Success Stories
One of the greatest joys at the shelter is when one of our animals are given a home of their own. Yes, many of us get attached to our guys & gals, but nothing makes us happier than to hear how wonderful things are going in their new lives. If you would like to share your successful adoption story, please send an send an email with your story & photo (if you have one) and we will post it here. So many peoples' lives are fulfilled because of the love and companionship of their adopted shelter animal.
"Four years ago I went to AFA to find the dog I have always wanted, and there Sadie was. She was around 3 years old when we adopted her. Sadie is a perfect fit in our household & everyone who meets her falls in love with her sweet disposition & loving personalitiy. I can't imagine my life without her & I owe it all to Action For Animals." Adopted by Teresa Fumea

"I adopted Lucy on Dec. 13th. Lucy was abandoned at a park, tied to a tree. Why or how anyone could do that I just don't understand. As you can see, Lucy is a beautiful, smart, lovable, gentle dog. She gets along great with our cat Bubbus and she just loves our 3 yr.old granddaughter. I am so happy that we got the opportunity to bring this wonderful dog home. She has enriched our lives so much. Thank you Action for Animals, your care and concern for all of the animals in your care is so apparent. And thank you Lucy!!!" Adopted by Nancy

"We came to AFA on Jan. 3, 2004 from Hagerstown, MD and adopted Buffy (she was worth the trip!). She has brought so much love and joy to us. She was chained to a tree for 5 years. She has now turned into a lap dog, sleeps in our bed and gives hugs & kisses all the time. We just wanted to share our joy with you and that this was one happy ending for one special lady. We should have a changed her name to Happy because she smiles all the time." Adopted by Greg & Peggy Keefer

"On July 27, 2003 (buddy day) we came home with Leroy and changed his name to Buddy. We are nuts about this dog. He has become our child, our best friend. Everyone who meets him comes away from the experience charmed by him. Thank you, AFA for keeping our dog until we got there to adopt him." Adopted by Pamela McKlveen

"We adopted Daffy from you in September of 03.' It's funny how things work out because he was not the one we were coming to see. To make a long story short we just fell in love with this senior boy. He has become such an important addition to our family. He is just the sweetest little guy ever. He pretty much goes everywhere with us-If we try and leave him behind he stands at the door looking out at us with those sad brown eyes! Needless to say we always give in! Thanks!" Adopted by The Sanders Family

"We adoped Brandy in March 2004 and she has become a wonderful addition to our family! She's growing like a weed! She is adjusting well to her new home and family. "Both of us have been so happy since we adopted Tippy on June 13, 2002. (Her given name was Carli, but we changed it) She is very energetic and happy and is very loyal to both of us! She has brought more joy to our household than we ever thought possible. Tippy loves to play fetch with all her toys and sticks outside. She has grown into a very happy and healthy dog and we look forward to having many wonderful years with her in our family. Thank you for having such a wonderful organization and for giving us our first dog! Adopted by Matt & Rachel Nelson

Here's a success story about one of our very special long-term, senior dogs that just got adopted: "3 wks have come & gone and Rebel is doing great. He has become very vocal & very spoiled. He loves his "cookies" (doggie biscuits) & rawhides. He initiates play when ever he's not trolling for back rubs & head pats. He absolutely loves getting brushed. He has us completely under his paw with those big eyes." Adopted by Andy Voytko

Here's a success story about a special needs animal that was recently adopted: "Annie is doing great and has become a good companion already. She loves walks, rides in the car and running around the fenced in yard and watching birds. She gets around the house, yard and neighborhood like she always lived here ... even, to my surprise, followed me easily down and up the basement steps (she's pretty amazing... she has just 3 legs). Thanks for having her for me." Adopted by Kathy Kelly

"I just wanted to write you an update on the kitty we adopted from you 2 months ago. Otto, whom we renamed Grissom, was a handsome Maine Coon mix in your cat room. He was the most affectionate cat there and has continued to be incredibly affectionate. He has adjusted to his new home very well. Enjoying the large windows, soft comfy bed, and being lavished with attention and spoiled rotten. He is an absolutely wonderful cat and I can't imagine why anyone would have ever given him up. I am glad they did though, and I am so thankful to your shelter for taking him in so that we could find him." Adopted by Amber Berkhamer and Robert Krzanowski

"We adopted Sandy in January 2003. We already had a dog, Holly, and a new baby, but we wanted another dog to keep Holly company. We visted Sandy and decided she was perfect! Sandy has been with us for over a year and now I can't imagine our family without her. She and Holly get along wonderfully and she just loves our baby and the baby loves her! Thank you so much for taking care of Sandy until we found her!" Adopted by The Fawcett Family

"I adopted Chrissy (now called Skyy) on June 12, 2004. My experience at Action For Animals was wonderful. I was unsure if I was ready for another pet since I had just lost my dog of 12 years; Skyy was sure that I was ready. She certainly enjoys living in Johnstown. Skyy has taken on many jobs around the house. Her main job is to patrol the pool searching for wayward wiffle balls, Frisbees, and basically anything that floats!! Her cat brother finally has someone frisky to play with. They enjoy teasing each other and running laps through the house. Skyy has added to my life as much as I have added to hers! I look forward to the many years that we will have together. Thank you!" Adopted by Lesley Miller
