2008 Adoptions

Grover's stay in rescue was short and sweet! He was adopted by first time dachshund owners who had really thought through the responsibilities of pet ownership. They saw Grover's photo, which was taken by our rescue photographer Teresa Berg, and knew that Grover was the dog for them. Grover's new family loves to take him for walks and car rides, and they "argue" over who gets to hold Grover next.
Pretzel was quickly adopted by a couple with several other dogs in their household. Pretzel immediately endeared himself to his adopters then quickly made friends with the rest of the "family". We know that Pretzel's new family will enjoy his antics -- but they'll need to get used to playing "Hide and Seek" with their shoes!
Lucky Bonita found a home (along with Rocky) with a lovely couple who have many years of pet ownership experience. Now Bonita has a home full of comfy dog beds, daily walks and lots of love and attention. Congratulations, Bonita!
Rocky had an extremely short stay in rescue - almost as soon as he was posted on Petfinder, he was adopted! Rocky (along with Bonita) now lives with a wonderful couple who have plenty of pet ownership experience. Rocky will be busy chasing the squirrels in his new back yard, and he has a number of comfy dog beds to choose from for his afternoon naps. Congratulations, Rocky!
Astro had a forever home lined up before he completed his heartworm treatment! His adoptive family came to visit Astro a few times while in rescue, and they were anxious for the day when they could finally take Astro home with them. Astro is still a little shy but with all the treats and loving he'll get from his new family he'll soon be thinking "There's no place like HOME."
Bud was adopted by experienced dachshund owners and has made friends with his new sister, Precious. Bud's new family lives within walking distance of Lake Lewisville and takes Bud for walks to the lake several times each day. Bud sleeps in "The Big Bed" and gets plenty of love and attention throughout the day. Congratulations, Bud!
Amalie was adopted by former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters and is keeping doxie siblings Snoopy and Halston (and the rest of the family, too) on their toes! Amalie is energetic and agile and attempts death-defying leaps that nearly bring her adopters' hearts to a stop! Her adopters tell us that Amalie's personality and intelligence mirror those of their beloved first dachshund. "There is no doubt about Amalie. She has picked us. She's our shadow."
Matilda was adopted by a couple with a pre-approved application on file on the same day we received several other requests for applications for her. We were thrilled that there was such an outpouring of support for Matilda and so many people wanting to adopt her. Female dachshunds, especially, are adopted quickly, and it helps to submit your adoption application in advance so it is in our files. That way, when you see a dachshund listed that you are interested in, there is no delay. We're so thrilled that Matilda can quickly resume her life and live out her years in comfort and safety, and will never be abandoned again.
Otto was adopted by a wonderful couple with the last name of Otto, so Otto is now Otto Otto! His owners had originally wanted to adopt a female dachshund, but after seeing Otto's Petfinder listing they knew it was a sign that Otto was meant for them. Otto is now an only dog and adores all the love and attention that is lavished upon him. He proudly takes walks around the neighborhood and already has his own fan club. There's a good chance that Otto will be doing some traveling with his new family and we know he'll enjoy that. We're so happy happy for you, Otto Otto.
Kirby went to his forever home, and joins sister Sadie (originally named Penny) who was adopted from us last June. Kirby and Sadie bonded immediately and take turns chasing each other through the house. Congratulations, Kirby!
Rosie, or more formally, Bella Rose, has made herself right at home. Her new Mom is a previous dachshund owner, and has a pomeranian for Bella Rose to play with. There are also several cats in the household, and we're told that Bella Rose fearlessly guards her Mom from the "pesky kitties" as she sleeps. Congratulations, Rosie; you're finally home!
"Prince" Harry has been adopted by a family with a long history of dachshund ownership. Harry now has a doxie sibling, Millie, to hang out with, and he also has a human brother and sister to play with. Harry seems to know that he's finally "HOME". We're told that Harry is so appreciative, well mannered, and full of affection for his new family. We're sure this "Prince" will soon be "King" of the household! Congratulations, "Prince" Harry!
Daisy was adopted at about the same time she completed her heartworm treatment. She's particularly fond of squirrels, which she desperately wants to chase (but she wasn't allowed to do so during her treatment). We know she'll be happy to be on the go and enjoy life to the fullest once again!
Ally was adopted in early February and is adjusting to her forever home quite well. She's learning to play with her doggie siblings, enjoyed meeting her owner's 4 year old grandson, and didn't make a fuss while she received a bath! Her owners tell us "All seems good so far. Thanks for bringing our girl home!"
