Ike, formerly Chuckie
Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to let you know I am feeling much better and hardly ever cough. I know all my basic commands and it turns out I am 100% housebroken. Every day I get long walks on a leash then a romp in my own five-acre fenced pasture where I am learning to play ball. The people here are very happy I came to live with them. They said I should tell you I am the most perfect dog in the world.
Thank you for taking such good care of me until my new mom came to adopt me. I will never forget your kindness.
Love,
Ike Eisenhower (formerly Chuckie).

Maggi, formerly Miss Pretty
I am writing this letter is reference to "Miss Pretty" - now known as "Maggi" to update you on her since she adopted us October 25, 2008. Maggi is so wonderful!! We absolutely love her! She loves the kids and loves to play and is really starting to show us her outgoing nature. She is still a bit timid at times and if there are a lot of people around but is getting much better! We have never had to crate her... she sleeps with us or one of the kids... and we really don't know what we did without her! She was spayed this week but doing great!
I'm attaching a picture of our daughter, Abbi, and Maggi on Halloween. Abbi was a sleepover girl and Maggi was, well who else, but UNDERDOG!!!
Thank you again for bringing her into our lives!

George(formerly Feather)
I believe it has been about four years ago that I adopted a kitten you had named of Feather, maybe you will remember him when you see this picture.
We renamed him George. I emailed you a picture of him shortly after we got him, he is the kitten at the very end of your Happy Endings page. I visited
your web site just last night and I thought I would see if he was still pictured. And there he was a the very end. Enclosed please find a picture of him as
he is now. The coffee table that he is laying on is 26" wide. As you can see he has grown into a very big kitty! He is a great cat and we love him dearly.
Thanks for letting me adopted such a great friend!

Lily Mae and Lucy Lou (formerly Lovebug)
Bob and I adopted a senior bulldog, Lillie Mae a few months ago and she is adapting wonderfully! We also have a golden retriever, Cooper that plays with her, yes she plays! She gets very excited, and is very lovable for her 9 years. We are so happy with her.
I also adopted Lovebug (I renamed her Lucy Lou) back in January, and whoever named her Lovebug was totally right! She is so sweet and gives me kisses on my nose. She gets along really well with our dogs.
I can't say enough good things about the staff at the Bradford County Humane Shelter. All were very helpful with our questions and helped make the transition easy.
Attached are some photos of both Lillie Mae and Lucy Lou! Enjoy!

Although we feel we are just beginning to embark on a reasonably great relationship (3 months into it) with some human folks - we thought we'd give a "happy endings" post. We've been taken hostage by a couple in Binghamton NY and spend our days keeping these folks on their toes. There are the hours of mandated petting, play (see photo attached) and nuggling. Much dialog is actually required, daily, to ensure adequeate food bowl attention (we like an elegant multi-bowl presentation and massive quantities). Not to mention getting adequate "box service"...well you know how eager humans can be about that....
We left the shelter together in March of this year. It is really nice to have a pal from the old country to share the experiences of adjusting to a bustling NY bunny and chipmonk viewing lifestyle . Our humans have renamed us, as we gather is a common thread in our adoptee experiences. They seem to pester us constantly by calling out to "Lupe" (formerly Zip Zap) and "Chica" (formerly Cuddlebug) - The "nombres" are in deference to us coming from "South of the Border". The female in the couple took español in la escuela ...what goobers they are. ...All in all though, we have to say things are pretty good (although we're pretty sure we could have done better with respect to getting top-notch humans, and we let our staff know this when necessary).
Anyway - we hope all our old pals are long gone and that the new kitties get homes QUICKLY!!!! Oh yeah - and that the loud barking dogs get homes quickly too - so that the kitties can get some much needed peace and quiet...:)

Hi! My mom took some better pictures of me and she thought that you might like to see them.
I had another vet appointment today. I got a booster shot and a blood test for heart worms so that I could be put on Interceptor. My mom also ordered me K9 Advantix. I have another vet appointment on July 15th to get fixed. I don't know what that means, but mom said that she has to drop me off early in the morning and pick me up the next day. I don't really like the sound of getting fixed and being away from home for a day, maybe I should tell her I'm not broken.
Einstein finally played with me the other day! We had so much fun running around in the indoor arena. There is a big pile of sand outside and I love running around that and digging holes in it.
After a lot of begging mom finally gave in and bought a slip cover for the couches so that I can sometimes sleep on them, and dad even let me sleep on the bed a couple of times!
I hope that my sister has found a good, loving home!

Shadow (formerly Zorro)
Hi Again! It's me Shadow... the one you guys called Zorro. Well, I thought I'd let ya know how I have been doing over the past year since I was adopted. Man has it been fun!
I have a boy that knows just what I like! He is 14 and over 6 feet tall so I don't even have to be gentle when we play. He gets right down on the floor with me and we have the best time ever. My girl is quite a bit smaller so I have to play more gentle with her, but we still have a great time! I love to play, play, play! I am really good at catching balls in mid air. I love to play fetch, tug-o-war, and games of chase. I have a kitty sister... you can see her in one of the pictures... We usually do not get this close; she is very shy of me. When I try to smell her she makes funny noises and spits on me. Sometimes she even smacks me. "How Rude!"
My dad took us all to the lake a lot this summer... I LOVE to go swimming!!! And, I am REALLY good at it!!! Now I know what those webbed feet are really for. You can see me with my dad at the lake... Don't tell him mommy put that picture on here... He says he looks bad, but I think we look great! There is also a picture of me coming out of the lake after a swim. I jumped off the dock once, but I am not so sure if I want to do that again...
I get lots of attention most of the time... sometimes when they get busy, I have to remind them. It's a piece of cake though... All I have to do is grab something they don't want me to have and the chase is on.... YEE HAH!!!
I also included my shelter photo so you would remember which one I am. That, of course, is the one where I still look like a puppy.
Thanks again for posting me on Petfinder!

