We believe that euthanasia must be eliminated as a means of controlling pet overpopulation and that an aggressive spay/neuter program is the only way to stop the killing of innocent creatures who have had to fend for themselves, or have been  neglected or abused. A major effort has been made to encourage the public to have their animals "fixed." Our clinic facility spays or neuters all adopted animals as prescribed by law and offers spay/neuter services at a greatly reduced rate to low-income families five days per week.

We do not pre-qualify our clients financially for this program but we do ask for proof of residency (driver’s license or recent utility bill). If you are a neighboring resident outside of our Rio Arriba community, we are happy to offer low-cost clinic services at a slightly higher cost, but significantly lower than you would find at veterinary clinics. Additionally, you may want to call the shelter in your area to see if they offer low-cost programs.

In addition, we offer a low-cost shot clinic, which provides vaccinations for parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies. Please call the shelter for more information about the shot clinic.

We enforce the State Sterilization Act and will charge a $25 fee for un-altered claimed animals. This fee will be reimbursed once the animal is spayed/neutered and provided with proof thereof. You may choose to utilize our clinic services or your veterinarian of choice. An owner will have 30 days from the date the animal is released to comply with the State Sterilization Act or the $25 will be forfeited.
