BCHS volunteer program The Butler County Humane Society is a non-profit, no kill shelter dedicated to the care, treatment, and shelter of abandoned and abused animals in Butler County for over 100 years. A Board of Directors govern the BCHS. In becoming a volunteer, you become part of our mission, representing the BCHS to the general public. This is an important job, but what you will receive in return is so much more than you can imagine. When you see those wagging tails and shining bright eyes; when you see the smiles (yes they do smile) and hear the woofs and meows; you will know that you are so greatly appreciated for whatever you do to help these helpless creatures. Whether you work directly with the animals or work on other tasks, whatever you choose to do will have a tremendous impact on our shelter and the animals. Volunteering is an important job! Volunteer opportunities Dog companion Work one-on-one with the same dog to walk, socialize, and learn basic training commands. Cat companion Volunteers take a shelter cat out of the cage to provide exercise and grooming. Adoption outreach Volunteers take animals to designated locations and promote the adoptions of these pets. They also distribute information about the shelter, collect donations, promote membership, and interact with the public. Special events Volunteers attend special events, either on site or at various locations to promote the shelter and assist in collecting donations, handling shelter animals ready for adoption, and soliciting BCHS memberships. Foster families Volunteers take animals into their homes, providing care, love, and nurturing for shelter animals for a specified period of time. Fostering is needed especially for under aged kittens and puppies, under socialized animals, and those recovering from medical treatment. To download an application to be a foster family, please click here. Baked goods Volunteers bake cookies, brownies, and other refreshments, as well as dog treats for various fundraising events held throughout the year. Sewing and craftmaking Volunteers make items such as dog scarves, pillows, etc. to sell at the shelter and at various events.

Volunteer matching and matching gift program Does your company have a matching gift program? Would your company match your employees donations or even donate cash as a match for your employees volunteer hours? Many corporations have an employee matching gift or volunteer hour program. A matching gift is a great way to increase your support to the Butler County Humane Society. Just ask your employer if they match donations to non-profit organizations. If so, they will give you a form for us to complete and send back with the proof of your donation. Did you know that cash, membership, volunteer hours, or auction item purchases (above fair market value) can be turned into an additional donation to the Butler County Humane Society in just two easy steps? Its true—if you work for a company that has a matching gift program. When the BCHS receives contributions from individuals, the company the individual works for might match that donation, in most cases dollar for dollar. Several hundred companies participate in the Employer Matching Gift Program. You can also contact your local personnel office to see if your company participates in this program. If your company does not participate, you can ask your personnel office, your director, or company headquarters for more information on how to get a matching gift program started. This program helps to boost employee morale and helps build the corporate image. In addition, the company gets an opportunity to do something beneficial for animal welfare that can mean so much to the life of an abused, unwanted, neglected, or abandoned pet. You CAN make a difference!!! Other opportunities There are many areas in which volunteers can assist us at the Butler County Humane Society, but if you have other talents or skills that you can contribute, visit or call the shelter.