Frick and Frack
Two young adult male Golden Retrievers, who were later named Frick and Frack recently came to our shelter together. Fortunately for them,
their happy ending story came faster than most. The next day after Frick and Frack's arrival, Jason and Tiffany stopped by and fell for these two
Golden boys. They were told these guys were not available yet. So, early the next week they returned to see these Retrievers had not been claimed.
Not wanting to separate these brothers, Jason and Tiffany adopted both of them. Frick and Frack are now Sam and Max. All of us at the shelter are
happy to see that their stay at our shelter was only temporary, as they received the best Christmas present they could get, a new loving family and great
home together.

Gypsy
In the fall of 2007, Mary Jane reported a stray she had found a spayed, black/ brown medium sized female dog. After posting her found dog alert no one claimed this mild mannered dog, so Mary Jane found a home for the stray dog she had reported. Shortly after the dog ran away from her new home, posters were distributed and reports of seeing the dog came in from Warren Center to LeRaysville. With each report Mary Jane traveled looking for this free-spirited dog.
For about 3 months Mary Jane went from reporting the dog found, finding a home for it, the reporting it missing again and tracking its whereabouts.
December 1st, I received a call from Mary Jane informing me that she had found her little canine gypsy again and this time she would be keeping her, naming her Gypsy Rose. This new relationship made Mary Jane a 1st time dog owner. A few hours later I was greeted by Mary Jane in the office who brought Gypsy Rose for me to see for myself. When I went to greet Miss Gypsy Rose she was a little apprehensive, possibly thinking her new friend was here to drop her off. Lucky for Gypsy, that wasn't the case. Mary Jane reassured her that she wasn't going anywhere but home.

Shadow (formerly Chunky)
We adopted "Chunky" (now Shadow) from you back on July 7. We are ecstatic; he is sooooo good, and smart, and fun. He has not given us ONE time to be upset with him..... .the only time I have ever had to "scold" him (while chuckling) is when he got into my purse, which was on the floor, and scattered the contents around the room, to show his displeasure that we went somewhere without taking him. He is all we could ever ask in a dog, except that he isn't vocal when he wants to go in or out --- he just sits and stares at us like he does when we are eating. He also sleeps ON our king-sized bed every night with us !!!

Damian
Hi Everyone,
Our extended return date on Damian was yesterday. On the second day he was with us we knew that we would be keeping Damian. We had some issues with Damian urinating in the house, but that was quickly resolved.
We decided to adopt when we realized that our puppy, Angel, just adored other dogs. Initially, she was fearful of Damian but he kept trying to assure her that he wanted to be her friend and now the dogs are inseparable. Both dogs are enjoying being beloved house pets and are also enjoying being dogs as they romp and play for hours in our large fenced-in area. We have a "doggie door" on the back porch so they can seek shelter when they choose. But, they are indoor dogs and since the cold weather has arrived they also enjoy stretching out in front of the hot wood stove.
Damian is a very bright dog who learns quickly and tries so hard to please. Someone has spent quality time with Damian because his understanding of vocabulary is extensive.
Yesterday, we took Damian to the vet for his check up. He was given a rabies vaccination and a vaccination for leptospirosis. In addition, we had his blood tested for heart worm. Damian will be maintained with heart worm preventative and Front Line monthly. He came through his exam with flying colors, even his ears were clean and free from parasites. His nails appear to be neatly trimmed. For an animal that has been kept for months at a facility that regularly transports stray animals into its kennel, he couldn't be in better physical and mental condition. Kudos to your staff at the shelter for a job well done. Please thank the gentlemen who generously paid for Damian's neuter and tell him that it was a factor in our selecting Damian. Damian is a stable, bright and affectionate pet and I wish to congratulate you on your foresight in keeping Damian long term.
We have a win-win situation here and I want to thank all affiliated with your fine organization – keep up the good work.

Hi. Here are some pictures of Konner. We adopted him back in March. He is doing very well. He became very attached to us right away. He really hates when one of us has to leave and gets very excited when we come home. He still hates his crate. We were told he was crated all the time before he came to the shelter so he really hated it. We have tried everything to make him calm down while in it but he is just sure that cate is a terrible place. Besides that he is very well behaved and loves his new home. He sleeps in bed with me and has to be under the covers with his head on a pillow. He is sure he is human. LOL Anyways thank you very much for Konner. I would really like to get another boxer sometime soon so he would have a brother or sister to play with!!
Thanks,

Dear BCHS,
We would like to share our adopted dog, Jack, with you.
He's doing very good, a great addition to the family. We've already taught him to sit, dance, shake and high-five! He had a couple of accidents but other than that, he was pretty good at becoming h ouse trained.
He has an appointment, Sept. 10th to be neutered and he has had all his shots. We have a pond that we take him to. It's so cute watching him run around and pounce on the seaweed! He goes crazy over his stuffed animal that I got for him. He's pretty happy and we spoil him but he deserves it. He's such a good dog, thank you for everything you've done for him.

