Senator
Sheila Roberge
Initially elected to the New Hampshire Senate in 1984, Senator Roberge
is currently serving her tenth term representing District 9. She
currently is the "Dean of the Senate", the longest serving Senator.
Prior to that she was a staff member to Senator Gordon Humphrey.
This was preceded by positions as the fiscal agent & Manchester
area chairperson for former Governor Meldrim Thomson &, from
1976-1978, as appointment secretary for Governor Thomson.
During her career, she has worked to further the humane treatment
of animals & to reduce overpopulation. In 1992, she was the
prime sponsor of SB 402, the first attempt to establish a state-funded
neutering assistance program. When that legislation was killed in
the House of Representatives, she launched an initiative to garner
support for reintroduction of that bill the following year. Her
commitment in this effort has directly contributed to the reduction
in animal overpopulation within the state. She also has worked to
pass groundbreaking animal protection legislation in every session
including: laws protecting dogs from traveling in pick-up trucks,
laws making certain types of animal cruelty a felony, & a law
requiring shelter for dogs that are restrained outside. She will
chair the ARL-NH’s Governmental Affairs Committee & will serve
on both the Special Events & the Volunteers Committees.
