Adopt a Pet:

Since April 2006, Almost Home Canine Rescue has paid for 159 dogs and cats in the Madison area to be spayed and neutered to assist in controlling the unwanted pet overpopulation!  This is in addition to every dog and puppy adopted through our adoption program.

 Transport Help :

Almost Home is looking for transport help from Rapid City to the Sioux Falls area  and Sioux Falls to Omaha on a regular basis. Do you travel that route frequently? Does your job have you traveling to these areas and back? If so and you would like to help save dogs in urgent need of rescue, please contact us!

Almost Home Dog Rescue is dedicated finding the best possible home for all the pets in our care. We are dedicated to helping each adoptive family find the newest member of the family that will best meet the family's and the pet's needs and life style.
-------------------------------
Adoption fees vary depending on the care required to rehabilitate each individual pet, but usually range from $75.00-$200.00.

We do not have a shelter, thus no visiting hours. All dogs are in foster homes in the Madison area . We can tell you about each dog in detail, as they live with us as part of our family. We prefer email as a first contact, phone calls are accepted when an adoption has been approved. Please feel free to email us and ask questions about any of the dogs listed! application is required, in addition to an approved vet reference and personal references and a home visit.

The adoption process does take longer than a day or two in order to check references and arrange for a home visit. Some dogs and cats with special needs may have a more involved adoption process due to the pets needs and our dedication to finding the best home for each pet
Foster Homes are needed! We can help more animals if we have loving foster homes for them to stay with while a forever home is found. Rescue pays for all medical costs and dog food! Please contact Almost Home to find out more!

ALL animals adopted out by Almost Home are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Pediatric spaying and neutering is very safe and effective. When we sterilize all puppies and kittens before adoption, we completely ensure that not a single one of our rescue puppies or kittens adopted will ever reproduce.

Please Spay/Neuter Your Pet!

SHELTER FUNDRAISER

SHELTER

Dear friends,

We have been overwhelmed this year with requests to help animals in our area.  This summer has been like no other.  Puppy mills are dumping breeding dogs due to decreased puppy sales (which is wonderful!) but the poor parents of the puppies are being dumped or worse.  More strays are turning up needing a safe place to go.  Almost every dog we have taken in this year has needed extraordinary vet care and rehabilitation.  We have outgrown our foster care system and need a shelter in addition to our foster homes to continue our work.

We have been raising money for a shelter for about 2 years.  Sandy Christians and I have found a place outside of Madison, SD which is perfect for a shelter!  We desperately need to raise the rest of the money to purchase this acreage so we can save more dogs!  We will have room for 40-50 dogs with room to expand at a later date. Our focus will be a safe, comfortable home setting for the dogs until we can get them vetted and into foster homes or transported to another rescue we have networked with.  Sometimes we just need a place for dogs to go for a couple days until they can get transported to another rescue.  Other times we need a quarantine area for dogs who are ill.  And sometimes we have emergency calls where we need somewhere for an animal to go immediately.  A shelter will offer many more opportunities and options to rescue more animals.

We are doing a Fundable fundraiser to raise more funds.  Any donations, large and small, are so appreciated and will help us reach our goal!

Please help us help more animals; feel free to forward and crosspost!

Here is the fundable:

On behalf of all the animals, thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Jayne Solberg (Chairman), Julie Lavin, Sandy Christians, Sue Battista, Craig Welbon, Kay Kieso and JoAnn Casanova; Capital Fund Committee

Spay and neuter assistance is available. Please contact us for more information.

Do you need a place to recycle your old ink cartridges and cell phones? Almost Home Dog Rescue can turn in old cartridges for cash for the rescue! We collect old ink jet cartridges, laser cartridges and cell phones. Do you use cartridges at work? Home? Please donate them when they run dry! All proceeds will be spent on vet care and added to our Capital Fund for a new shelter in Madison.

Please email us if you have a cartridge to donate, or drop them off at Lake Vet Clinic or Radio Shack in Madison. Drop off sites in Sioux Falls are located at Scatter Joy and Your Pet Stop in Sioux Falls. http://www.scatterjoyscrapbooking.com/

Please help us recycle our way to a new shelter so we can save more animals!

Special Request For Help:
Almost Home is looking for transport help from Rapid City to the Sioux Falls area on a regular basis. Do you travel that route frequently? Does your job have you traveling to Rapid City to Sioux Falls and back? If so and you would like to help save dogs in urgent need of rescue, please contact us!

We also look for help with transporting dogs to the Omaha and Minneapolis areas occasionally.

Occasionally some of our rescues are un-adoptable and essentially become forever fosters. This puts an undue burden on some of our Foster Families., The dogs/cats usually require ongoing medication and vetting.

Please, consider donating to a fund to help offset these ongoing costs. Click on the picture above to make a paypal donation.

PLEASE DONATE YOUR ALUMINUM CANS

Drop off your cans at Lake Vet Clinic in Madison. A kennel is outside the clinic, just drop your bags inside the kennel.

News:

Fabulous News!
Almost Home Canine Rescue has been honored to receive a grant to spay and neuter cats and dogs in our community! This grant will benefit so many ANIMALS and also all that will not be born and need homes. This grant will not be used for our rescued dogs, and will be strictly used to spay and neuter pets belonging to private owners in the community who would otherwise not be altered.

If you know anyone who needs assistance with spay and neuter costs, please have them contact us for an application.

ECCO and Almost Home Canine Rescue have teamed up for the dogs! Three afternoons a week,ECCO picks up 2-3 dogs and take them for walks and play with them for socialization! Check out this link to read a story that the Madison Daily Leader did about this great program.

Attention Cat Lovers!

Orange Kitty

Concerned about the large number of homeless and feral cats in Madison, SD, Almost Home has started a TNR (trap, neuter, return) program for feral cats!  We received overwhelming support from our veterinarian, Anna Ouverson, and our local animal control officer to trap and alter feral cats. During the first week of our program, we altered, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for earmites/fleas 11 cats from a colony on the outskirts of town!  Our efforts will prevent the births of thousands of kittens which would otherwise die or live a life of misery and disease.  Mass euthanasia of cats is not working to control the cat overpopulation! TNR is not just the best alternative to controlling feral cat populations - it is the only one that works.

But we need your help!

We are funding this program largely through our aluminum can recycling program.  Each time our small kennel in front of the vet clinic is full of cans, we earn about $75 to alter cats!  So please save your aluminum cans and drop them off in the kennel in front of Lake Vet Clinic in Madison, SD.  Spread the word! We are also accepting donations to help fund this program. We are a 501c3 Non-Profit organization so your donation is 100% tax deductible. We have PO boxes in both Sioux Falls and Madison and also accept Paypal at kat_920_1999@hotmail.com .  We are also in need cat litter and Diamond Cat Food.

You can read more about TNR programs by clicking here: http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/whatistnr.htm

Thank you so much for all your support and well wishes!

PS: Just a tip; cat food cans are made of alumunium and can be recycled!