Hello Bradford County,
I just wanted to let you know I've been with my new Mom and Dad for a little over one year now. I so love my new home. Mommy & Daddy even let me sleep with them. I am still full of mischief and like to get into things but they still love me. My brother and sister cats Buddy and Baby have finally gotten used to me. I love to play ball and play with my friend Gretchen too who is another dog in the house. We get along great.
I am happy and healthy in my home and love my Mom and Dad alot. They treat me so well and even fenced in the backyard so Gretchen and I can go out and run and have a place to play.
Mom & Dad have found out I am very afraid of thunderstorms. I shake and hide or follow them and don't let them out of my sight ever during a storm. I like to sit on my Dad's lap even though I'm a bigger dog and he even lets me.
I just wanted to catch up with you since I've been gone so long, I see you even still have my picture on the site where they got me last year I thought that was pretty neat and so did my Mom. You see she is writing this letter for me.
We just wanted to share a part of our lives with you again.

Just to update you on Shammy. She went to the vets a week ago and had severe ear infection, also has glucoma in her one eye and cateract in the other. She is getting treatment every day in her ears and they are clearing up nicely and she can hear some already. She can see some out the side of the cateract eye but the other is completely blind. She goes back to the vets on the 13th to check her ears and testing on her growth's to make sure they are not of any concern.Shammy is such a sweetheart and very smart.Of course our 2 cats have been hiding upstairs every since she has been here, but now they are getting brave enough to come downstairs a little. We Love Shammy so much and want to thank you for all you have done with helping us with our Nicky when we had to put her out of her pain and for letting us give Shammy her retirement home,She is very happy and makes us very happy. We have only heard her bark twice and both times there were people here which don't live here,so she has accepted us and going to do her best to protect us. We will probably stop in on the 13th after the vet's visit.
Thank You ,

Thank you for Bucky. It's so important to fix up a dog or cat with the family that wants that kind of pet. Almost like a dating service. God bless you all!

Dear Humane Society staff,
Just wanted to leave an update on Rowdy. He is simply amazing! It makes me laugh to see the changes in him. He has put on maybe 10 pounds. He walks every day. He will even walk by your side. We do not have a fence and yet we let him go and he stays right with us. Frisbies and stuffed animals are his favorite to catch and bring back. He is great with my other animals. I think it's the greatest thing we have ever done. He is in a very good, loving family and he knows it. Oh, HE HATES THUNDER. It never fails, he will have an accident if he is left home alone in a storm but it's well worth it. I hate them too and I would probably do the same thing if I had the chance. LOL.
Thank you so much for the opportunity, I couldn't ask for more.

Baby
Dear all,
Almost a year ago I adopted a calico cat named "Baby." I had wanted a cat for so long but I was afraid since I am in my early 80's, if something happened to me who would care for her? I knew I would be moving soon from Athens to closer to my son. He and his wife are cat lovers.
I wish I could tell you the joy that she brought to me! She is my bosom pal. She loves to have her picture taken. It has gotten to the point where she actually poses so my camera is never far away.
When I inquired about a calico, you told me she was 'laid back.' So she is!
Thank you.

Daisy May and Nugget (formerly Connor)
Hello.
I am writing this little story about our dog, Daisy May who we adopted from the animal shelter on October 6 2006. She did have a dog play mate when I first adopted her but Dummy (his name) got very old,, which would have been 20 years old and he was a wonderful dog. I got him at the Bradford County Humane Society 18 years ago. On March 30. 2007 we had to put him to sleep. He was the best dog I could have asked for. I knew he was getting up in age so we decided to get another dog which is Daisy May. I work at the Bradford County Humane Society so, when I met Daisy, I decided to take her home with us.
According to Daisy:
When my mom had to put Dummy to sleep, her heart was broken and so was mine. I got so lonely I ran though the house looking for him and I couldn't find him. Where did he go? I couldn't find him! Now what do I do? I have been a great dog and where did they take my mate? Within a week I became used to it and got back with my life.
My mom kept going to work every day and I was hoping that sooner or later she would bring a playmate home! Guess what! on April 14, 2007 she brought home a cat. He is such a great playmate. I can lay on the floor and talk to him and he comes up and rubs noses with me and lets me talk to him. I just love having him around the house.
He gets up on my moms shoulder with his two front paws and gives mom a big hug everyday. He goes in the bathroom and helps himself with her hair ties and carries them though the house. I just love watching him play with things because I want to play with him.
I am so glad my mom decided to get Connor from the shelter because she seems so much happier. When she had to put Dummy to sleep, she was very lonely and she seems so much happier now. I just want to thank you for letting me stay at the shelter till someone came and got me and Connor who is now named Nugget. I love having someone I can talk to.
So every day now when mom goes to work I wonder if she is going to bring me home another play mate? But it doesn't matter now because I have nugget which is a great playmate which I needed when my heart got broken. I love my new home and I am behaving myself, every now and then I chew their shoes when I am bored or lonely but I know they will buy more. But I have never messed in the house so I hope they will keep me cause I love them very much. Thank you so much for giving Nuggett and I such a loving home.
Yours truly, Daisy May

