Southern Belle Shelby Searches for a Home

Meet Shelby, our slim, trim, sophisticated Southern Belle. Shelby is a beautiful 5 year old female black and tan dachshund, with just a touch of silver dappling. She's friendly, outgoing, curious and active. She gets along well with people and with other dogs. Shelby has a strong "prey" drive so she would not do well in a house with cats, birds, or other small animals. Shelby is looking for a home where she will be loved and adored for the rest of her life.

Shelby charms everyone she meets. The entire staff at the veterinarian's office doted on Shelby while she was there for her check-up. She quite enjoyed being the center of attention.

Shelby likes to go on walks and enjoys playing with toys. She would enjoy having a playmate, but she would also be content being an only dog in a household where she could be "Queen".

Shelby loves attention and enjoys being spoiled. She was surrendered (along with her daughter, Cassie) by a family who failed to give her the time and attention she required. As a result, she tried to escape a number of times. Shelby still has "escape artist" tendencies and requires close supervision while in the yard. She would not do well unsupervised outside, as she can easily locate the weak point in a fence and escape quickly. Her access to doors must be restricted so as to minimize the possibility of her bolting outside. She is quite opportunistic and can quickly dart out an open door when you least expect it. Once Shelby is loose outside, she runs fast and far, which is dangerous both for herself and for those who must chase and retrieve her. Shelby would do best in a household that has strategically placed baby/doggie gates restricting her access to doors, and/or a minimal number of people coming and going.

Shelby is fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She is looking for a wonderful forever home where she can reign supreme (and possibly sleep in the BIG bed)! Is yours the one?
