Pet Loss HotlinesGrief and depression are just as real over the loss of a pet as they are over the loss of a person. A number of programs and hotlines are available to help grieving owners cope with the loss of a pet.Locally, The SPCA of Texas offers an innovative and dynamic program designed to help those who are grieving the loss of a beloved companion animal. The SPCA's Pet Grief Counseling program offers comfort, guidance and support as well as tools that can help facilitate grief recovery. Telephone counseling is available by calling 214-461-5131. All calls are returned within 24 hours. The Pet Grief Counseling Support group meets the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the SPCA headquarters located at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas. In addition, several veterinary colleges offer pet loss support hotlines for grieving pet owners. These hotlines are staffed by trained veterinary students who volunteer their time to help those devastated by the loss of a pet. Hours may vary during school breaks and holidays. There are also resources available on the internet (do a search on "pet loss"). If you are grieving the loss of a beloved pet, our sympathies are with you.