Izzy was adopted on January 19 by experienced dog owners and now has a huge yard to explore and two doggie siblings to play with. Izzy is thrilled that she also gets to spend time snuggling in the "Big Bed" with Mom and Dad. Her new Mom is at home most of the day, so Izzy will have a full time job keeping tabs on everyone and everything. Congratulations, Izzy!
Ellis is our first adoption for 2008. He is the "first dog" for a wonderful family. They had wanted a dachshund for a while, and had carefully thought through and researched pet ownership. They were looking for a dachshund who was relatively calm, but still enjoyed walks and liked to play. They also were hoping for a dachshund that didn't look like "all the others". Ellis, with his charming personality and unique dappling, certainly fit their criteria!

2007 Adoptions

Casey Doodle was our final adoption in 2007, bringing our total to 36! Casey was adopted by a retired couple with children and grandchildren living close by. They immediately came over to welcome Casey to the family. Casey enjoys being an "only dog" again and already has lots of toys, beds, blankets, and pillows.... all just for her! After all the misfortune she had in 2007, we're thrilled that Casey finally has a fabulous, secure, and loving forever home.
Cinnamon (now renamed Harper) was adopted by a wonderful couple who were looking for a high energy dachshund. They got one with Cinnamon! We're told that Cinnamon has lit a fire under her doggie sibling, Hunter, who is trying to keep up with all the action! But when playtime is over, in typical dachshund style, Cinnamon and Hunter curl up together, on the couch, under a blanket.
Fritz (now renamed Flash) received a wonderful gift this Christmas - a forever home with the same family who'd adopted Jamie earlier this year! Fritz is now the public relations manager for his Mom, a professional photographer, in her home studio. His job is to welcome the clients and make sure they are comfortable. When he's not on duty, Fritz and Jamie have lots of fun entertaining each other. Congratulations, Fritz, on finding your fabulous forever home!
Angel has a wonderful new family and a senior sibling dachshund, Gypsy, to hang out with. We're told that after a few days of Gypsy getting used to this new "whippersnapper", Gypsy and Angel are now good friends. We're certain that Angel will reign supreme in her forever home, and will receive plenty of love and attention from her new family.
Coco was immediately welcomed into his new forever home by doggie sibling Peanut. We're told that Peanut loves to lay next to Coco, and that Coco is adjusting well to his new surroundings. We're sure Coco will thrive with all the individual attention he'll be getting in his new home - quite a change from being one of 14 dachshunds in his original home.
It was with much joy that Parker went to his new forever home. You might recall that Parker, a stray, had heartworms and had to undergo the lengthy treatment for that. Heartworm treatment is sometimes very hard on a small dog's body, and poor Parker had severe reactions not once but twice, requiring emergency trips to the vet to be stabilized. But Parker was determined to get through it and have a better life - and we're thrilled that now he's found his forever home. Parker has a doggie sibling to play with, and we're told that he enjoys chewing up shoes. But after all Parker has been through, we think he'll be forgiven!
Cindy Lou was adopted by a wonderful couple and has several doggie siblings (including three other dachshunds) to hang out with. Since Cindy came from a "large family" she felt right at home from the moment she walked through the door, and promptly settled down on the couch. Her new owners have taken everything into consideration to make life easy for all their dogs - they even designed and built a specialized ramp to allow the dogs easy access to the bed. We have no doubt Cindy will make use of that ramp, and we know she'll enjoy all the love and attention she's receiving in her new home.
Victoria, our black beauty, had a short stay here in rescue. She nas a new name, Sadie, to go along with her new life in her forever home. Sadie's adopters tell us she is playful and very affectionate, and they are thrilled to have her as part of the family.
We certainly hope that Carson's adopters love chocolate, because with Carson's dappling they will have plenty of light AND dark chocolate to enjoy every day! We're told that sweet boy Carson is settling in beautifully with his new family, soaking up the love and attention. Carson's adopters originally had wanted a black and tan dachshund, but as soon as they met Carson, his personality stole their hearts and they knew he was "the one" for them. Thanks, Petfinder, for helping Carson make his way from a Wal-Mart parking lot to a fabulous forever home!
Puppy Fiona quickly found her forever home with previous DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters. Fiona, will spend her days playing with Mango, now renamed Baxter, who was adopted in April. Fiona is a tiny little treasure - smart, well behaved, and very endearing. We know she'll have a wonderful life in her new home.
