Harley

Harley is a 5 year old, 12 pound male red longhair dachshund. Harley was adopted in August 2006 by his DFW Dachshund Rescue foster family, when they realized that they couldn't possibly part with such a sweet and loving dog.

Harley has two rescue dachshund siblings, Fidget and Zephyr. At first, Harley was depressed, and very timid and shy. His coat was all fuzzy and matted after years of neglect. He had a urinary tract infection that had gone untreated for quite some time. Once he was treated for his infection, received a thorough grooming, and was fed a healthy diet, Harley blossomed. Now Harley is happy and proud, more confident, and his coat is beautiful.

Harley's adopters still continue to foster for DFW Dachshund Rescue, and Harley enjoys playing with the various foster dogs during their stays. They wrestle and jump and tumble, running laps in the house, using the hallway and stairway as race courses. It's wonderful to see Harley happy and healthy and confident in himself.

Harley is very much a love-sponge and will soak up as much love and attention as he can. He particularly likes to climb up on the back of the sofa, resting his head on a shoulder while his family watches TV.

Harley was a Good Will Ambassador for the DFW Dachshund Rescue last summer when he visited local businesses requesting their support for the DFW Dachshund Rescue Adopter's Picnic. He also participated in Addison's annual Octoberfest Dachshund Parade. After the parade, children surrounded Harley and lavished him with love and attention! A few weeks later, Harley and his dachshund siblings took part in the Greater Collin County Kennel Club Rescue Parade, to demonstrate that rescued dachshunds are no different from the "show dogs" - they are all loving and beautiful!
