Hearts and Paws provides a safe haven for rescued animals awaiting loving adoptive families.

In Loving Memory of Sandy Beach
from 2005 Holiday Newsletter

Sandy BeachThis past May we said a final "goodbye" to a vitally important volunteer, supporter and most of all, friend: Sandy Lee Beach.

Over the years that we knew her, she fostered hundreds of cats and kittens. She was a "miracle worker" with sick kittens when the odds were against them. One such baby, Frankie (from the now-closed Garden State Park) was extremely emaciated and almost no fur. Sandy nursed her night and day and night. Frankie is now a beautiful Calico living the "good life" with her adopted family.

Another baby, Parry Cake, was taken to be fostered at three days old. When she was old enough for adoption, she came back to Hearts and Paws but soon had to be returned to "Mommy Sandy" to live forever.

Passionate as Sandy was about helping animals, she was just as caring about children. One of our favorite stories was how her roommate could not find gloves, a scarf or hat to wear while snow shoveling. Sandy had taken them all to school to give to her students, who had none!

Sandy had many friends, some for as long as 40 years, who all admired her for her support of those less fortunate than she. She often called on her many friends to help support Hearts & Paws which freed us from fundraising to spend more time caring for sick animals and finding wonderful homes for our "fur-balls".

There will always be a place in our hearts for Sandy and there will always be a namesake for her here - a little "Sandy" for adoption!

We will miss you, Sandy!
