Conceived
in 1996, Catman2 is managed by Dr. Harold Sims, a retired college
biology professor and his wife,Kay, a retired school social worker. The
cats live in a large shelter adjacent to the Sims’ home in
Cullowhee, North Carolina. (See our new shelter)
Tours of the shelter
are available by appointment. We house more than 60 cats at most times
of the year, and are sure to have “The Cat if your Dreams”.
Because of the costs of transportation and stress on the cats, we only
arrange adoptions in Western North Carolina and the surrounding area,
except in extraordinary cases.
We
also offer a “matching service”. If we do not have the cat
you are looking for, we will contact other shelters in an attempt to
find the right cat for you. There will be an adoption fee or service
charge expected if we locate the cat for you.
ADOPTION FEES
Our adoption fee is a
flat rate of $70.00. In the case of a stray or a shelter rescued
cat this amount is less than the cost of Vet. work.
Subsequent feeding and housing the cat until it is adopted add to
the cost and result in a negative cash flow. Some cats may be
“donated” to us with all required Vet. procedures in place.
These cats provides us with a positive cash flow that helps set off the
cost of “found” cats. Donations in excess of the adoption
fee are appreciated.
HOW CAN YOU HELP ?
The
new shelter is now completed but more work and money will be needed to
complete the dream. This would include: a larger sanctuary, space to
shelter feral cats with the hope they could be tamed and a shelter for
cats positive for feline leukemia and “so called” feline
aids. In the mean time volunteers are needed to help with the daily
feeding and cleaning of the existing shelter and donations will be
appreciated to help pay the costs of food, heat, cooling and other
everyday expenses. If everyone reading this were to send us an envelope
containing a dollar bill (or more) it would go a long way to help us
meet our expenses.[
CONTACT US
We
welcome visitors to our shelter and you need not feel you have to adopt
a cat. The cats need to see other people as a part of their
socialization process. Please call for an appointment if you are
interested.
Adoptions
are sometimes made off campus. In the past we transported cats to
Brevard, North Carolina to display them at the Humane Society Thrift
Shop. We can do this again in the future if there is a demand. We also
own an adoption trailer outfitted for adoption at Craft Fairs and other
public events and would be happy to come to your event if you invite
us. The trailer provides a safe venue for adoptions where there is
little chance for cats to escape.
Our web host provides you with two months of free pet insurance.
We offer a return policy and, upon return of the cat, will refund your adoption fee or let you try another cat.
If
you become ill or for some other reason can no longer keep your cat we
will offer to take it back and find it a new home. In the case of death
we might be able to negotiate a payment that would ensure you your cat
would be cared for until placed in a new home or kept in our sanctuary
for life.
Any way you look at it… an adoption from Catman-2 is a win-win situation.
