FIRST MEMORY
It is often said that you should always stick with your first instinct. I have often times found this to be true as changing my mind at times has caused me to be left wondering why I didn't remember this concept. There is something to be said also about our first experiences and the memories that go along with them. After all, we do ordinarily remember our "firsts" pretty well. If there is a place we like to go to on vacation, we can speak in detail about our first time there. Yes, "first' memories are often accurate and have an impact on our life.
Try to recall the first time you looked face to face with one of our canine companions in life. If you love dogs today, you can probably recall this encounter with fond memories. Chances are you looked with wonder at a happy face, one that wanted to share his happiness with you. You probably also saw a face that longed to love and to give love for as long as possible with no conditions.
You more than likely saw one of God's most glorious creations and the relationship he intended for us to have with the dogs He puts into our life.
As much as we may remember our "first" memories it is not often the case that we continue the same level of enthusiasm. This applies to almost all of our relationships and sadly we can easily become very "used" to one another.
This does not happen though as our canine friends see us. They always greet us with the same level of enthusiasm as they do the first time. It becomes a lesson to learn from them to apply to all of our relationships but we should specifically remember it about how we react to them. They deserve the same level of excitement from us as they provide to us. We have had some difficult times in our country the last couple of years with the events of September 11 and the two recent hurricane disasters.
Although we can not do much to avoid these types of things in our world, we can adjust our attitudes to bring us back to the joy of our "first experiences" more often.
