Adopting

As our adoption process takes approximately 30 min to complete and the shelter closes at 4:00p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, adoptions are not processed after 3:30p.m. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, the shelter closes at 7:00p.m. therefore adoptions are not processed after 6:30p.m. We thank you in advance for understanding.

Adoption Rates

Please note that our adoption fees have changed. In an effort to maintain the level of care that we provide to the homeless unwanted animals in our shelter, we have modified our fees as listed below:

Adult dogs (over 6 months)=$100.00

Puppies (under 6 months)=$125.00

Adult cats (over 6 months)=$75.00

Kittens (under 6 months)=$100.00

The BCHS is struggling with the current changes in our economy while balancing our continued commitment to providing the best possible care to the animals we house and the services we provide to the community. The average daily cost of care for a healthy animal has seriously increased from our previous average of $12.00 per day per animal to over $15.00 per day. Our adoption rate changes will help us continue to provide the quality of shelter and care needed to give these animals a second chance. Your adoption fee will help more than just the animal you take home. We thank you in advance for your support.

Spay/Neuter deposit

Although many of our shelter animals are altered before adoption, there are occasions when an adopted animal may not be sterilized. The BCHS, as required by law, covers the cost of the spay/neuter surgery for any animal adopted from the shelter. An animal that has not been altered prior to adoption is issued a voucher to cover the cost of the surgery through one of our participating vets. To ensure that the adopter is in compliance with the spay/neuter laws, we have increased the spay/neuter deposit to $50.00. This deposit is required at the time of adoption. This deposit will be refunded to you after the sterilization is complete, providing it is done within the allotted time frame set by the organization.
