GeneralOberst Heinz Wilhelm Guderian
Heinz (formerly Jackson) is a handsome red longhaired male dachshund with a black overlay on his coat.
He was surrendered by a family who claimed he was impossible to housetrain. Because of this, Heinz had been relegated to living a miserable life - ignored on the end of a chain in the garage.
He had been given minimal vet care, and was fed the cheapest dog food available. His coat was dry and brittle, it was very short, and he appeared to suffer from food allergies.
After his surrender to DFW Dachshund Rescue, Heinz was neutered. After that, he never soiled in the house again. Heinz was fed a top quality diet and his food allergies went away. His coat started growing in soft and shiny, and his hair got longer - A LOT longer!
Heinz enjoyed living as part of a family and adapted beautifully. He loved attention, had fun playing with his foster siblings, and looked forward to evenings on the couch watching TV with the rest of the family.
Heinz was adopted by former DFW Dachshund Rescue adopters. His first night in his forever home happened to be his birthday, and he celebrated by snatching a mouthful of saurkraut off Dad's plate. "He loved it!"
Heinz recently took time out of his busy dachshund schedule to dictate a letter to DFW Dachshund Rescue:
"Thank you for getting me out of that very lonely existence that I experienced with my prior owners. Thank you for taking such good care of me.
I received more love and attention in the 5 months I was with you than in the 5 years prior. My adoptive parents are giving me all kinds of love and attention, too. Life is good.
"My new parents are really great. I have two others dogs to play with. I like to wrestle with Pandora, a Siberian Husky. Wraith, a Sheltie, doesn't like to wrestle but he and I have fun barking together. There is also a cockatiel, but she just flies around making noise.
"Thank you for teaching me that I was a good dog and how to be a better dog! My new parents take very good care of me and we love each other very much. They even gave me a really cool new name!! I'm beginning to believe that I'm not the loser dog that my first owners made me feel like."
"P.S. Tell my Dad to stop calling me the 'Sausage of Terror'!!! And thank you for all you and your fellow rescuers are doing for my cousins!"
