We believe that euthanasia must be
eliminated as a means of controlling pet overpopulation and that an
aggressive spay/neuter program is the only way to stop the killing of
innocent creatures who have had to fend for themselves, or have been neglected or abused. A major effort has been made to
encourage the public to have their animals "fixed." Our clinic facility
spays or neuters all adopted animals as prescribed by law and offers
spay/neuter services at a greatly reduced rate to low-income families five
days per week.
We do not pre-qualify our clients financially for this program but we do ask
for proof of residency (driver’s license or recent utility bill). If you are
a neighboring resident outside of our Rio Arriba community, we are happy to
offer low-cost clinic services at a slightly higher cost, but significantly
lower than you would find at veterinary clinics. Additionally, you may want
to call the shelter in your area to see if they offer low-cost programs.
In addition, we offer a low-cost shot clinic,
which provides vaccinations for parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies.
Please call the shelter for more information about the shot clinic.
