LEAVE A LEGACY

PLANNED GIFTS & BEQUESTS

Your planned gift or bequest will help the Douglas Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) to provide a stable future for homeless animals resident at the Douglas County animal shelter. Since 2001, DAWG has, directly or indirectly, placed over 1,000 homeless animals in permanent homes.

WILLS & BEQUESTS

When you name DAWG in your will or living trust, you make an important gift that enables DAWG to educate the community about responsible pet ownership and engage in other projects that provide positive benefits to the animals, owners and citizens. You can designate DAWG as the recipient of a percentage or fixed amount of cash from your estate, a piece of real or personal property, or stock portfolio.

LIFE INCOME GIFTS

The charitable remainder trust is a popular and proven option that allows you to irrevocably place money, stocks, or property into a tax-exempt trust and receive income, generally for life. A trustee (usually a community foundation or bank) pays you either a fixed amount (annuity trust) or a percentage of the trust principal (unitrust). You receive a charitable tax deduction for the present value of assets placed in the trust, and at the end of a specified number of years, DAWG receives the remainder of the trust.

RETIREMENT PLANS

Many people may have accumulated a substantial amount of money in their 401(k), 403(b), 457, regular IRA, Roth IRA retirement/pension account, variable annuities, and/or other type of accounts. By naming DAWG as the beneficiary, you might avoid some taxes and support our continuting work with the animals and educational efforts in the community.

LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES

When an insurance policy is no longer needed to safeguard a family or business, it can benefit DAWG. You can designate DAWG as a beneficiary of your policy, with all or part of the policy proceeds going to DAWG at time of death. Or you can receive a charitable tax deduction by naming DAWG as both the owner and beneficiary of a paid-up policy. By donating a policy on which you continue to pay premiums, you can receive a charitable tax deduction for those premiums each year. Additionally, you can assign your annual dividends to DAWG or you can choose to obtain a new policy for the benefit of DAWG.

Please consult with your attorney, professional tax advisor and investment advisor about the possible tax benefits of any planned gift and or bequests.. If you wish to make this type of donation or want more information about Douglas Animal Welfare Group, please call (775) 267-7325.
