Lucy's Story

Lucy is a buff colored 10+ year old cocker. She is so tiny and precious. Lucy was born with bowed short legs but gets around fine. The pet store wanted to put her down because of her legs but Lucy's Mom saw past her crippled legs and gave her a loving home.

Lucy's Mom could no longer keep her as she had to go live with her daughter and pets were not allowed there. Cocker Pals took Lucy in and she now has a loving, permanent foster home in upstate New York.

UPDATE 9/19/06

Lucy is a true Diva. Her first owner loved, cherished and spoiled this little girl. She is happy and well adjusted. We are enjoying her immensely. I was given the email address of the friend who talked Lucy's mommy into getting her into rescue. I emailed her to let her know Lucy was safe and would live out the rest of her years here with us. She told me Lucy's mommy had made the appointment with the vet and had her grave dug.

She also said Lucy loves being wrapped in a towel and held and cuddled like a baby after her bath. So I made sure that is what I did last night when she had her bath. She nestled right in so sweet. She pitter patters from room to room, it is hard to describe. We have little carpeting here because of fosters in and out and keeping things clean, so you can hear her when she is coming.

This little soul just lights up a room.

She was probably born with dwarfism. It explains the shortened deformed legs etc. She does not know at all that she looks any different than any of the the others, except she sure lets us know what she wants.

UPDATE 10/15/06

Lucy has a tumor between the pads of her bottom front foot. Her vet feels it is contained, and movable, all good signs. It has grown in the last week, and he does not want it getting any bigger. We will be having it removed on 10/18. Please keep this little sweetie in your prayers. He will biopsy it, but is optimisitic that it is not cancer.

Lucy's tumor is benign!

UPDATE 02/26/07

Lucy had the tumor removed from the pads of her foot in Oct. In spite of her difficulty walking, she recovered completely from the surgery, and gets around fine now. She has also battled yeast infections in both ears since she came here. Finally after treating her several times, her one ear is infection free. Her other ear has a broken ear drum, and continues to need daily cleaning. However we can keep her pain free and comfy with the cleaning, and she hasn't needed any new antibiotics since Jan. It is something we are always going to have to keep on top of. She continues to be our little Diva, sweet and loving and cuddly, with a bit of sass.
