Bravo

Bravo is a 6 year old black and tan smooth standard dachshund with an absolutely delightful and charming personality! Bravo was adopted in March, 2006. His forever family wrote to us and brought us up-to-date on Bravo's first year with them.

"Just wanted to thank you once again for our sweet boy Bravo. It was a year ago, Sunday, March 11, 2006 that he joined our family. He is a wonderful family member. He loves anybody who comes to the house. He and my two year old are very close. Being the 'soft touch' pet owner that I am, I let him give up his crate and sleep with me.

"He might be a bit spoiled but he is very well loved. He is definitely a mama's boy; if I am home he is at my feet. I trip over him all the time! He never lets me out of his sight, and if I am sitting down - he is sitting right next to me.

"We would like to make a donation to the rescue in his name to help another sweet dachshie like our boy find a new, wonderful home. Thank you for all you do - Bravo has made our family complete!"

Bravo was a very special rescue, and truly resilient, considering he was surrendered by owners who both neglected and abused him for the entire time they had him. Bravo was chained outside 24/7 with no shelter and often limited or no food or water. The area animal control office repeatedly issued citations and fined the family, but did not or could not remove the dog. Poor Bravo was covered in ticks, and was regularly kicked and beaten by the husband of the family.

We were contacted about Bravo by a woman from a greyhound rescue group. She had been deeply concerned about this dog for several years. Finally the greyhound rescue representative convinced the family to sign Bravo over to her, and she brought him to us.

Despite his horrible treatment, Bravo was handsome and affectionate. He was successfully treated for Rocky Mountain spotted fever, due to the massive tick exposure. He was then immunized and neutered. Bravo was given a loving foster home where he soaked up love and attention like there was no tomorrow. After several months, the right family applied to adopt Bravo and we were thrilled with the loving, responsible home they had to offer.

Bravo has a dachshund brother, Oscar, in his new home and he is thoroughly enjoying his new, happy life! We are so glad that DFW Dachshund Rescue could be there when this dog needed us.