Last time I wrote (actually my Mom does it I'm not quite into holding a pen yet) I told you I was going to be spayed and I didn't know if it was fun or not. Actually I don't remember anything about it, cept now I have some stitches and they shaved nearly all my tummy and inside my legs so now when I sunbathe I look like an exhibitionist, anyway, I went swimming Saturday (it's just over a week since my operation). I didn't mean to go swimming, but my human brother Michael came to visit us at the camper and he was fishing and I thought I had to retrieve the float. Actually I had to swim in the first place cos I fell off the floating dock by mistake. Good job I'd already learned how to swim at home. So, after I'd totally ruined his fishing experience, I went in again just for the heck of it and swam pretty much the whole lake on my own without sticks being thrown and as it got dark I started trying to eat the flies hovering on the top of the water. Next day I felt a little ill. I was pretty quiet the whole day. Mom and Dad really thought that was neat actually altho I know they were worried about me.
When I was "under" they cleaned my ears out at the vets and cut my toenails, but they said because I am so active they didn't need to cut much off. I have my stiches out this week. I've been very good and not tried to pull them out at all. My vet, Dr. Sammie has the same funnie English accent as my Mom and Dad and she says she's giving us an extra $30 off the spaying because the ASPCA donate too. So a big thanks to them and a big thanks to you. They will be sending the certificate of spaying soon, if not already. So I've got to go into kennels when my human brother (another brother) gets married in June and I have to be in for 3 days and I'm going to be such a basket case when I get out. They're leaving me with the old border collie in the next cage. I can't imagine being caged again. How will I know they'll come back for me? I had to have kennel cough medicine as a preventative before I go in. That was ok. I'm on heartworm preventative too. But back to kennels - ugh I hate all that barking I'll be doing it too but I do more of a howl. Can you imagine how sad my face is going to be all that time away from THEM. No-one else can look after me while they are at the wedding cos all their friends are going. It really stinks. I'll be worried they've left me forever. And the only company I'll have is that boring old border collie that is SO NO FUN. She's fat and old and pants all the time and yaps if I try and play with her and nips me if I get too fresh. She's a total idiot about treats - I can steal them from her just like that because he's got cat - er - tacts I think is what Mom said. So I sneak her treats when she's asleep or looking the other way. I am just a big black monkey mom says.
Oh well, bye for now. I have to go find my kong - I think it has something in it.

Dear Shelter staff: I wanted to update you on Winston, the beagle I adopted from you. He (and Penny) just received a whole bag of home made dog cookies baked by one of my coworkers - she has an overweight beagle as well (are there any other kind?), so she whipped up a batch for my guys.
When Winston arrived here he found his spot right away - within 5 minutes of his arrival, he claimed the area right under our coffee table. Our neighbor laughs because it is all glass on top and he calls it "Winston's sun-roof." Plus, we can look down when he's sleeping and marvel at how cute he is, especially when his bassett ears are flopped over to cover his face!!!! We moved his daytime bed under that table, and he has his night-time bed right next to my side of the bed upstairs! No, he's not spoiled at all!!!!!!!
I promised him that he would enjoy his golden years when we got him - and he certainly is!!!!! I am not sure that he is as old as everyone thinks - he does not act like 12 with the pace he keeps on his walks!!!!!!

Bonnie (formerly Jasmine)
Hello it's been about 3 weeks now. Guess what! I am the MOST spoilest dog in the world. Here's wot's new
I swim almost every day and the stick they throw sometimes goes the wrong way but if they point I watch as I'm swimming & then I see it. It's really cool running thru the woods afterwards to dry off and when I shake the water off my now really silky black (no more dandruff) coat I shake as I run and my whole body lifts off the floor as I do it. Did I tell you I can jump fallen branches but I jump much higher than I need to like a racehorse?
I am sending some more photos via shutterfly with mum's help. I like my Dad he is my master and I curl up at his feet while they watch tv and if he tells me "no Bonnie" if I chew something I'm not supposed to I listen to him but I go to Mom if I want some luvin if I've pushed Dad too far and he frowns at me. I have learned to sit, stay, down, leave, drop (ball) fetch, go pee, (Outside!!) all the time I don't have accidents because they really worked on me with that. I'm not allowed to chew the rug on the porch anymore (Mom cut off the hug shredded piece) and I go beddy byes in my crate at night very well and don't cry at all now. There are a lot of comfy blankets in my bed and lots of toys left over from the dog that died and they washed them all and I have new ones too but I do tend to chew them to shreds. I have a green ball outside and that stays there for the ball throwing sessions. They say "we just can't tire her out" and it's true. I have salmon oil gel caps in my food morning and night and I have extra special table scraps put in with my food and Dad is a really good cook so all the time there's great smells emanating from the kitchen so that's when Mom tries to get a pic of me when I'm looking extra pretty because there might be a bit of food drops down my way and it's my job in life to clean the floor.
I don't have many neighbors so I don't see other dogs much. There is an old border collie lives with us but she's no fun. I got into BIG trouble the first week I lived here because I wanted to steal her food and she went "yap" like old ladies do when they want to be left alone and so I tried to chew her a bit and mom had to give her antibiotics cos her ear got infected so I was told there and then that is NOT how you treat your older sister and so now when we eat I eat on the porch and because she can't move much she stays in the kitchen and I'm not allowed in until SHE has finished. You see I finish my food in about 3.5 seconds and she takes her time being old n all.
I did meet some of my mom and dad's friends and so far I've pretty much made them smell like me by licking them and rubbing up against them. That's pretty much my mission in life to make everyone smell of me. Mom and Dad are working on my manners it's just I love everyone so much. Thank you for looking after me I will never forget you. Ooh I nearly forgot...i'm going to be spayed next week whatever that is and the vet says she's going to send you the documents cos mom promised she'd "have me done" I don't know if this is a fun thing ornot? talk soon,

When my family had to endure the loss of our beloved black and tan coonhound, we thought we'd never be able to find another dog to live up to him. Just one week after he died, I was searching on this website. Only 20 minutes away from where he was buried was the Bradford County Humane Society. On the day he died, a little female black and tan coonhound pup was brought in as a stray to the shelter. We took it as a sign that we were supposed to have her. She's brought so much happiness and filled a terrible void that we thought could never be filled. It is amazing how she knows what we have done for her. However, what she has done for us is far more. Just look at that face! How can you not love her?!

