Our Mission

The goals of Dogs 2nd Chance:

Rescue abandoned and stray dogs
Attempt to reunite lost dogs with their families
Provide safe haven in loving, temporary foster homes
Provide any necessary medical care
Reduce euthanasia rates - get adoptable pets out of animal shelters ALIVE
Provide public education about the problem of animal overpopulation
Decrease pet overpopulation through Spay/Neuter programs. Please see the Animal Protection Association in Memphis for low cost spay or neuter.
Promote the principles of responsible pet ownership, including the spaying & neutering of all companion animals, the necessity of year-round heartworm preventative and regular veterinary care.
Find new loving forever homes for each adoptable animal

Who We Are

Dogs 2nd Chance is a non profit dog foster group founded in the fall of 2007. We are not a shelter. We are a group of VOLUNTEERS that saw the need to help medium and large dogs find new permanent homes.

The majority of our dogs were abandoned, dumped or stray. Mostly all they needed lots love, attention and a little medical care. We also save dogs from the urgent lists of "kill" shelters as space allows.

We are a VERY SMALL group trying to save one dog at a time. Volunteers and temporary foster homes are welcomed.

Funding is our biggest challenge. We receive NO federal, state or municipal funding. Our biggest expense is veterinary services. In addition to spay and neuter, several of our dogs are going through or have been through expensive heartworm treatment. This is a hardship for us as well as the dogs since we rely solely on donations. Whatever else is necessary comes out of our own pockets.

So many wonderful dogs are abandoned and dumped in shelters, we had to DO SOMETHING!

If we all do that, we can work miracles!

Dogs are not wild animals and can not survive alone. They can starve, be shot by annoyed neighbors or be hit by a vehicle and left to die slowly. Please help us help them!

Our Policy Regarding Owner Surrender and Strays

We can help you re-home an animal if you can continue to care for them until adoption! We are filled beyond capacity and have made the difficult decision not to take in any more animals at the present time.

However, we'd be happy to help you re-home an animal in need if you are willing to continue caring for your pet (or a stray you've found) until a suitable new home can be found, please Email Us. We'd be happy to help. This is much more agreeable to us than seeing your beloved family member go to a shelter.

If the animal absolutely HAS to be placed right away, please refer to the larger rescues in the Mid South for help.

Our Adoptable Dogs

All our adoptable dogs are up to date on vaccinations, have been heartworm tested and have received any necessary medical treatment, including spay or neuter. They are also on heartworm and flea preventative.

Adopting Your New Family Member

Your new best friend is waiting for you and your family. The adoption process begins by completing our Adoption Questionnaire. If you'd like to meet the dogs, please come see us at one of our scheduled Adoption Events! And if there is a special dog you'd like to meet, please feel free to let us know and we'll make sure he or she is there to meet you!

Which Lucky Dog Goes Home Today?

Every single one of our adoptable dogs would LOVE finding his forever home with you! Please Email Us for more information on any of our available dogs, or if you would like to help foster or to volunteer. If we had more foster homes we would gladly help more dogs.

Local shelters stay full with dogs whose novelty of being "NEW" has worn off and puppies that are no longer cute. The majority of our dogs were DUMPED in the country to fend for themselves.

Volunteers And Donations Needed

HUGE hearts and EMPTY wallets....thats us! Unfortunately due to lack of funding and overcrowding, we can not accept any more dogs at this time. This truly upsets us to say No, especially, this time of the year when the weather is turning colder, but we simply can not continue to take in more dogs without help.

Every single one of our adoptable dogs would LOVE finding his forever home with you! Won't you please consider opening your heart and home to an animal in need? With each new adoption completed or temporary foster home we add to our network of volunteers, it represents another animal saved.
