9/6/2007 UPDATE: Blue had a scare about a month ago when we detected that he had an advanced infection in his two front legs.  After another surgery to remove all of the pins in his legs, we determined he had two separate type of infections and began 3 different type of antibiotics to take care of that.  It appears that he is fighting the infection and it is under control.  He is a great, wonderful dog!

Hi!  My name is Blue, and this is the story about how Rally to Rescue saved my life.  I really didn't know my name before the wonderful people at the clinic started calling me that.  I guess its because I'm a Blue Heeler.  Hopefully, I'm a blue healer because I've got a lot of that to do!  Here is my story.

I don't really know everything that happened.  It was all too fast and too painful.  I was running around next to a highway in Decatur with a buddy of mine when someone stopped to try to help us.  I didn't understand that she was trying to help us and when my buddy went to her, I got very nervous and started running around.  I guess I ran into the highway where a big truck ran right over me.  They tell me he didn't even stop or slow down, just kept on going.  I would have died right there if the kind lady didn't immediately take care of me.  The pain in my front legs was just too much.  I couldn't walk around, I couldn't run away ... I, I didn't understand what had happened.  I couldn't even bark because my mouth hurt so much.  Pain was everywhere.  Once I got to the hospital they told the nice lady that I had two broken legs and some broken teeth.  They took some pictures of me with a really fancy camera.

I saw her break down and cry but I didn't understand why.  I guess it cost a lot of money to help me and she couldn't afford that.  They started talking to her about maybe it would be best to "let me go".  The nice lady just said no, she would find a way.

She called and called a lot of people and everyone said they couldn't help and maybe it would be best to "let me go to sleep".  Then my new lady friend remembered something she saw at a PetsMart store about the Rally to Rescue from Purina ProPlan.    I don't know what that is, but she went to their website (http://www.rallytorescue.org) and from there, she found a group near us called Little Orphan Angels.  They agreed to help me!  The nice lady took me to their clinic the next day and cried again when she had to say goodbye.  She promised to check on me many times and I hear that she calls to check on me every day.  I'm nervous, but, they tell me that I'm going to have an operation soon that will help me.

[5/22/07]  Wow!  I woke up today from a really long, long nap.  I still hurt a lot, but it feels different.  I can stand on my legs again and I'm a little woozy.  I think they're putting something in that peanut butter, but I don't care, it helps to make the pain go away.  I got to go outside today for the first time.  I'm pretty nervous right now with everything that has happened.  Its still kinda hard to eat.  They told me that I have 4 broken teeth since the truck slammed into my head as well.  I'm supposed to have another surgery in a week or so and then my mouth will feel better.  I can't tell, but I think I'm a little lighter "down there" too.

I guess they took some more of those fancy pictures of me, because I see them on the wall next to my room.  They tell me that they had to put a lot of rods and pins in my legs, but they promised to remove some of those when my legs heal.  That's good because I hear that stuff can set off the metal detectors at the airport!

Well, that's about it for now.  I can't wait to get better and be able to run and play again.  I miss that nice lady who saved my life.  I can't wait to see her again.  I've got a bunch of kisses for her!  They tell me that when I'm all better, I can be adopted!  I think that means that you get to have a family of your own who loves you and will never let bad things happen to you.

Oh, I forgot to mention.  The nice people at Little Orphan Angels can really use your help to pay for my surgeries.  They said my medical bills will be over $3000!  I really don't know how much money that is, but they told me its like 100 big bags of the really good food I get to eat now, Purina ProPlan Dog Food.  That I can understand!!  I hope you can help them so that they can take care of other dogs and cats like me!  They said you can either mail a check to them, or use their on-line donations.  I'll put a couple of buttons down here for you.  Please, please can you help???  If my paws felt better, I would try to press one of the buttons for you.  Please!