Kassie (formerly Beth)
We adopted Beth from your shelter on March 24. She has been re-named Kassie, and is a delightful addition to our family. She is a perfect lady in every respect and is a very well-behaved and well-mannered kitty.
Her favorite games include chasing strings and shiny balls, and just about her favorite place to nap is on a lap.....unless it's next to her new best friend, Lucky, was rescued and bottle-fed 7 years ago. They hit it off instantly and make a wonderful pair. He just loves her, and vice versa. Attached is a photo of them having a nap after an afternoon of playing together (Lucky, at 19 pounds, is obviously on the left; Kassie (Beth), who weighed in at just about 6-1/2 at the time of her spay surgery, is on the right).
Thank you for the work you do, and for saving these wonderful animals so they can find their perfect homes.

Lisa is doing well after her surgery other than the fact she thinks she is a prairie dog. She sits on her bottom straight up and begs for treats. She and Maisy have bonded well and get into mischief on a regular basis, tearing up paper and covering our floors with toys. Naturally for us to pick up while they stand by watching.

Abbey
I thought you might enjoy an updated picture of Abbey. She is now 8 months old, weighs 30 pounds. She is a great dog! She rarely barks, but she loves to bay at the deer when they come in the back yard. She also buries her dog bones. She still loves to sleep in front of the fire place and has been an abosolute joy.
Best wishes,

Bobbie (formerly Jazmine)
Bonnie (prev Jazmine) the black lab says: Wow, this is the best Easter Sunday I've ever known. Dad is cooking ham and garlic mashed potatoes and lots of other things and my Mom's daughter and son in law are coming over to visit and maybe i'll get some table scraps altho I've had two great meals so far. After I left you guys (and by the way thanks for everything!) Mom and Dad took me to Wilkes Barre to Pet Co and we went around choosing toys and then my Mom bathed me and we got home late cos our house is a long way away from you. There's Bushkill Falls right by here and a lake so I might try swimming when it gets warmer. Anyway they bought me this huge black metal crate so I can see everything around me and not be frightened. I was frightened of the stairs up to the living room from the basement (by the way I like the basement it has cool carpets and nice things like dog biscuits stored up high and a tv and sofa. Anyway, once I got the hang of the stairs I was fine. All the way home I was dropping horrible stinky smells because I guess I was a bit nervous. Anyway I carried on doing that all evening but Mom and Dad didn't mind and kept taking me out for walks which is cool. I'm very good on the leash and we live on a really big gated community with 65 miles of roads, so there's loads of walking to be done and hills to climb and deer to watch (and they say I can't chase them). By the way, I'm very good in the yard off the leash I don't run away and I think it has something to do with the fact that I love my home so much I just can't wait to get back in again. When I first met my older sister, Peppie she was like "oh no, not a kid" but I sniffed her butt and she said a warning woof and I didn't bother her again. She is happy as long as I leave her be. She's very nice really just very old and stiff. She likes food too. So they have lots of treats here which have all been checked to make sure they're not the poisonous ones. Anyhoo, I slept in my crate all night with all my new toys and I was so good. When we watched tv last night I tried to get on the sofas but mom said no dogs on furniture and so I lay sleeping with my head up Dad's arm for a bit curled up between the "L" shape of the sofa and loveseat and it was so cosy and warm. I checked out the rest of the house and in their bathroom they have this really small shower stall with a glass door and I went in there and it was quite dark and I stood and wagged my tail at Mom and told her"I like your shower it's just big enough to fit me" then we went out on the deck it's a nice one with a gate and I played with some of the toys. Do you know it snowed here's some pics for you. Mom's giving me cod liver oil capsules with my dinner so that I get rid of my dandruff. She put special stuff in my ears for my itchy bit but they feel good now. She says I have beautiful ears - they're like silk purses. I have a cousin who is just like me only chocolate and about the same age called Diesel. He's going to visit and we're going to play and play. He lives in Maryland tho. so we can't visit a lot. My Mom and Dad has a beautiful golden lab/retriever and she got cremated down the road from you so mom thinks that she sent them to me - kinda spooky but it's cool because now I have a forever home. Anyway, I'd better go now because I've got lots of things to check out still they've got an upstairs where Mom is typing this for me and it's Dad's sometimes-office and by the way Dad has his own office in New Jersey and Mom said maybe he can take me with him on the days he goes there cos who's going to complain I'm so adorable? Oh, Mom wants to say something....
Hi! You don't know what a healing process this is for us to have our Bonnie. We were heartbroken when Bran had to be put to sleep two weeks ago. She was our baby and "irreplaceable". We will never forget her, but oh what a joy this new girl is - more than we could ever have hoped for. I'm sorry Mally wasn't to be for us. I've just not got it in me to take on a dog with needs like that we still have our Peps here the old border collie and she costs us a lot at the vets. We don't have a huge income so you know it's just not to be. However, I hope there's a special someone for her and all the dogs we met. You certainly have a wonderful establishment and we were very impressed with the cleanliness and kindness and caring you all exhibited. Thank you thank you thank you and Bonnie WILL keep in touch.
All the best, big hugs for all the dogs.

I wish to thank everyone of you for the wonderful Pekingese, the former Oscar, now called Buffy. This is an update on him. He behaves beautifully. He stays when you say 'stay.' He is completely housetrained. He likes his treats and does some cute antics for them. My husband, John, is on oxygen twice a day and when he goes on it, Buffy will not leave his side.
One day I was walking Buffy and I fell and dropped his leash and instead of running off, he put his front paws on me and tried nudging me and stayed with me till I got up. He gets along great with our cat, Lilly. They sometimes lay on the living room rug and sleep together. I am enclosing a picture of him.
Again, thank you. You are all very gacious and pleasant.

