The PAN FAQ
Q: What exactly does Pet Adoption Network do?
A: Pet Adoption Network is a non-profit organization with 501c3 status. We are a small group of people who "foster" homeless dogs and cats in our own homes until a permanent home can be found. Sometimes an animal is not in good shape physically and/or emotionally when it comes to us. When this is the case, we provide medical care, spaying, neutering and vaccinations, socializing, and training.
Q: How is PAN funded?
A: PAN relies mostly on donations from individuals, and our adoption fees. We also hold yard sales several times a year to raise additional funds. Look under "donations" in our menu to learn how you can help with yard sales.
Q: Where do PAN animals come from?
A: PAN animals come mainly from three sources: some are surrendered by their owners who
can't keep them any longer, others are strays rescued from the streets by our volunteers,
and others we pull from kill shelters when their "time runs out". All animals are
carefully evaluated before being placed for adoption.
Q: How come PAN sometimes has no dogs in the pet list?
A: For most of our fifteen-year history, PAN has been an active and established dog rescue organization.
If we don't have dogs, it means we don't have foster homes available. At this time, in 2007, we have no dog foster homes
at all. It is difficult to find good foster homes for dogs. You must have experience, time, and space (usually a fenced yard).
We are actively looking for more foster homes and/or some kennel space for dogs. So if you know anyone who might be
interested, keep us in mind!
Q: Do veterinarians help PAN animals for free?
A: Many people are under the impression that we receive free vet care, but we do not. There are several veterinarians in our area who have been very generous in providing discounts to PAN, but we still have vet bills.
Q: What if I find a stray animal, or have a pet I need to give
up for adoption? Can PAN help me?
A: Since we are a no-kill organization, we can only take an animal when we have an opening. There is no guarantee we can take an animal from everyone who contacts us. Our volunteers try to provide people with advice that may enable them to keep their pet, rather than giving it up for adoption. So feel free to contact us by email (below) if you need advice about a problem with your pet.
If you have some time to find a new home for your pet, or a homeless animal you rescued, you may be eligible to participate in one of our adoption events. Please e-mail us to learn how you can participate at PANinc@att.net
