Thanks to everyone who made this *sold out* show a success!
If you missed our pet photos with Santa, here are a few sample pictures to entice you to join us next year! WoofStock 2006 - July 16th - Country Pines "Who let the dogs out...?" We did at Woofstock 2006. It was quite a hot day, but that didn't stop many people from coming out to support the Humane Society on this brilliant July Sunday. With live bands, the arrival of the 'Hogs for the Dogs' Harley riders, the 'Little Zoo 4 You' with petting zoo and pony rides, the Humane Society animals and other pets visiting, raffles galore, casino games, and cash bar, there was no stopping the fun. The chicken dinners were excellent; we'll have to order more next year! Thanks to Manley's and Starbuck's for their support with food and cold water and drinks on such a hot day. And a big thank you to Country Pines for the great setting. THE HUMANE SOCIETY'S first annual "Paws for A Cause" campaign was held May 13th through July 16th. MANLEY'S MIGHTY MART helped out the shelter by displaying paw prints with your names for a dollar or five-dollar donation. Lots of sponsor names have been displayed, and we thank everyone for supporting us in this latest fundraiser. Thanks to Manley's and all of our supporters; it was a great success! Mother's Day Weekend Adoptathon - May 13th, 2006 We had a very successful adoptathon on Saturday, May 13th. A number of dogs and cats went to new homes - including Marbles, a lovely Flat-coated retriever mix, who had been longing for a home of his own for too long now! Thanks to the UMA Star committee for all their volunteers who made the day go much more smoothly - and also for adopting a few feline friends themselves ! Volunteer Appreciation Party - April 29, 2006 - 1-3 pm For any volunteers that missed the Appreciation Party, we say "thank you" for all your efforts. You missed a nice event - with food and gifts for all participating volunteers. This event gave volunteers the change to meet others with similar interests, provide us with feedback on how to improve our volunteer program, and view some recently purchase training materials on animal behavior and assessment. Pet a Pooch at BU Spring Fling For the first time in 5 years, Binghamton University was able to have its Spring Fling in SUNNY weather. The students and public were also able to help support our shelter by participating in the "Pet a Pooch", which many did. Thank you for your support and hopefully, see you next year! Pet Photos with the Easter Bunny On Sunday, April 2nd, 2006 from 1-4 pm, Pet Depot hosted The Humane Society and STAR 1057 for Pet Photos with the Easter Bunny. We had all sorts of breeds show up for a fun afternoon of trying to get everyone to look at the camera! We will be posting some wonderful pictures of this event shortly. What an awesome party! If you missed our Casino Night on March 25th at the Knights of Columbus you'll just have catch one of our other events later in the year. (Can you say Woofstock? Keep tuned!) This year we had a great lineup of donated baskets raffled off, and a big crowed enjoyed listening to our DJ (courtesy of Rockin' Robin and her friend Cindy!) while enjoying various foods and drinks. Black jack and the big wheel were very popular as well as all the decorations with pictures of the animals we have helped over the years and those still in need. Many thanks to all who donated food, supplies, and entertainment, and thanks to staff and volunteers for all the hard work. This February we held a very successful Murder Mystery Dinner at Pinos Restaraunt on Conklin Avenue. A full house enjoyed dinner and a show, hosted by Detective Chief Inspector Dwight Kemper. (MurderMysteryTheater.com) If you missed this one, we are considering a larger fall dinner; we'll keep you posted! Pet Photos with Santa
Oh, the weather outside was frightful, but the Photos with Santa were quite delightful! If you missed it, we had a great time at Pet Depot for Pet Photos with Santa 2005! Star 105.7 joined us in our attempts to get everyone to look at the camera. Dogs, cats, birds, turtles - a wide variety of friends met Santa and documented their chance at giving Santa their list for Christmas. If you didn't make it this year, we hope you will join us next season. Happy Holidays ,and thanks to all who helped make this event a success. Turkey Raffle
This was the first time we tried this event, and those people who participated had a wonderful time both trying to win and winning turkeys! The event was held at The Remedy in Kirkwood. While originally scheduled for 7-10, it was too fun to quit that early, with Rockin' Robin kindly staying late to help us raise money for the shelter. Lots of good Karoake singers (and not so good!) made the evening an entertaining one. $7,5000 Raffle - Friday, November 4, 2005 Sach's Tee House was the host of a great party for our second annual raffle! With a variety of food and beverages, the crowd waited in anticipation for the announcement of the winners of this year's raffle. But even once winners were announced, everyone stayed to enjoy the comaraderie (and did we mention food?) that made the evening a great success. Plane Rides - Saturday, October 29, 2005 Plane Rides had a rain delay this year, back one week from the original date of Sat., Oct. 22, 2005. So, we did not have the usual crowd we hoped for, but we had some loyal followers who managed to track down the date! People reported beautiful foilage and even spots of snow on the mountains! Thank you to all who made it to Triple Cities airport for the event and took advantage of the rides to take in scenery around our lovely area. . Volunteer Orientations 2005Volunteer orientations are normally scheduled on one Saturday a month at 11:00 am. Below a large group of new volunteers watches as an adorable pup, Chubby, find the training all a game! Lots of puppy energy! Please come join us in making a difference to these animals! (Click on pictures to check out Chubby in training!) Make a Difference Day - Saturday, October 22, 2005 The Humane Society had a good turnout for the Make A Difference Day, with volunteers working on various projects around the shelter. We had volunteers from HealthNow New York, Inc. the Girl Scouts, and Binghamton Univerisity. A big thank you to all who participated and helped to make a difference for our animals. Tony Stewart Day - Home Depot 8-18-05Thursday, August 18th, found the Humane Society raising money for our animals by providing food for Tony Stewart Day at Home Depot. Fans of this Nascar celebrity seemed to appreciate the cold drinks, snacks, and food served by our cheerful board members and volunteers. Tony made his appearance to sign autographs at 7:00, and fans celebrated the day by buying souvenirs (and food!) Below are pictures of our happy crew and also of a replica of Tony Stewart's car with James and Terri serving as models! Animal Cruelty Regulations Seminar - June 23, 2005 Jeff Eyre from Spring Farms Sanctuary assisted The Humane Society in spreading the word on animal cruelty laws. On June 23, about 20 individuals from the Binghamton Police, the Sheriff's office, Dog Control office, and the Humane Society spent an informative day at The Plantation restaurant. Thanks to Jeff for his educational and captivating presentation and thanks to those who attended. Also, thank you to The Plantation for use of their facilities and a wonderful luncheon! The day was another step forward in working to reduce animal cruelty in our area.