Dodger
Hi!
This is Joe Wolcott just dropping a line on how Dodger is doing.. 1st of all, I had him on the leash only one day! He stays in his territory and is full of energy. Playing fetch and sprinting around the yard are his favorite things to do. He is very vocal and is always making some kind of conversation of sorts with us! He's absolutely the best dog I've ever owned and he's loving it here w/ me and the girls. He loves other dogs too....since there are many people who walk their dog past our house he has met many and they too have been friendly... recently the neighbors "old" dog and their new puppy have escaped their own yard to come over and see Dodger....yes, they know too that he is something special.

Elsa
To the Bradford County Humane Society,
I want to thank you for posting your animals on line for people to see and to adopt. I adopted Elsa ( named after the Lion in born Free) in 2001 her mom was a pure bred Cocker Spainel and she was 1 of 7 puppys left at home alone by a I do believe it was a Over the road truck driver.
She has been a joy and enlightment in my faimlys life. As you know from me calling you a few years ago her liver shunts never closed which is common in the smaller breeds and I thought I was going to lose her quite a few times as the vets did not know what was wrong with her. After many trips and expense to different vets I went to the Milan Vet Clinic they have done a wonderful job in finding out what was wrong with her and have been a god send to all of my animals and family.
Dogs with liver shunt issues can have the surgery to have them closed or fixed however my lil 10 pound gril probably would not make it through the surgery or if she did would have a tough time recoperateing. Most dogs who do not have the surgery live for 2-4 years. Our Little Elsa will be 6 years old in July and is still as spunky as ever.
We took the vets advice and are useing natural items as well as herbs etc to make her live full and sastifying. I wanted to share this with you as well as a picture of Elsa and her other adoted sister Simba. Just to let you know Elsa rules the roost when it comes to Simba and out 2 cats. Simba weighs 85 pounds and follows Elsas every command!
Thank you again you are awesome people for being who you are!!!!

Doolin, formerly Kingsley
This is Doolin (formally Kingsley) with an update! I ran my first ever agility trial this weekend in Manchester, NH. It was a blast!!!!!! I have been going to class and practicing with my older brothers for weeks now but this weekend was unbelievable. So many dogs and people and soooooo much fun. Mom and I had 7 runs for the weekend and we completed all 7 of them in FIRST PLACE and with qualifying scores. That means that we ran clean, no dropped bars, off courses and we ran under the allotted time. I received a huge rosette for having a "Perfect Weekend"!!!!!
I just wanted to let you know that we told my story to lots of people this weekend and they all agreed that you do good work at BCHS. If it wasn't for you, I would not be the agility star that I am :) Thanks for posting my sad, sad picture on Petfinder last July and letting me go to this great forever home in NH. I think of how lucky I am every day.

He rode home in the back of the SUV and fell asleep. Because he is so big, we have to remind ourselves he is still a puppy. He loves everybody.

Lisa is doing well with her new bud Maisy. They have both surprised me by how well they are getting along. Lisa likes to chase Maisy through the house, then run away while Maisy chases her. A new soft toy for both of them a coat and bed for Lisa to go with her new look. She has had a nice Oatmeal bath and trimming , haircut and shave that lets her see better. The groomer did a nice job. She has checked our downstairs out from end to end including anything she can fit under and is now taking a well earned nap after what Has been a hetic but worthwhile day for her. Hopefully the meds and Frontline for the fleas will make her comfortable shortly.
Thanks again and I will send more photos in the future

Zorro
Hi everybody! It's me Zorro. My new family calls me Shadow. That's because I would not leave their sides for the first few days after I got to my new home. As you can see in the pictures I have a new boy and a new girl . I love them as much as they love me. They play with me and all of my new toys, and take me for walks. My new mom and dad aren't in the pictures, but they love me a lot, and I love them a lot too. My new Mom spends lots of time teaching me things. She says I am very smart. I have only been here for 18 days (well 16 if you count my stay at the vet for the awful surgery I had to have - they should have sent you the neuter paper) and I already know sit, shake, sit pretty, and lay down. We are still working on stay and down. I am also 99.99% house broken. I sit by the door when I need to go out, but I forget to bark. Now that I can hold it during the night, I get to sleep with one of my new kids. I only go in my crate when no one is home to let me out. My new Dad plays with me a lot too. He keeps talking about summer, and the lake... whatever that is. I guess I will find out though; he says I'm going love it. And... I get to go for a ride too... I like that!
In the pictures you'll see me with my new kids, and one of me in front of the Christmas tree. I like to sleep under that thing. Oh yeah, and I have discovered that the couch is nice and cushy. Mom says it's a good thing her furniture is black.
Well... Thanks for helping me find my new family. I am one happy pup!

Screamer
On November 4th I adopted a kitten named Screamer, and I just thought I'd let you know how he's doing. Initially, we were going to rename him, but we found out that "Screamer" really suits him. He's actually pretty quiet most of the time, but when he talks, it seems to be at full volume. He really makes us laugh. He and our dog, Sadie, get along very well, and usually eat from the same dish at the same time. They usually sleep next to eachother on the couch or floor. Screamer was neutered on November 15th. He wasn't supposed to run, or jump, but it was almost impossible to slow him down. He is probably the nicest cat I have ever owned. He NEVER uses his claws, which is a nice surprise. It has been many years since we've had a new cat at Christmas, and we are interested in how long our Christmas tree will survive. I don't have any pictures to send today, but will send some when I can get him to sit still long enough to smile! Screamer has adapted very well to his new home and family!!

