Who We Are

German Shepherd Rescue of Dutchess County, New York, Inc., is run by a small group of volunteers who spend our spare time and own money on the specific care of these wonderful dogs. We do this for the special affection and admiration we feel for the breed but mostly for the sheer joy and pleasure of rescuing a dog and placing it in a wonderful, forever home. registration fee and adoption donations to our rescue group are used entirely for the care and placement or our dogs, i.e., Veterinary bills, Medications, food, crates, leashes, collars, etc.

Adopting a friend

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a purebred German Shepherd dog from our rescue group. We feel that to adopt a dog is a serious commitment, one we know your family has probably spent considerable time discussing. Our rescue group is just as committed to finding wonderful, forever homes for all of our **RESCUED** dogs. Toward that end, we ask for a $10.00 registration fee because we believe that by making your first donation you are letting us know you are serious about finding and adopting the right dog for your family. Upon adopting a suitable dog, your further donation of $175.00 for adult dogs up to five years of age, $125.00 for adult dogs over five years of age and $200.00 for puppies up to one year of age, enables us to continue our rescue efforts of this noble breed.

We Would Love to hear From You!

Please feel free to contact us with any and as many questions as you like regarding the dogs available for adoption and our adoption policies. While the adoption forms may at first seem cumbersome, we feel the more information you give us, the better equipped we are to match the right dog with the right home.

All of the rescued dogs in our care and currently available for adoption are living in foster homes within Dutchess County, New York. The foster families are all experienced German Shepherd dog owners and most are multi dog families.

Our petfinder site may also list dogs for owners no longer able to care for their animals. Please note that these dogs may not have been evaluated by GSRODC, NY., Inc., so we cannot therefore make any recommendations as to their suitability for adoption. We urge potential adopters to use extreme caution when meeting these dogs for the first time.

We look forward to receiving your completed application forms. Upon receipt we will check your references and then contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time you to meet one or all of our dogs. To confirm the details of your application form, we will arrange a home visit and if all is well you will then be free to pick up your new best friend.
