About J&J's Homeless Pet Rescue

J and J's Homeless Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization and now has its 501(c)3 tax exempt status. We depend solely on public donations and adoption fees for financial survival. No contribution is too small, and your donations are tax-deductible! We have no paid employees. Contributions, fund raising and our own personal out-of-pocket money is how we take care of all the animals.

We are the only non-profit rescue in Beaufort County that currently houses animals for adoption. All the animals in our care receive everything they need as far as medical care, food, shelter, flea and tick prevention and heartworm prevention.

11-16-08   MEET XENA   This little baby girl was found on Gallberry Road in Washington, NC and the woman brought her here this evening. She was covered in fleas and lice and looks to have mange. She is also starving. So far she has eaten 3 small jars of Gerber baby food and drank some water. Have put tobramycin antibiotic eye drops in her matted eyes and given her a flea bath. Her ears  are infected and crusty. She seems more comfortable now and is sleeping.

This will be another tough save if she makes it. I think she only weighs about 2-3 lbs.  Please pray for her and if you can spare a bit of a

11-18-08     Little Xena is back home from the vet. Vet asked "how much work do you want to put into her"? I told her "everything you need to do." Xena's appetite is hearty! She has mange ( vet thinks sarcoptic) but did not do scrapings as her skin is already so fragile.

She got her first dip, antibiotics and wormer. Still getting the drops in her eyes and they are open just a bit more this evening. She is now stretched out in her little bed and not curled up in a little ball any longer. I've got a little heater next to her crate so she will stay warm.

She woke up yapping and wagging her tail.  She then feasted on kibble and baby food mix.  I think she is gonna make it.

This little one is a fighter even though only about 4-5 weeks old. I was told tonight that she went up to the woman that found her and put her feet on the door of her car asking for help. The woman brought her here.Xena

11-24-08     Little Xena has been here 8 days now and she sure has come a long way!  You should have seen her playing tonight.  It is a miracle!

11-29-08     Xena has done remarkably well in the short time we have had her. Today she is very playful. She has attached herself to Jim and its so sweet to watch her as she runs after him. She is still gaining strength and her appetite is good. She sleeps more peacefully now. She has been wormed again, still on albon and antibiotics. Xena would not have survived if she had not been found when she was.

Meet Bear

Bear was pulled  from a Chapel Hill, NC animal shelter in October 2007. He is approximately 3-4 years old and ADORES people. He initially was very skinny but is now about 80-85 lbs, the proper weight for a purebred German Shepherd. He has been treated for heartworm and is now on prevention. Bear is now neutered, healthy and ready for his forever home.  This is one terrific dog that deserves a terrific family to love.

Look how healthy and handsome Bear is now!

Bear June 08 - Happy, healthy &
ready for his forever home

 Special Microchip Project

We'd like nothing better than for all lost pets to make it safely home – and a significant step toward that goal is the ability to implant and detect microchips in all pets in our system. To that effect J and J's Homeless Pet Rescue has started a program through PetPoint data base management to microchip animals prior to adoption. This will be accomplished through 24PetWatch. This program is now up and running. Every animal adopted from J and J's Homeless Pet Rescue now also has a 30 day gift of Pet Health Insurance through Shelter Care included with every adoption. We think this is a wonderful gift to our new adoptive families.

J & J's  Building Fund

Land wanted to build a real sanctuary for homeless animals! We are looking for a suitable piece of property to be donated on which to build our rescue facility. If you know of a space that would be just right please contact us. J and J's is already accepting donations for our building fund. Beaufort County, NC needs a rescue sanctuary for homeless unwanted pets. This will be a no kill facility licensed by the State of North Carolina. We would love to be able to house over 100 animals in this new facility. As much as we would like to save all the homeless unwanted pets, with over 3,000 a year going through the local shelter, there is no way to save them all. We are looking forward to the day that we can have a rescue sanctuary where we can house and care for many more unwanted homeless pets. This is a huge undertaking and will require a lot of fund raising and support from the Beaufort County community. With your help J and J's can make this dream come true.

3000 animals are euthanized each year just in Beaufort County because of lack of education and funding for spay/neuter. Another goal of J and J's is to educate and provide funding to help facilitate spay/neuter. The plan for the rescue sanctuary includes a spay/neuter clinic. It is another huge project but again with your help can be made possible.

Transport Volunteers NEEDED!

Transport Volunteers Always Needed!
J and J needs your help! Please let us know you'd be willing to help transport animals from shelters to safety of a rescue or to their new adoptive home. J and J has been expanding its network of rescues & desperately needs volunteers to help with life saving transport.

Please call or email us to learn more about how you can help. Recently a volunteer for J and J's rescued an English Cocker Spaniel from a shelter in South Carolina. She now lives the good life here thanks to transporters with huge hearts.

  • 11/24/08 Just in time for Thanksgiving!  A GREAT BIG THANK YOU goes out to The Pedigree Foundation for the $1700 donation from their Pedigree Adoption Drive campaign.  We can not thank them enough for helping so many of our needy animals with their medical expenses.

  • 5/8/08 Thank You to the Petco Foundation for their award of $500 once again this year to help the animals here at J and J.  This is the second year in a row they have donated to our cause.

  • HUGE THANK YOU to Bayer Health Care Animal Health Division for about $3000 worth of Advantage/Advantix to help keep the fleas/ticks/mosquitoes away.

With each NEW referral to H and R Block, they will donate $25 to J and J's Homeless Pet Rescue! Must present the referral coupon to their tax return specialist prior to completion of your taxes.

  • 9/1/2007 The Wal-mart Foundation made a $1000 donation to help the animals at J and J's Homeless Pet Rescue. ASanta and local celebrity Harley huge thank you goes out to Wal-mart for their continued support of our rescue effort!

  • And again, we want to extend a Big Thank You to our local Wal-mart of Washington for their continued donation of their broken bags of dog food and dented cans to help feed the animals here at J and J. The food donations make our rescue dollars go so much further.

  • Thank you to Santa and the Alligoods for hosting our annual Santa on the Porch event! Thanks to all who attended and gave so generously. Approximately $200 in donations and another $200 worth of dog food and treats were donated at last year's annual event at the Alligood's. Local celebrity Harley pictured here with Saint Nick."   (By the way, Harley is moving to Arkansas with his brothers and sisters. So we lose two of our best volunteers and Harley. Sad to see Harley and the Allgoods move to Arkansas. We'll miss them! On the up side they are also taking Dutchess the pitbull with them. They have been fostering for us and love her so much, they can not give her up. Happy that Duchess found such a great forever home! )

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to each and every one of you for your help and support! We couldn't have accomplished all that we have, without you! You are true heroes!