Cassie goes home for Christmas
The shelter staff had grounds for an early Christmas celebration on December 4th when their 'mascot' cat, Cassie, found her way into someone's heart and home. Cassie arrived at the shelter in May of 2004 and was passed over time and again because she liked other cats and kittens more than she cared for people. For over 2 &1/2 years, Cassie watched the world from her favorite windowsill, barely seen by potential adopters.
Cassie owes her discovery this month to being viewed in a newspaper article about the shelter's Christmas party. The adoptive parent, Christy Williams of Warren Center, fell in love with her photo and adopted Cassie along with a shelter kitten. We are happy for Cassie because we know she will now live happily ever after, perched in a comfy windowseat, snuggling with her buddy Munchkin, and specially cared for at last.

Dear Maryanne,
I cannot tell you how happy Buddy makes me and my husband Jim -- although he would never admit it. Buddy is just about as perfect as any dog I could ever have hoped for. He goes everwhere with us and is so well behaved, as well as quiet, I don't even hear him. I kept thinking how much he looks like a lion cub and when I looked on the internet at his breed, it did say that Legend says that he is a lion from years past in China. They are called "Foo Dogs".
As you can see, his Tiger is his favorite toy to take his nap with.
Many many thanks,

Doolin
I wanted to let you know how Doolin is fitting in. I guess the best way to describe it is AMAZING! He is so smart and willing to please, it's a joy training him. He gets his supper outside doing simple obedience and agility. When it's time to come in, he lays down and wants to stay out there and do more. I'm thinking he will start in competition by January of next year and will excel in everything he tries. His aggression has mellowed to "talking" and he has attended 3 different agility trials with hundreds of dogs and people and he has been a perfect gentlemen at all of them. He is even letting little kids pet him and he behaves very well. I'm so surprised in his change of attitude, but I'm also pleased and breathing a sigh of relief.
Today he went for his first haircut. We probably aren't going to groom him, as we both like that shaggy look on him, but we thought a clip might even out that really bad coat and help the re-growth of new hair. He went in looking shaggy and came out looking like a breed. What a handsome little man. Here is his shelter picture and what he looked like tonight.
Again, thanks for posting him on Petfinder and I hope that you continue your good work.

Hi Everyone:
Just a quick note to let you know that Winston is loving his new home. I don't think he was quite sure what to make of us at first when he found out that we got up at 5 AM for our morning walk. However, he soon got adjusted to being a "morning dog" and is now the first one who is anxious to go! He loves his walks, he is eating his new reduced fat diet and is a very happy and loving dog. He loves to wait at the door for me when I get home from work and follows John and I around the house wherever we are (especially if our destination is the kitchen). He enjoys his sister Penny, and doesn't mind the cats.
Thanks for everything, we love our Winston!!!!

I am enclosing a photo of her for you to see..she is great !!!! We are very glad that we came to your shelter..she is a wonderful addition to our family !!!!

Doolin
Hi folks,
Kingsley (now known as Doolin) did super on his 7 hour ride to NH. He started in his crate in the back of the Tahoe, but within 5 miles we knew that wasn't going to work. He was crying the whole time. We pulled over and with all the door closed, pulled him from the crate and put him in a full seatbelt harness that we had brought along for him. Our two other dogs, Duffy and Duncan wear them in the back seat for every trip and had worn them all the way to PA today. He sat with them in the back and ended up laying down and sleeping most of the way home. Several stops along the way went well and he really walked well on leash. He loves his brothers and was so well behaved. Tonight he came home and had a bath right away and then supper and he finally crawled up into my lap and kissed me. I think he was saying thanks. He is a true find, a gorgeous little boy and we thank you for posting him on Petfinder. Attache d are pictures from his ride home. Duffy was sleeping on the arm rest, Duncan was sleeping on Duffy and Doolin was sleeping on Duncan. He stopped shaking and is getting quite bold in his new house. He's curious about the cats but has not advanced on them as yet.
I will be sending updates on him so be prepared. I tend to like to talk about the animals :) Thanks again for the easy transaction today.

Update on Radar, Jr., Happy Ending!
Thanks to the community's immediate and generous response with donations towards Radar's care, Radar Jr. received his much-needed eye surgery which served to eliminate the painful pressure of his glaucoma condition. He has also been neutered and placed on a necessary worm medication schedule.
Because of his special needs, Radar Jr. was placed in a foster home throughout the duration of his medical process. The foster care home has so enjoyed Radar Jr. that they officially adopted him on April 25th.
We at BCHS wish to thank the community for providing the funds toward his special care so that he was able to be placed in a loving home. This is truly a story with a happy ending.
Breeze
Hi All;
Just wanted to let you know that the dog that we adopted at your shelter that you named "Breeze" (we kept her name, and she was adopted 8-4-'05), is doing very well at her new home. I call her "Breezy" most of the time. She is so lovable and so much a part of our family, that we wouldn't know what to do without her! She is very affectionate, and is a very good watchdog, barking at everyone that either comes to the door, or if they generally just move around outside...lol. She doesn't seem to tolerate men too well, and we really don't know why. She growled at my husband for 3 or 4 days after he came home from work, since it was just me and my daughter for a few hours the day we adopted her. She accepts him now, but don't let any other men come to the house, or she'll let them know about it all the while they're there at our house, where she'll bark constantly at them.
She's a cutie, with her long black and white coat, and her, what I call "poneytail ears." I think her cute little furry ears are what we noticed right away, and it was instantaneous "love at first sight" when we saw her. She was the quitest one there that day, and when she looked at us with her pretty brown eyes, we knew she was the dog for us.
Even though I adopted her for my daughter, we will probably miss her when my daughter moves out and has a life of her own, taking Breeze with her. After all, she's our little "grandpuppy."
Sincerely;
Carol Edwards, Canton, PA.

