We become very attached to our "Furry Friends" when they come to our shelter, and want to make sure that they will be going to a home that's truly right for them.  We can never really know what some of them have been through in their time before coming to the shelter, so we want to make sure their years ahead are happy ones.  Please read their biographies to make sure you are picking the perfect animal for your family, so that you can both have years of happiness and enjoyment together.

DID YOU KNOW....
Shelter animals are known to really love their "Forever Families" once they are finally brought together.  After being without a family for so long, they are extremely grateful to finally have found you!    To read our many "Happy Ending" stories, please

Barn Cats

Got mice in your barn?
Looking to add more outdoor cats to your homestead?
Are you willing to help out some cats that just don't like being inside?

Well then we have a deal for you!

We have several cats available for adoption that just want to be outside.
They are perfectly content chasing mice or hanging out in a barn... they have no desire to come into your home...
and we respect that!
What we ask from their potential family is a commitment to give the cat suitable outdoor shelter, food and water every day.

Please call the shelter or stop down for more information.

medically Needy Animals
The Humane Society comes to the rescue of many different animals.

Sometimes our rescues and turn-over animals are physically and mentally ready to be adopted,  sometimes they need a little bit more love and care.  Whether they need a family to nurse them back to health, or work with them on their manners, there are some that just need more "one-on-one" attention than we can give at the shelter.

Sometimes we have animals considered too "old" to be adopted, and really just need a loving family to hold their paw until they cross the "Rainbow Bridge".

Depending on the situation, we have reduced fees and free veterinary care from our resident vet.

If you have room in your home and heart for an animal that really needs your love, please call the shelter or stop down for more information.

Become a Foster Parent
Interested in getting "hands-on" with our animals in the comfort of your home?  We have many opportunities for you to become a Foster Parent and help many different kinds of animals.

MEDICALLY NEEDY ANIMALS - SEE ABOVE

KITTENS & PUPPIES
- We are frequently getting little baby animals at the shelter that have been taken away from their mother earlier than they should of.  They are still weeks away from being available for adoption, and really need intensive love and care.  We need Foster Families in place to help care for these animals at home.  They need bottle-feeding and "round-the-clock" care.  The animals that we have vary on a weekly basis, so please call the shelter or stop down to start the Foster Parent process so you can make the difference to those special little animals.

IMPOLITE & UNTRAINED ANIMALS - Animals are always easier to adopt when they have basic manners and are potty-trained.  However, when they are at the shelter it's not so easy to learn when you only get out of your cage once or twice a day.

DOGS:   If you've ever had a dog that you've potty-trained, then you're probably qualified to become a Foster Parent and take home a dog for a couple weeks to give it that extra care and guidance that will make all the difference in getting that dog adopted.  We can give you advice and tips on training the dogs, all you need is the commitment to make the difference.

CATS:  Cats are peculiar creatures.  They have personalities of their own, and if they're not treated with respect and love they can become weary of all people.  We have several cats that don't get adopted simply because they don't "take to people" the way other cats do.  Sitting in a cage at the shelter isn't helping to socialize these cats, so we are looking for Foster Families to take them home, uplift their spirits, and give them a brighter outlook that will help them to get adopted.

Pet Pals For Seniors

The Humane Society recognizes the challenge of raising a puppy or kitten particularly for our senior friends. That doesn't mean that they should be without the companionship a dog or cat can give. We have created a unique adoption program for seniors (age 65+) living in our community to partner them with our senior pets (7+ years). The standard adoption fee will be cut in half. This includes licensing, a vet checkup, and up-to-date shots. We pledge to the owners and their new pet that if they ever find themselves unable to care for the pet and have run out of options, we will gladly accept the pet back at The Humane Society.

Please check Petfinder often for a list of animals that are in this program.

TOP SIX REASONS TO OWN AN OLDER PET:

  1. Older pets are housetrained.
  2. Older pets won't chew your shoes and scratch your furniture.
  3. Older pets settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others.
  4. Older pets are good at giving love once they get into a new, loving home. They are grateful for the 2nd chance.
  5. What You See Is What You Get: older pets have grown into their shape and personality.
  6. Older pets let you get a good night's sleep! They don't need nighttime comforting or bathroom breaks.
