Featured Angel: Cherry

My name is Cherry and this is my story. I can’t remember where I was born, but I remember my mom took good care of my sisters and I. She always fed us and she loved us so much. But one day, she didn’t come back. One by one, my sisters all left until I was alone. I had to venture out on my own. The ally was so scary, but I found a nice lady who was putting some trash out. I could smell food and I was so hungry. She brought me food every night and I would wait for her at that back door. It was so cold out, but the man who lived there said I couldn’t come inside. I would curl up by the light in the yard to keep warm until it went out. I don’t know how it happened, but my belly started to grow. I know there are babies in there and I need to take care of them like my mom took care of us. As long as the kind lady who keeps bringing me food comes every night, everything will be ok. It was a nice warm day when I saw the kind lady the last time. She was saying goodbye. She said they were moving somewhere, but the man said I couldn’t come with them. Her face was salty and wet when she held me up to kiss me goodbye. I don’t understand.

The next day, a new family moved into the house. I am so excited, I can’t wait to meet the new lady. I hope she will be as nice as the first lady and bring me the tasty food. My babies are so hungry. Oh! Here comes someone! The door opened. Oh no! This big dog is running right to me and he looks very scary! I don’t know why the man at the door is laughing! I had better run, but my babies make my belly so full, I can’t go fast. It hurts so much. The mean dog bit down on my head. I can’t see, but I have to get away, I’ve got to save my babies! I must keep running.

I’m not sure how I got here, but I woke up in this new place. At least I can feel all my babies are ok. The pain in my eye seems to be less. A nice man just opened my cage and put some food down. I think I’m going to be ok. He stops and writes a note on the card outside my cage. He puts a big red “E” on it. I hope that means something good. Its getting late now and I can feel the babies want to come out. But, I can’t. This isn’t a safe place. I can hear dogs barking just a few feet away. What if they are mean like that other dog? I know I should let them come out, but it isn’t safe! I heard the man who brought me the food talking to someone. He said they would “have to put me to sleep after the weekend”. I am tired. Maybe I should go to sleep.

But, now the man put me in a carrier and said I’m going home to Little Orphan Angels. I don’t know what that means, but I’m so scared for my babies. They have been wanting to come out for days now, but I can’t let them. The nice people brought me to a home. It is so much more quiet here. I think this is a good place to let my babies come out. I will push and try. Something must be wrong. It has been so long and my babies won’t come out. I’m trying so hard, but I’m getting so tired. The people here look so worried about me. The lady and the man said they need to take me to the hospital. She looks so scared. At the hospital, I hear them saying I need to have a C-Section. I don’t know what that means, but the man seems worried because it is so expensive. They kissed me good bye. They’re faces are wet and salty too. The nurse lady took me to the back and said it would be ok. She gave me some kind of medicine and I’m getting so sleepy. I try to tell her to please take care of my babies. …

I opened my eyes. My belly isn’t full anymore. My babies are gone! Where are they??! Oh! I hear some crying and meowing. There they are! Oh, my babies!! But, one isn’t moving. What happened? I fell back to sleep. Our Sweet Cherry Has Been Through So Much! Can you give her a FOREVER home???
