Tigger and Butchie (Spot)- A double adoption
This is a wonderful success story.  We adopted Tigger to a couple who met him and several others at one of our adoption days around September of 2007.  They met Spot the same day, but decided that they could only handle one at a time.  Tigger had spent most of the first year of his life in a crate because his owner worked long hours and couldn't take care of him.  She eventually dropped him off at the shelter in the hope that he would find a good home.  Tigger was a high energy dog who loved to play, but he had a calm mode too and was very affectionate and docile most of the time.  They reported that Tigger did very well and had become a member of the family.  As the months passed, they remembered Spot and asked about him a few times.  They were concerned about how he was doing and had intended to get Tigger a playmate after they had gotten him settled in.  Spot had been with us for a long time.  He had been very wild at first but settled down over time.  He was a favorite of everyone at the shelter, but there was always a concern that he would be put down when the shelter started filling up.  In January of 2008 the shelter was very full, Tigger's adopters came back and we introduced him to his old kennel-mate, Spot.  It went well enough at the shelter that they decided to give it a try.  After some work, Tigger and Butchie (Spot) are best buddies.

From the adopter: "I just wanted to thank you for bringing Spot's situation to our attention.  I don't know if you heard, but Tig & Spot are getting along great so far.  Spot is a real sweetheart.  All four of us go for a morning walk every day before work, and we just got a brand new fence for the backyard which Tig loves!!  We're so happy that we could adopt both of these great dogs!  We got off to a ruff start, but now we're best friends!!  We even went to obedience class together!"

Eve
Eve was brought to the shelter by someone who found her wandering the streets. She was a mere 30 pounds when she came into the shelter and you could see every bone in her body. Eve had several open sores on her tummy and back. After spending several weeks in the shelter and with one of our foster moms, she made it to her forever home.

From the adopter: "Evie is doing great! She has gained enough weight that she is now at her normal weight. Evie is the most spoiled dog in the world. She also has to be the smartest dog as well. I crated her in the beginning due to her separation anxiety but she soon figured out how to get out of her crate no matter how I tried to secure it. Now that she is not crated, she spends the days lounging on the couch while I am at work. On several occasions, she has figured out how to turn on the television. I am not sure what she has gone through before she came to the shelter, but she has several phobias that we are working to overcome (water, flashlights, etc). Whenever I am not home, one of my parents always stop by to check up on Evie. She is their first and only "granddaughter" so you know she is spoiled. They even take her out on their boat! (Of course, she has to wear her life jacket.)

Betty
Betty was with us for a while.  She came in with scars and signs that she had been used for breeding and had been in some fights.  She was naturally fearful of other dogs and initially would lash out when other dogs were close.  Volunteers worked with her and over time she became very tolerant of other dogs, choosing to focus her attention on her handler rather than other dogs.  She was one of the most affectionate dogs that we have had and just loved to climb into a person's lap.

From the adopter: "Just wanted to let you know Betty has adjusted well to her new home.  We are enjoying her very much.  Your assessment of her was right on, although I must say I was leary.  She is just a love.  Still unsure of her social skills with other dogs, but hopefully that will be ok as time goes on.  May all your dogs be like Betty, and may they all find a loving home.  She has been with us now for 2 months and you would think it was 2 years."
