Meet Scrappy Doo
Scrappy Doo is a 6 and 1/2 month old smooth male dachshund puppy who is a very friendly, curious, affectionate, high energy little fellow. He has two speeds: "Asleep" and "Full Speed Ahead"! Scrappy is absolutely adorable with ears that stick out to the side (picture Sally Field in "The Flying Nun") and a tail that makes a couple of small zig-zags. Don't worry, despite the kinks, Scrappy's tail wags JUST FINE! He's a bundle of energy and will bound over to you, jump in your lap without warning, wrap his front paws around your neck and lick your face. Sometimes Scrappy gets a little overly zealous and his kisses turn into little nibbles, which his foster family tries to discourage.
Scrappy was a wonderful Dachshund Good Will Ambassador at the recent Dog Days of Summer in Denton and Dog Day Afternoon in Plano. He was decked out in a bandana and doo-rag and charmed everyone he met. Scrappy gets along with his foster sibling dachshunds. He also entertains himself well by playing with toys and chewing on cow hooves. He loves the Bobo stuffed toys -- fortunately dogs are color-blind so Scrappy's not aware that his favorite Bobo is *PINK*! (Don't tell him, please!!) He's a good watchdog, alerting the family to strange sounds and people approaching, but he doesn't bark unless there's something to bark at. Scrappy likes to explore his foster family's back yard and is quite interested in their koi pond. He frequently stands at the edge of the pond to watch the fish swimming.
In the evenings, Scrappy likes to relax on the couch and watch TV with his foster family. Scrappy sleeps through the night in his crate with no fuss. He's a good eater, and is learning to "sit" for treats.
Scrappy was abandoned at the vet's office by his original owner, who purchased him as a tiny puppy for her 4 year old daughter. She told the vet "I can't handle a puppy, a 4 year old and a baby". Unfortunately, like many people, she failed to think ahead to the long term responsibilities of pet ownership and when the care of the dog required effort, she got rid of him. Thankfully, a wonderful vet tech at the clinic took Scrappy Doo in to her home, and made sure he got all his shots, and other needed vet care including neutering. Then she contacted us for help. We were glad to take this darling little dog, and so appreciate the vet tech's outstanding care for him.
