HAPPY ENDINGS (p. 4)
(Please click on pictures to see larger picture) (October 2005) An enthusiastic update on Lilly,
a recently adopted cat: "I adopted Lilly about 2 months ago....she is
doing REALLY well! She is such a good cat and gets along well with
everyone in the family. Lilly likes to cuddle with family members when
she wants to sleep. Lilly is the BEST cat and I can not say enough
about her. Lilly likes to lay in the window when it is nice out and
when the window is open. Lilly is a VERY SPECIAL cat; She is in the
best of care. She gets a lot of attention and love. I am really glad
that I found a wonderful cat like Lilly." We think that Lilly's owners
are very special too, and it's great to hear about another Happy Ending! (October 2005) Dusty, one of our older dogs, is
a very lovable dog that kept hoping for a home of his own. He was a bit
of a submissive grinner, whom volunteers enjoyed regularly walking.
Late September, Dusty finally found a home of his own with canine
companionship, no less! Dusty very happily went home with his new
family, and we are happy he has finally found his "forever" home. . (September 2005) A note from Donna Deal of Glen
Highland Farm, the border collie rescue which took in Randee from our
Humane Society to try to find her a home: "I'm delighted to report that
Randee was a very friendly and enthusiastic learner in basic dog
training with kids who participate at Glen Highland in "Camp Border Collie for Kids"
and shortly thereafter, found a great "forever home." A picture of her
with her new adoptive family and her new furry best friend is [below].
(Rudy is the dog on the left.) Thank you so much for letting her come
to the Farm!" For those of you not familiar with Glen Highland Farm, it
is like Heaven for Border Collies! Please check out their web site. (September 2005) Tiny Tim was one of those
puppies who was not long at the shelter! He found a great new home,
with his own "digs", toys, and comfy carpet and sofa to stretch out on.
Looks like he found a place where he can happily play and nap to his
heart's content! (September 2005) From Erin: "I adopted Max (the
cat formerly known as Melly) from your Humane Society. I just wanted to
let you know that he is doing great, and that I could never have asked
for a better cat. Thank you for taking care of him and for helping me
find him. We are very happy together!" Thank you, Erin. (September 2005) Buddy was one of our featured
dogs, but no longer! Here you can see Buddy with his family. He has
gone to a wonderful home with a big yard and lots of other "buddies" to
play with. He looks like a very happy dog and we are glad he found such
a great home! (August 2005) It was apparent from the minute
Rosie arrived at the shelter that she had a shining personality, with
not a mean bone in her body! And she quickly found a wonderful home
with a family and a young boy to call her own. See the picture below
for a very content Rosie, who looks wonderfully groomed and happy to be
home! (August 2005) It has been almost 4 months since
we brought Piper to her new home. Wow, how fast that time has gone!
Piper has fit into our family very nicely. She is a very affectionate
dog and loves to be right next to any of us lounging in the living
room. She also immediately decided it was her job to protect all us and
our home. Right now Piper in involved in some doggie obedience classes,
which she is doing very well in. Our family loves softball and so does
Piper! She loves to play fetch and she is super fast! We are so very
glad we found her on your website! Thanks for
everything, Jim & Lisa Hi! I went home with my new mom almost 3 months
ago, and ever since then I've been working on training her to do
whatever I want! She's learning pretty quickly, but sometimes she's a
little slow giving me the catnip or some ice for my water. I'm very
happy in my new house--I have lots of toys (my favorites are a teddy
bear named Smacky and an octopus). My mom turns on the facet for me
sometimes so I can drink from there and play in the water. My
grandparents send me packages sometimes with new toys, treats and
catnip (my favorite!). Mom's friends come and play with me all day
long--and some of them even bring or make me toys. Sometimes, though, I
have more fun chasing my tail than playing with my toys. As you can see
from my pictures, I'm a very pretty cat (and very soft and shiny). My
mom is very, very, very lucky to have such a beautiful and sweet kitty.
We make a good pair, and I'm very happy every day that she saw my
picture on the Humane Society website and knew she had to have me.
