While many people have heard of puppy mills they may believe
that we don't have that kind of problem in the Philadelphia/South
Jersey area. Recent articles from local area newspapers would
tend to disprove this theory. Below is a summary of these
articles along with links that point to the articles in their
entirety as are pictures of the kennel mentioned in
the Burlington County Times articles.

mentioned in the articles below.
The following story is from the Trentonian:
Updated as of October 17, 2001:
On August 28, 2001 "Kennel owner charged with cruelty" and again on
August 29, 2001 "Kennel owner's license revoked" the Burlington County
Times reported that the Burlington County Health Department had shut
down an allegedly cruel and dirty dog kennel. The department revoked
the kennel owner's operating license.
The owner, Charles Guthrie, was charged with several counts of animal cruelty by the SPCA.
Charges against Guthrie include a lack of food, water and medical attention for the dogs, poor
ventilation and improper shelter, officials said.
On April 15, 2000 "Dog store owner loses two cases over pups" and again on
April 16, 2000 "Pet store settles 3rd case in N.J." the Bucks County
Courier Times reported on court proceedings of Mr.Guthrie and his
wife Debbie who were answering to complaints in two different courts
on the same day.
While the Guthrie's may have been shut down in Burlington
Township, it is more than likely that have moved their operation to
a new location and are conducting business as usual in a new
location.