Red, the amazing ball playing dachshund, now has a wonderful forever home and plenty of balls! Red's new owners were specifically looking for a dachshund who enjoyed playing ball, so Red was the perfect dog for them. In addition to endless fetching, Red also enjoys daily long walks, and now has a dachshund brother, JJ, to hang out with.
Tess has been adopted after a very short stay in rescue. She will go to her new home on September 22 after she gets the sutures from her spay and hernia repair removed. Tess will join a household with a single owner and his Yorkie. They were looking for a companion, and Tess fit right in. Tess' new owner spotted her on Petfinder the day after she was posted, and thought he'd better send in his application quickly as she would not be in our rescue program very long. He was right, and we are very glad he applied to adopt this wonderful girl.
Heinz quickly found a forever home, and now has another dog, Roxy, to roll and tumble with. His family has renamed him Sammy and they report that he has adjusted very quickly. He made himself at home by jumping on the couch for a little nap. The neighbors even came over to meet this wonderful little boy and welcome him to the neighborhood.
Shelby went to her forever home in mid-August and now has two doggie siblings to play with. We hear that she has settled in beautifully. The couple who adopted Shelby met her at our recent Yappy Hour at WUF Pet Resort. We thank them for joining us at our event, but mostly we thank them for giving Shelby a safe and loving home.
Camay and Caress (nicknamed "The Soap Sisters") spent very little time with us in rescue. A wonderful couple with an approved application with us were waiting for a longhair dachshund. Even though the couple had not intended to adopt two dachshunds, they realized the special bond these two dogs had and offered them both a loving home. The girls immediately showed their new family that they knew how to use the doggie door and the two step doggie stairs to get to the couch! They have been renamed Kami and Kelli - new names for their new home. We are thrilled that these wonderfully deserving dogs will have the security of a loving home together, for the rest of their lives.
Sarge has been adopted by a former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopter who is retired from the military. As soon as Sarge got home he met his new dachshund sister, Lily, and they formed an immediate friendship. Sarge and Lily enjoy weekend outings to the dog park, play well together, then curl up together under a blanket for a nap.
Early in August, Phoebe went to her "forever home" with a former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopter. He was drawn to Phoebe's story and touched as he read about her history of abuse and neglect. When he picked up Phoebe he was absolutely thrilled to be taking her to her "forever home" - a place where she will be safe, where she will be loved, and where she will never again experience the pain and suffering that is now finally behind her. Congratulations, Phoebe - you deserve the best and now you have it!
As you may recall, Gabriel came to us dangerously overweight. After a month-long diet and exercise program, we're thrilled to report that a slim and trim Gabe went to his forever home at the end of July. He's promised to continue watching his weight, and has a doggie sibling "exercise buddy" to work out with. Gabe's new family knows how important it is to maintain proper weight, and we have no doubt that they will find plenty of ways to spoil Gabe without overloading him on "treats". Congratulations, Gabe, on your weight loss, and on finding a fabulous "forever home"! (You can read about Gabe's weight loss program here.)
Scrappy Doo went to his forever home July 9, moved right in and made himself at home. His new family has renamed him Jack, and he has a dachshund sibling, Hank, to play with. They spend the days playing until they've worn each other out, then they get to sleep in the "big bed" every night. Sounds like a pretty good life to us!!!
Flynn went to his forever home the first week of July - to the same couple who recently adopted Moe! They also have another dachshund, George, who will very much enjoy the company of not one, but two other dachshunds! When Flynn was delivered to the couple, there were "It's a Boy" and "Welcome to Paradise" signs out front, and streamers and balloons welcoming both Flynn and Moe to the family. The couple's daughter lives nearby and comes for daily visits. It's possible Flynn and Moe will hit a new high on the "spoiled-dachshund-ometer"!
Late in June, Cassie went to her "forever home" with previous DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters. They were attracted to Cassie because they wanted a dachshund resembling their first DFW Dachshund Rescue dog, a dapple longhair female (who sadly passed away after living a long and wonderful life with them). They are enjoying Cassie's energy and spirit! Cassie now has two dachshund siblings, age 13 and 17, who are both in wonderful shape. Cassie's adopters are true dachshund fans, proudly displaying a huge collection of dachshund art and collectibles throughout their home!
