The Hardeman County Humane Society is a private non-profit charitable
organization dedicated to:
Construction and operation of full-service shelter facilities for
the care of abused, abandoned, and neglected companion animals in Hardeman County,
Tennessee.
Once these facilities are built and operational, we will begin
taking in and adopting out companion animals to good forever homes.
To create lasting and comprehensive change in human behavior
toward animals through education regarding humane & respectful treatment of
all animals. Educational programs are provided to schools regarding
the proper care of pets.
Provide public education about the problem
of animal overpopulation.
Promote the principles of responsible pet ownership,
including the spaying & neutering of all companion animals.
Provide low cost spay and neuter programs.
Encourage adopting from shelters and rescue organizations
as the preferred alternative to purchasing pets from backyard breeders,
pet stores or puppy mills.

decision not to take in animals until our shelter is operational, we
would be happy to help you re-home an animal in need by offering a

Meet Ruby
Ruby Star is a really lovely senior with a heart of gold. Her dam was a purebred German Shepherd, and her sire unknown. Because of her beautiful fluffy Golden Retriever like hair and coloring, we suspect her daddy may be a Golden Retriever. (Birth Date 7-8-02) True to her German Shepherd heritage, Ruby Star tends to attach herself to one person and has a tendency to be protective of that person. She is especially fond of females, so she would make a great companion and best friend for a single
lady. She is currently fostered with a man and is becoming attached to him as well.
Ruby Star has great house manners and gets along well with dogs of all sizes but is not suited for a home with cats. She is a bit hand shy so we recommend that she not go to a home with young children.
If you have some love to give....Ruby would love to return that love
ten times over. She needs a home where she'll be welcome indoors as part of the family, though a fenced yard is also required.

Our School Program
Hardeman County Humane Society's School program has been a huge success again this year. Currently in it's fourth year at Whiteville Elementary School and third year at Grand Junction Elementary School. Volunteers teach first grade students the five things to have a happy-healthy pet: clean food, clean water, shelter, medical and LOVE.
Our
program also discusses how to avoid getting bitten by an unknown animal and the importance or spay/neuter programs to curb the problem of pet overpopulation. We have been asked back every year and more schools have indicated they'd love to participate.

Low-Cost Spay/Neuter
Assistance
While we are busy raising funds for our
building fund, the primary goal of the Hardeman County Humane Society is to educate
the public & to promote spay and neuter of companion animals at an early age. This
routine procedure prevents the birth of unwanted litters, thus helping to reduce the
euthanasia of healthy animals.
We have on-going low cost spay/neuter
services available. Since we began this service, we have been able to provide
low-cost spay/neuter services to nearly 1100 pets in Hardeman County!

Our Future Shelter
The Hardeman County
Humane Society has been fortunate to obtain a long-term lease from the City of
Whiteville for a 5.72 acre shelter site in the Whiteville Business Park. Our
fund-raising drive will continue until we can begin construction of a
full-service shelter to ensure comfort & assistance to all pets in need in
Hardeman County.

How You Can Help
We
receive NO federal, state or municipal funding. We are a 501c3 not for profit funded
entirely through memberships, donations, bequests and grants.
The Hardeman County Humane Society is completely self-sufficient;
using no money from the local or state governments. It has several revenue producing
projects, including the Thrift Store, an annual Golf Tournament, as well as periodic
Car Washes and Bake Sales The primary sources of income are donations from
supportive, interested individuals and local businesses.
Annual Memberships available
are: $15 for Individuals and $25 per Couple and $250 for Life Membership. Corporate
memberships are also available. Applications for membership in the Hardeman
County Humane Society are available at the Thrift Store, or by mail, and include a
subscription to our Paw Prints Newsletter.
Our Thrift Store
As part of our fund-raising effort toward the establishment of our
shelter, we have purchased a 7,000 square foot commercial storefront in Whiteville and
are now operating a successful thrift store using donated merchandise. If you
are in the Whiteville, TN area, please stop by the Humane Society Thrift Store at 109
East Main St. We love to meet new friends.

Another major source of income includes our Recycling
Programs. Aluminum Cans, Cell Phones and Printer Cartridges are collected to
benefit The Hardeman County Humane Society at the newspaper offices of the Bulletin
Times at 410 West Market Street in downtown Bolivar. Please consider adding your
support! We need you and Hardeman County's animals need you.
