"Dogs Deserve Better" (off-site link)

The Morgan County Humane Society was founded in Morgan County, Ohio, in 1975. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we operate on donations, fees, and fundraisers. Our purpose is to further humane principles, assist with the return of lost dogs, control surplus pet breeding, and find safe homes for homeless dogs in cooperation with the county dog warden.

In April, 2008, we assumed responsibility for the former county dog pound. The building is now a clean, well-run shelter where many dogs have found a second chance. Our adoption rate is over 90%.

Volunteers and foster homes are always needed. Dog walkers are an important part of the daily operation of the shelter.

  • Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in this country while only 10,000 people are born.
  • Every year 10-12 million animals are euthanized in shelters for lack of available homes.
  • On average, 64% of all animals taken into shelters nationwide have to be euthanized for this reason.
  • Purebreds account for 30% of all the animals in shelters. "Papers" don't mean an animal should be bred.
