"I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. "I have done something," He replied. "I created You."   ~ Jim Willis

 Who We Are

Shepherds' Hope Rescue was formed by two independent rescuers who forged an alliance to more effectively help our beloved breed. We are disturbed by the alarming increase of German Shepherd Dogs in the country's animal shelters and in neglectful situations.

Come on - Let's play!

Shepherds' Hope is not a shelter; nor do we have our own facility. As volunteers, we house our rescue dogs either in our own homes, foster homes if available, or board them with dog sitters or kennels until placed with their new families.  We make the commitment to each and every animal to resolve any health or behavioral issues prior to adoption, and all dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and heartworm tested.

German Shepherd Dogs are not for everyone, and as long-time, multiple Shepherd owners ourselves, we are familiar with the type of home/family best suited for this breed. Also taken into consideration are the dog's needs and temperament so that both dog and family are happy with the placement. Our application and home visit process ensures we are placing these dogs in the homes best suited to them. Our goal is save as many as possible and unite them with loving and caring owners so that they will never suffer or know sadness and loneliness again.

Just waiting for my forever family.... Adopting A Friend

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Dear Friends,

We at Shepherds Hope Rescue urgently need your help! Although our financial situation has never been ideal, we have now come upon our most desperate and difficult time to date.

Due to the current state of the economy, foreclosures and job losses have caused more and more families to be forced to give up their beloved friends. Dogs are being abandoned in alarming ways and record numbers. The shelters are so full that even puppies are being euthanized due to lack of space. Meanwhile donations are at an all-time low, and with families taking summer vacations and preparing children for school, adoptions are few and far between.

We've always been reluctant to ask directly for help in this way, but we need it now more than ever. Many of you receiving this email have adopted dogs from us, are family, friends, coworkers, other animal lovers. Possibly you are a family who we helped re-home your dog when you needed our help. Currently we have over 30 dogs in our care, and the boarding and medical expenses are upwards of $50,000. It is devastating to us, but we now have to refuse dogs into our rescue because we don't have the funds to maintain them until they find their forever homes. These are beautiful dogs who deserve a second chance, victims of the economy, divorce, or perhaps a family who just grew tired of them or never realized how much work having a dog takes.

Won't you please consider making a donation? As of March 2009, we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization so your donation is tax-deductible. No amount is too small and every little bit helps. If you are unable to do so at this time, we certainly understand but would appreciate if you could pass this email on to other dog-loving friends or family who might want to help.

We look forward to a brighter future and continuing to bring the joy of four-legged companionship to families for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Jeannie, Donna and the gang at Shepherds Hope Rescue

PLEASE HELP SARGENT AND JADE

Halrey now gets to go to Yale to work everyday with his new Mom!

"I'm losing my home and I can't keep my two Shepherds, can you please help?"  Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence with the current economic state.    I knew we had to help the desperate woman on the phone.   But I was not prepared for the sight that awaited me when I came to meet them.     Jade greeted me first, ball in mouth and ready to play.  She was very friendly.  This pretty girl is a former breeding dog but developed seizures after her last litter, so she was spayed.  Jade is currently on inexpensive medication (about $20 per month) and has not had seizures in many months.

When I saw Sargent my heart fell - a bag of bones, so emaciated he could barely stand.  He has the most beautiful, soft and soulful eyes. Sargent just stood there, barely moving but following Jade's every move with those sad eyes.  They appear to have spent most of their time in a filthy yard - they were so dirty and smelly I could barely pet them.     But more importantly, it was clear Sargent needs to see a vet - he hasn't been in over 3 years.

We need donations to provide medical care for Sarge and medication for Jade.   But more importantly we want to find them a home TOGETHER.  They have lived together their whole lives and are totally devoted to each other - Sargent is 5 years old, Jade is 4.    They have grown up around children, cats and bunnies.  They have been around other dogs, although Sargent is a bit pushy with males because he is not neutered.    We plan on doing so when his health is more stable and he gains some much needed weight.    Due to the imminence of the foreclosure on their owners house, we had to put them in a rescue-friendly shelter, but they can't stay there indefinitely.    These sweet dogs need love, stability and the warmth and security of a forever home.
If you are interesting in adopting or being a Canine Hero for Sargent and Jade, please contact Donna at Bluemoonblue@optonline.net.