Pretty Penny went to her forever home June 22. She follows her new Mom everywhere in the house and even gets to sleep in the BIG bed! We're thrilled that Penny will be showered with plenty of love and attention in her new home.
Three cheers for Mountain Goat Moe! Moe went to his forever home June 18, immediately spotted a soft blanket, and snuggled right in. In addition to the tons of love and attention he's already receiving from his new family, Moe's got another dachshund sibling to hang out with, and extended family to come visit him every day.
Perry, April adoption number six, now has a forever home with an experienced dachshund owner. After several years without a dog, Perry's adopter decided it was time for another dachshund. We're told that Perry is enjoying having ALL the attention, and never leaves his new owner's side.
Jamie, our fifth April adoption, now lives the pampered life of a photographer's model! Jamie's new "mother" is a professional photographer, and she's already reported that Jamie invites himself in to her photo shoots, positioning himself in front of her intended subjects. Sounds like Jamie has made himself quite at home.
Dodger was adopted this April by an individual who was seeking a companion for his 10 year old black and tan dachshund. Dodger's new owner is an experienced dachshund person and this is a great match for this wonderful dog.
Jazz went to his new home in April, with a couple who had adopted Boomer from our group a few months ago. Jazz is a fun, fun little guy and we are so glad that he has a great new life now, with loving human parents and a dachshund brother!
Sophie was adopted in April by a wonderful couple who both teach high school. She'll have a great life with her new family, and we are so glad to know that she will never suffer again, helpless on the street, in the cold (or heat). We had a number of excellent applications for this sweet girl; it made us wish we had more "Sophies" who needed homes. We thank everyone who showed interest in this dog, and who applied to adopt her!
In early April, a new home was selected for Mango, with a couple who have had dachshunds for over 30 years. Mango will have two dachshund siblings and lots of love and attention from experienced dog owners. He will go permanently to his new home on July 6th after he completes his remaining shots, neutering and microchipping, but will have regular visits between then and now so that he can get to know his new family.
Bingo was adopted in February by a woman and her young daughter. Bingo has two dachshund siblings - one of which also loves to play with tennis balls! Bingo loves being the center of attention at family gatherings, and is "a cuddler, a player, and a little kissie ball of fun."
Puppy Toby was adopted in February by seasoned DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters. He joins the couple's three other adopted dachshunds and keeps the whole household on its toes. Toby is enrolled in agility classes and will eventually compete with two of his dachshie siblings.
Boomer was our fourth January adoption! This cutie pie certainly had a short stay with us at DFW Dachshund Rescue and has now settled in with his new family. Sounds like Boomer will have quite an active life - he'll spend the weekdays in the city, and the weekends exploring around his family's lake house. We're so glad that Boomer will have the best of both worlds, and a loving family to enjoy life with him!
Lucky was adopted in January and now has twin teenage boys and another dachshund to play with. Even though Lucky had been with our program for several months, we remained patient until we could locate the perfect "forever home" for this active little guy. It appears that it was worth the wait. We're so glad that Lucky finally has a home where he will have plenty of activity to keep him occupied.
Sherman was adopted in January by an experienced dachshund owner who had previously adopted from DFW Dachshund Rescue. Sherman's new owner is devoted to providing outstanding care for his dogs, and Sherman loves having two dachsie companions. Sherman has settled right in, and he and his new owner enjoy stretching out on the couch to watch football!
The first dachshund to be adopted in 2007 was Jackson. After several months with his foster family, "Action" Jackson finally has a forever home to call his own. He had been with our rescue program for 5 months; despite the fact of being just a darling little dog. Former adopters from our program had a much loved dachshund pass away in the fall, and were ready to adopt again. Jackson was a great match for them, and their husky is thrilled that he will have a dachshund playmate once again! We are so happy that Jackson can start the new year in a new, loving home - one where he will never again be forced to live in the garage as he was with his original owners. Another happy ending--or should we say "a happy new beginning!"

We are proud to announce the December 2006 adoptions of Schroeder, Pepper, Lucy, and Didi! We are so pleased that these four dachshunds received forever homes for Christmas!

We also had two November 2006 adoptions - happy-go-lucky Byron found a loving forever home, and after months of treatment and rehabilitation, Russell finally was adopted by an individual with extended family living nearby. It warms our hearts to know that Russell now has not one, but two, families to love and watch over him.

Thank you, Petfinder, for your invaluable service, helping us to place so many rescued dachshunds in loving forever homes this holiday season!
