BECOME A FOSTER HOME |

Being a foster home for a rescue or shelter is one REALLY important job. With so many dogs out there needing homes there really aren't ever enough people willing to open their homes and hearts to homeless little pooches. What is a fosterhome? Well, it's like babysitting a dog until a home can be found for them. Of course, fosterhomes are more important and more work than this makes it sound like, but that's the basic idea. By becoming a foster home for a Chihuahua you open up WORLDS of possibilities. If there is a Chihuahua that needs a little time to adjust to having people around, or a Chihuahua that needs to learn that people can be wonderful a fosterhome provides a safe and loving environment for them to learn in. If there is an elderly Chihuahua that needs a safe quiet place to rest for a while before finding a new home, or if there is an injured/ill Chihuahua that needs time to rest and recuperate a foster home lets them heal in a healthy, loving environment. If there is a Chihuahua who thinks that everyone will hurt him/her a fosterhome allows that little dog to learn that humans don't always hurt animals, and that they can trust us. A scared Chihuahua will resort to biting or snapping when they feel extremely threatened. Many shelters don't have the room to keep them separate from the other dogs, which means they're placed in the same area as many of the larger dogs who are loud, and well as in areas where people are staring and fussing over them all the time. Most shelters don't want to place a dog that is snappy or will bite if it feels threatened, and so many Chihuahuas are put to sleep because they are deemed unadoptable. There ARE Chihuahuas out there that are unadoptable because of biting, but many of these little ones that are put to sleep are simply scared and need a quiet place where they feel safe before they can show you just what a great dog they are. Anyone that knows Chihuahuas knows how scared they can be of things they don't understand......can YOU imagine what they must think when their owner takes them to a loud place that sounds and smells like a bunch of other dogs and then LEAVES them there alone? I think I'd be scared out of my mind too! Foster homes are greatly needed! Dogs are held at a rescuers home until they are evaluated. Dogs that pass evaluation will be sent to a fosterhome that can handle the needs of that specific dog. You will be asked if you can foster when we have a dog that is matched with what you can handle and what they need. You can ALWAYS say no for any reason at all, or no reason for that matter. You are not committed to fostering because you fill out this form....feel free to say no at any time. If you would be interested in becoming a foster home for CNWH, and helping to care for the Chihuahuas in the areas we cover (NJ/NY/DE/PA/MD) please fill out the following form and submit it to us. The following form allows us to get to know you, and get to know more about your home environment. This information helps us to know what types of Chihuahuas could use you as a foster home, as well as what experience you have with these little angels. We look forward to hearing from you, and we will be in contact shortly. If you don't hear from us for a few days please email us , as we're really busy during this time of year, and may be swamped with rescue calls and e-mail. Thanks !! If you'd like to volunteer to help CNWH in other ways (or in addition to fostering) why not fill out our
