"I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. "I have done something," He replied. "I created You."   ~ Jim Willis

 Who We Are

Shepherds' Hope Rescue was formed by two independent rescuers who forged an alliance to more effectively help our beloved breed. We are disturbed by the alarming increase of German Shepherd Dogs in the country's animal shelters and in neglectful situations.

Come on - Let's play!

Shepherds' Hope is not a shelter; nor do we have our own facility. As volunteers, we house our rescue dogs either in our own homes, foster homes if available, or board them with dog sitters or kennels until placed with their new families.  We make the commitment to each and every animal to resolve any health or behavioral issues prior to adoption, and all dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and heartworm tested.

German Shepherd Dogs are not for everyone, and as long-time, multiple Shepherd owners ourselves, we are familiar with the type of home/family best suited for this breed. Also taken into consideration are the dog's needs and temperament so that both dog and family are happy with the placement. Our application and home visit process ensures we are placing these dogs in the homes best suited to them. Our goal is save as many as possible and unite them with loving and caring owners so that they will never suffer or know sadness and loneliness again.

Reign's Story - Finally in his forever home!

Sophie & Reign - Soul Mates

Home for the Holidays!  Shepherds' Hope is very pleased to announce that Reign has been adopted and is spending the holidays with his new dad and mom and big sister. Jay and Joan came to visit Reign a few weeks ago and brought their beloved Sophie to meet Reign. Sophie was my second longest foster dog about two years ago and Jay and Joan adopted her. They wanted to find a soul mate for Sophie and they fell in love with Reign. Now Reign spends his days playing and romping with his new big sister.

Reign still will need to see Dr. Lesser for a few follow up visits for his elbow but Reign is good to go. This is a very bitter sweet holiday season for us. Reign has been such an important part of our family. Rolphy and Valentine still walk through the rooms looking for him. Rolphy and Reign were best buds and would play for hours.

Reign will always be in our hearts. We really miss him and his wonderful energy and sweetness. He is truly a courageous and amazing dog. But we live so close to Reign that Jay and Joan tell us that we have life time visiting rights. In the Spring we are planning a reunion.

Thank you for your support, your prayers and your very generous donations for Reign. He has touched so many people's lives. Reign wishes you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah and a Wonderful and Happy New Year!

Big Hugs from,
Reign, Donna, Jeannie and the Pack at Shepherds Hope

Run over by a car when he was 3 months old, Reign's owners never bothered to fix his leg. 15 months later, without ever taking him to a vet, they dumped him at a kill shelter because they didn't want him any more. The owners were informed that he would be put down because of his injured leg, but they left him there anyway. The angels with Shepherds Hope took him in and raised the money needed for his surgery. We are deeply indebted to all those that have sent prayers and well wishes and most importantly, to all those that have donated toward his medical expenses.

Reign is just the sweetest, most loving, playful boy, despite his rough beginnings. He loves people, other dogs & especially his kitties! He did not receive much training in his first home, so he is learning his manners. He is fully housebroken, up-to-date with shots & neutered. We are looking for a very special home for him. If you think that could be you, please complete an Adoption Application or contact Donna via email at bluemoonblue@optonline.net.

TO READ REIGN'S STORY FROM THE BEGINNING CLICK HERE   While we abhor bringing up the subject of money, we have, many times over, used all the funds previously collected to help Reign. Any donation you can make would be greatly appreciated but most of all, Reign needs his forever family to apply to adopt him.

10/26/08 UPDATE: TA DA!!!! Check out Reign's leg without bandages!!! He is doing Reign -looking SPECTACULAR after nearly a year of surgeries and casts and bandage changes and nursing from SHepherds Hope and tLinus the nurse kitty. great. He's walking and running like a champ and playing with his foster pack. The only thing we are waiting for is for the wound that is about the size of a golf ball on his elbow to heal. He is getting vitamin E rub downs twice a day and the wound is looking great. He will go back to Dr. Lesser in a week and then we'll see. We are thinking that he will be available to go to his forever home around the first of December. We just want to make sure that his leg is fully healed.  He is getting a lot of physical therapy which consists of long walks and lots of fun. Reign and Rolphy have resumed their toy tug play and Reign is really getting quite strong. If anyone thinks that they would like to adopt Reign, please fill out an application

Reign is the sweetest, most loving and snuggle-able GSD I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Reign thanks you all for your prayers, cards and donations. We aren't finished yet, until Reign finds his forever home, but we are definitely on the downhill run.
Hugs to all from Reign. xxxxoooooo......
