NEW HOURS AND ENHANCED SERVICES FOR THE SHAWNEE ANIMAL SHELTER

The City of Shawnee announces new hours of operation to the animal shelter. The Shawnee Animal Shelter is now open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday and remains open through the noon hour. This change in hours allows citizens to pick up lost pets and adopt animals during non-standard working hours.

In order to better serve you, animal licenses may now be purchased at either the Shawnee Animal Shelter at 1900 W. Independence, or at the Code Enforcement office at 222 N. Broadway.

Holding time for lost pets has also been extended. Unlicensed animals will now be held for 72 hours. Licensed pets will now be held for 96 hours. In addition, microchip scanning is performed on each animal that is brought to the City of Shawnee Animal Shelter for the purpose of owner location.

The city also has added two years to the Rabies Vaccination period after the second shot..... making Rabies licenses good for three years. This is the state requirement based on the relatively new vaccine which lasts 3 years.

These changes are being instituted to provide better, more convenient services for pet owners and guardians to reclaim their animals. Extended hours will give the public more opportunity to offer homes to abandoned animals.

These actions help ALL pet owners/guardians.

Please tell every pet owner you know about the new enhanced services of the Animal Shelter. Working with the city leaders SPAR helped make all these changes possible, but we can do more.