Thanks, Binghamton Humane Society for helping me find the perfect
home!!!! Love, Baheera Hi! My name is Rosie, but when I was living at the Humane Society, they called me 'Babs'. Back in those days, I was a street dog with an unknown past. When I was picked up, I was living a shady and sordid life with a German Shepherd. I was young, naive, and impressionable - looking for love in all the wrong places. Ever since my new family adopted me, I am happy and contented. I have turned over a new leaf through a search for meaning and spirituality. I have lots of time to meditate, as you can see from my pictures. I also go for lots of walks (OK, I have a slight weight problem.) My family supports my spiritual journey as I have 2 beds, many toys, and a backyard where I can be found enjoying the shade. I may be a little spoiled - I am an "only doggie," but I love my new home! I hope to one day write a book of reflections on my struggles and search for inner peace. Thank you to everyone at the Humane Society for your hard work, compassion, and love in the valuable service you provide for the community. Love, Rosie. from Rita on Naiche, who formerly had minimal socialization with people:: (June 2005) Sable looks great, but under all that fur he's very thin. His appetite is enormous compared to Cochise so I hope to see him fill out a little soon. I still have to approach him for his brushing, but he really enjoys it. He will lay down and fall asleep while I do it. ( 45 minutes the other day!) I attached the leash today - he didn't mind until he walked away - then he did a panic thing. I'm sure this will take awhile. He also doesn't like being shut in his crate - but we're working on it, slowly and with ice cream. Oh, and HOOOWWWWLLL! The first one was cute, immediately followed by a long one that sounded like it came from a 150 lb timber wolf!!! - can't believe that sound comes from such a little guy! . (Cochise doesn't howl) - The neighbors aren't complaining ( some think it's cool) so I hope he keeps it up. He seems to have limited it to dusk, 1 or 2 am and dawn. He's really gaining confidence! Today I took Cochise in the pen for a brief close up meeting. Cochise and I went back in the house and shortly after I heard a racket outside. I looked out the window, Sable was running into his crate, spinning around then running outside, spinning, back to the den, over and over! ( some imaginary Husky chase - who knows?) My eyes teared up with joy to see him having some fun. I've been writing "Sable" but we are calling him "Naiche"{Pronounced -nay chay} In real life, Naiche was one of Cochise's sons. (Another update on June 9, 2005) Surprise! Surprise! Underneath that timid
little guy, there is a bonafide Husky emerging! He escaped
through the gate of his temporary kennel when I went in. He ran up the
side yard and out front (It's all fenced, but I didn't know if I could
get him back in) Not to worry, big brother Cochise just herded
him back down to his kennel! Then they both stood in there with
their Husky smiles - hmmmm - these two are bound to be partners in
crime. They were playing on opposite sides of the fence. He
taught me a game also! When I shut his gate and walk away, he
bangs into it and then runs away - I do the same thing. We do this over
and over, who cares what the neighbors think, we're having a great
time! I have his new kennel all put together, We'll put him in it
Saturday after we reinforces the lower edge and builds Naiche a
throne ( I mean platform). The dynamic duo can play in
there, or scheme up some Husky adventure.
(May 2005) Zac's name is GRUMPY. I first met Grumpy in 1996 when his caretaker was charged with cruelty and neglect and I was asked to help with the removal and placement of the dogs. The local lawmakers let the woman keep six dogs. Grumpy was one of them. Periodically, over the course of the last 9 years, I have been called upon to assist with the removal of additional animals from the same location. Grumpy always remained. He was INTIMIDATING! He was always charging at the end of his heavy chain; barking, growling, snapping and snarling - his icy blue/white eyes were crossed. A few years ago Grumpy lost an eye. Not sure how. It didn't seem to slow him down. He appeared as ferocious as ever. This year the Humane Society was able to remove all remaining animals from the location. It was the beginning of the end of a horrible nightmare. It was a new beginning for the dogs, most of them young and friendly. Grumpy's future wasn't looking quite as bright. He's over ten years old, has only one good eye, and suffers from a chronic cough. He's very unfriendly, untrusting and "unadoptable". Shelter workers felt sorry for the old
dog. Euthanasia was postponed. One more time, my phone rang
for me to take in a dog. How could I refuse? Grumpy will
live out his life here. Though he could come into the house, he
is most comfortable outdoors. He has delicious food and fresh
water every day and canine companions to keep him company. He is
understood. He is loved. He is accepted for who
he is - a Grumpy old dog. Hopefully, someday, not so
grumpy. .....Theresa Update: I'm very excited to give you an update on "Grumpy". For the first time since I brought him home, he greeted me this morning. He came out of his dog house and waited expectantly and anxiously by my side for his breakfast. Due to his age I haven't been pushing it, just letting him take it all in...how excited the other dogs are to be with me, the routine, etc. His obvious pleasure at seeing me this morning comes much earlier than I ever expected. I'm thrilled. Final Update: When I adopted Grumpy from the shelter I suspected he was very ill. Unfortunately, Grumpy had advanced cancer of the spleen which had spread to his stomach and lymph nodes. After a very short stay with us, Grumpy is finally at peace. He made the transition Friday July 15, 2005. I do miss that grumpy old dog. I would like to thank the kind people at the Humane Society for putting an end to Grumpy's life of neglect, for sparing his life to give him a chance to have a "happy ending", and for caring enough to call me to ask me to adopt Grumpy. I have no regrets except that it didn't happen soon enough for him to enjoy his life. Thanks for being instrumental in the final dismantling of the neglect situation and for helping the other animals involved also. Jake - (April 2005) Hi everyone!! Just wanted to let you all know that Jake is doing SO well! He fits into our family just like he was always a part of it! He's sweet and still enjoys giving me hugs and kisses-I think that we have a special bond! The vet gave him a clean bill of health at his visit last week, so I'm delighted. My kids are in love with him and my daughter has made him a special bed all his own! (You can see it in the pictures) For someone that really didn't come in to buy a kitty-I'm thrilled that I did! Thank you for introducing me to this sweetheart-I think that we were made for each other! Hope to see you all soon-take care!! Love, Jake and his family If you have adopted an animal from the Humane Society & would like to have it included on our happy endings page, please email us.