Over the past 3 years, we have adopted our 3 "other" kids from BCHS. As you look at the picture of the three of them, they are Pepee', Cutie pie (rescued puppy from Troy area) and Diesel.
Pepee' was adopted as a Christmas gift for my wife 3 years ago. He has to be laying in someone's lap or across their legs about 24 / 7. Diesel was picked out about 2 years ago by my daughter. He was to become Pepee's playmate. He was named by BCHS due to his purring sounded like a Diesel motor. He lives up to his name. He is the most loveable friend you would want. There are times you can actually hear him across the room.
We had to put my best friend and Athens Twp. Vol. Fire co. mascot to sleep in July of 2004. She was a pure bred Dalmatian named Madame Spottie the 28th. She was 14 years old and had some medical problems. Her daily living was to hard on her and she does not suffer anymore.
My wife had met Cutie Pie (alias Barker at BCHS) at the Milan clinic. She was suffering from respiratory problems. All she talked about that night was this cute small dog that had been rescued from an elderly lady in Troy who had around 30 dogs that were taken. At the time I was driving back and forth from Wilawana to Towanda for my nursing school. I decided to stop and see this dog. She was one sick puppy at the time. I was told they might not be able to adopt her out. Problem was I was attached as soon as I met her too. I kept on stopping in to check on her over the 2 weeks. I was told that there was a possibility that I would be able to adopt. All this time my wife had no idea what I was doing. The great staff that was there instructed me on how to administer the medication, set up a check up at the Milan clinic and adoption process.
Needless to say she came home with me. That day my wife came home from work, found me in my recliner taking a nap with Cutie Pie sleeping on my lap. I woke up to the sounds of crying. The two have been mother and daughter ever since.
Thank you to the staff at BCHS. You are a great bunch of caring professional people.

Spencer
In July 2004, I was driving by your facility and thought I should stop in. I had been looking for a little dog and had not had much luck. When I walked into your building, there was the little Lhasa Apso named Romeo who was jumping around in the first kennel. While I was there I was shown a couple of dogs but I kept thinking about Romeo. When I asked to see him and he came out - I knew that he had to come home with me. I think he may have known it too, he jumped in the backseat of my car as soon as the door opened! I brought him home and he has brightened up my world ever since!
I wanted to forward on some pictures of him. His name is now Spencer.
Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful little guy!

Desi
On a visit to our sons home about June 2-3, 2000 we visited your Humane Society where we found our best friend. He wasn't at your shelter very long at all, in fact you weren't quite ready to part with him yet, but we convinced you to let us take him home with us that very day.
We live in MA, and we were just visiting there for the weekend. My son lives in Ulster and had gotten his pets at your shelter also, so when we visited him, and we had lost our beloved Rottweiler Micki of nearly 10 years to cancer about 6 mos. earlier, we knew it was time to look for another friend for life. Well, this is what we came home with nearly 6 years ago at the tiny age of about 10 weeks then. As you can see, he has thrived, and we are all happy he became part of our family that day!
He has grown up to be a very dear friend and companion, he is a big dog about 120lbs. now, but he has been a very good dog the whole time we have had him. Just thought when I found your email address that you may like to see a guest from the past...he is a keeper! We were very fortunate to have come for a visit that very day, and he is a very lucky dog that we did.
Best regards, Nancy & Bill..and our best friend Desi, our pound dog from Bradford County Humane Society
Buck
Dec. 28, 2005
You were right! We didn't go home without him! Buck sat in the middle of the back seat and enjoyed the ride to Watsontown. He experienced a lot of farm friends on arrival, apparently his first horse while still in the truck. It must have been his first llamas and potbelly pig also. He even experienced some bantam chickens up close and accepted them. He has his day with Leighow Veterinary Hospital on Jan. 16th for neutering, tatooing and microchip. By that time he should be well oriented with the other two dogs. Evie, the lab, made up with him when he got out of the truck.
Feb. 15, 2006
Buck has turned out to be a very affectionate companion. He has had some problems with sheep and guinea fowl. He likes to ride the truck and tractors and looks forward to going along to the barn but must be kept leashed because of the guineas. Eventually everything will work out and he will assume his role as a heard dog as his greatest interest is to the other dogs working the cattle. Thanks and take care.

Sadie
We adopted Sadie (named Faith by you) two years ago. She was with a group of dogs that had been seized from their owner. I've been meaning to let you know what a wonderful dog she is. She loves our two boys (4 years and 8 months) and is very tolerant of them.
I am so glad that we were able to give her a better life. I've attached a couple of pictures for you to add to your scrapbook.
Thanks!
Summer
Summer was at our shelter from July through October. Her new owners saw her on our webpage and came all the way from Connecticut to meet her. Summer is now their "precious companion".
Lucas
We adopted Lucas from you couple of months ago (September 2005). He and we are all adjusting well. He just graduated from "Puppy kindergarten." Our trainer couldn't easily identify his breed, she suspected hound mostly, so I did some research and sent his photo to a few breeders. It looks like, based on his markings he could possibly a mountain view or kemmer cur. Our vet says that most of the mountain view curs are a mixed breed of beagle, coon hound, and yellow lab. Not a bad combo I suspect! Any way just thought you may find it interesting. We recntly had him neutered and will be sending down the receipt with our coupon. Thanks again for all of your help!!
George
Just wanted you to see how George (you called him Feather) is doing. We love him very much and he gets along very well with our Westies. He has been neutered and declawed and has healed very well from both. He has made a great family pet.
Uther
Thanks again for Uther (formerly Rascal). He's so GREAT!!! This is him and his sister Boo doing what they love best...
