This is a full size, adult male Doberman Pinscher. This dog was seized by the cruelty agents due to severe neglect. This dog should have easily weighted 95-100 pounds. When agents rescued him he weighted barely 56. As you can see, he was severely emaciated, to the point where he had no body fat. One purpose of body fat is to cushion bones, since he had no insulating layer of fat, when he laid down his bones tore through the skin causing the open wounds seen in the pictures.

This dog is an adult male Mastiff mix who used to top the scales at 175 pounds. He weighted 67 pounds when investigators took him from the same property. Their owner was prosecuted by the SPCA and found guilty of cruelty. The dogs were released to the custody of the SPCA, where they were fattened up and adopted to a new loving home.

This was a property agents were called about where there were over 100 cats residing. The cats were left outside, not fed properly, and received no vet care. The owner told investigators that when they moved in they brought their 4 cats with them...after many litters of kittens and year or so later they had over 100 cats on the property. Just feeding these animals was taking every penny they had, and they didn't know who to call for help. The SPCA offered assistance, and has to date removed 88 cats & kittens from this property. The kitten on the right is just one of many animals seized from this location. The weeping of the eyes & nose are caused by respiratory infections that spread rapidly in a cat population, among various other diseases that are very common in cat colonies. The owner of the property was charged with cruelty for not providing vet care and other items for these animals, and plead guilty.

The dog above called this home until investigators were informed of the situation. They allowed the owner one day to remove the trash and debris from the dogs area, and the owner complied. He was also charged with allowing an animal to live in unsanitary conditions and plead guilty. The St. Bernard is now living in a trash free environment.

These two dogs were discovered by the agents when a passerby called the SPCA concerned for their welfare. The owner has quite a history with the SPCA for just this reason. This dog was malnourished and had intestinal parasites that a simple trip to the vet would have cured. The picture on the right is the same dog as the left.

The dog in the center had only a broken apart carrier for a shelter during rainy, 20° weather. The dogs were seized by the SPCA and the owner prosecuted. The owner was found guilty of cruelty. The dogs were released to the custody of the SPCA, and as you can see they were care for and fattened up until they were healthy.

This is a little poodle mix weighing in at about 20 pounds. The poor little dogs' coat was so matted it was hard for it to move. The owner was informed of the seriousness of this, and the need for regular grooming for dogs with this type of hair. The owner had the dogs groomed , and still has them today. She was found guilty of failing to properly keep a dog, allowing fur to matt to the skin. The dog is now regularly groomed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the left is an ostrich that was left to fend for itself when it's owner no longer cared to feed and water him. He had two pen mates, but neither of them survived as you can see from the picture on the right. The owner was prosecuted and found guilty, and the ostrich has since found a home with others of his kind where he will live his remaining life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is Mary, a wonderfully sweet loving dog. This was Mary's living quarters for quite a while before someone contacted the SPCA about her situation. Mary left with the agents the day this photo was taken, and her owners were prosecuted for not providing necessary shelter from the weather. Mary has since left the shelter.

This is a little Yorkie mix pup who was left outside in the snow with just his carrier and a little blanket. This pup decided he liked the inside of the investigators' vehicle much better (it was heated!) and so he left with them. The owner later admitted that he had enough animals to deal with (including goats, pigs, ducks, and other dogs) and released custody of the pup to the SPCA, where he was much sought after quickly adopted out.
