog beds, daily walks and lots of love and attention. Congratulations, Bonita!
Rocky had an extremely short stay in rescue - almost as soon as he was posted on Petfinder, he was adopted! Rocky (along with Bonita) now lives with a wonderful couple who have plenty of pet ownership experience. Rocky will be busy chasing the squirrels in his new back yard, and he has a number of comfy dog beds to choose from for his afternoon naps. Congratulations, Rocky!
Astro had a forever home lined up before he completed his heartworm treatment! His adoptive family came to visit Astro a few times while in rescue, and they were anxious for the day when they could finally take Astro home with them. Astro is still a little shy but with all the treats and loving he'll get from his new family he'll soon be thinking "There's no place like HOME."
Bud was adopted by experienced dachshund owners and has made friends with his new sister, Precious. Bud's new family lives within walking distance of Lake Lewisville and takes Bud for walks to the lake several times each day. Bud sleeps in "The Big Bed" and gets plenty of love and attention throughout the day. Congratulations, Bud!
Amalie was adopted by former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters and is keeping doxie siblings Snoopy and Halston (and the rest of the family, too) on their toes! Amalie is energetic and agile and attempts death-defying leaps that nearly bring her adopters' hearts to a stop! Her adopters tell us that Amalie's personality and intelligence mirror those of their beloved first dachshund. "There is no doubt about Amalie. She has picked us. She's our shadow."
Matilda was adopted by a couple with a pre-approved application on file on the same day we received several other requests for applications for her. We were thrilled that there was such an outpouring of support for Matilda and so many people wanting to adopt her. Female dachshunds, especially, are adopted quickly, and it helps to submit your adoption application in advance so it is in our files. That way, when you see a dachshund listed that you are interested in, there is no delay. We're so thrilled that Matilda can quickly resume her life and live out her years in comfort and safety, and will never be abandoned again.
Otto was adopted by a wonderful couple with the last name of Otto, so Otto is now Otto Otto! His owners had originally wanted to adopt a female dachshund, but after seeing Otto's Petfinder listing they knew it was a sign that Otto was meant for them. Otto is now an only dog and adores all the love and attention that is lavished upon him. He proudly takes walks around the neighborhood and already has his own fan club. There's a good chance that Otto will be doing some traveling with his new family and we know he'll enjoy that. We're so happy happy for you, Otto Otto.
Kirby went to his forever home, and joins sister Sadie (originally named Penny) who was adopted from us last June. Kirby and Sadie bonded immediately and take turns chasing each other through the house. Congratulations, Kirby!
Rosie, or more formally, Bella Rose, has made herself right at home. Her new Mom is a previous dachshund owner, and has a pomeranian for Bella Rose to play with. There are also several cats in the household, and we're told that Bella Rose fearlessly guards her Mom from the "pesky kitties" as she sleeps. Congratulations, Rosie; you're finally home!
"Prince" Harry has been adopted by a family with a long history of dachshund ownership. Harry now has a doxie sibling, Millie, to hang out with, and he also has a human brother and sister to play with. Harry seems to know that he's finally "HOME". We're told that Harry is so appreciative, well mannered, and full of affection for his new family. We're sure this "Prince" will soon be "King" of the household! Congratulations, "Prince" Harry!
Daisy was adopted at about the same time she completed her heartworm treatment. She's particularly fond of squirrels, which she desperately wants to chase (but she wasn't allowed to do so during her treatment). We know she'll be happy to be on the go and enjoy life to the fullest once again!
Ally was adopted in early February and is adjusting to her forever home quite well. She's learning to play with her doggie siblings, enjoyed meeting her owner's 4 year old grandson, and didn't make a fuss while she received a bath! Her owners tell us "All seems good so far. Thanks for bringing our girl home!"
Izzy was adopted on January 19 by experienced dog owners and now has a huge yard to explore and two doggie siblings to play with. Izzy is thrilled that she also gets to spend time snuggling in the "Big Bed" with Mom and Dad. Her new Mom is at home most of the day, so Izzy will have a full time job keeping tabs on everyone and everything. Congratulations, Izzy!
Ellis is our first adoption for 2008. He is the "first dog" for a wonderful family. They had wanted a dachshund for a while, and had carefully thought through and researched pet ownership. They were looking for a dachshund who was relatively calm, but still enjoyed walks and liked to play. They also were hoping for a dachshund that didn't look like "all the others". Ellis, with his charming personality and unique dappling, certainly fit their criteria!
