This year Catman2 will not have a quilt raffle. Something new is in the works.
“THE PAINTED CAT SALE AND ART AUCTION”
Most of you have seen brightly painted animals on the streets of local towns. Cherokee, NC has bears and in another town there were painted pigs. I have found a source of life-size un-painted cats and the plan is: Find sponsors for each cat - sponsors could be an interested individual, family, organization or business. The cost of the blank cats will depend on how many cats we order at a time. If we can find enough sponsors the cost could be less than $100.00. Once the cats arrive, we need talented artists to paint them in such a way that people will want to own them. The painted cats will be on display in shop windows all over western North Carolina. This is to be an area-wide project. In the fall we will have an auction and sell the cats and other items of fine art, to the highest bidder. All proceeds will go to support the cats.
We need people to sponsor a cat, artists to paint it, an auction house (In Asheville) to sponsor the auction and… we need people to bid on these cats and other donated items. Your Painted Cat will be a treasure for life and a visual memory that will live on to inspire others to support the Catman2 mission.

I’d like to have no less than 50 cats, more if possible. When we reach the goal we ask sponsors for payment, order cats and let the painting begin! We will advertise sponsors and artists in many ways.
We also need donations of fine art to sell along with the cats. This can be paintings, pottery, sculpture or anything artsy. Please contact us now. And spread the word - we need to make this a premiere event for Catman2!

Kevin "The Helpful Vampire Cat"
Official Mascot of Catman2
On October 9, 2011, Kevin, beloved former resident of the Catman2 Shelter and inspiration to author, Dr. Harold W. Sims, has posthumously been made the official mascot of Catman2, Inc.
Kevin arrived at the shelter as a young kitten. He and his three sisters were feral. Two of the sisters were, in time, adopted and went to live on a farm. Today their fate is unknown. Kevin and his sister, Taffy, remained in the shelter. Both lived in a semi-feral existence but Kevin took it upon himself to become a helpful ambassafor and mentor to all new cats that came to Catman2. Although it may seem anthropomorphic to some, everyone who knew Kevin saw him as a friend to all new cats. Until he aged and his two upper canine teeth protruded, no one made much of his mission. The name "Vampire Cat" started as a joke, but soon Kevin was given the name "Kevin the Helpful Vampire Cat".
Kevin passed away about two years ago but his legacy lives on in the three books Harold has written about him. "Kevin the Helpful Vampire Cat", "Kevin Tames the Bullies", and "How to Make Your Dreams Come True". He has also been immortalized by the creation of a doll in his image.
This fall, a Kevin package deal will be made available as a Christmas present to inspire all children to follow in Kevin's footsteps and become helpful and kind, and dream of a way to make the world a better place. A plush doll in his likeness will accompany his trilogy. Watch our web page for an announcement of availability and cost. Kevin will enlighten them, inspire them, and make all readers better members of the human race, inspired by the teaching of a tiny insignificant cat that lived his life to help others. In the third book, Kevin and his friends ask Catman to write a story about his dream to build their shelter. Catman tells the story saying that if you have a dream, you can make it come true if your dream is realistic and you work hard toward your goal.
Kevin Tames The Bullies
Kevin Tames The Bullies tells the story about the time some of the shelter cats tease and bully Kevin by making fun of his rather long teeth. Some of the bullies are the same cats Kevin helped adjust to living in the shelter. Kevin is hurt. He befriended them and now they tease him for something he has no control over. At first Kevin wants to fight back. "I'll show them," he says to himself. Then he stops and thinks. "If I fight and beat them up, I will be a bully too." So Kevin comes up with a plan - a non-violent way to solve the problem. He executes his plan and the bullies see things in a different way. They learn that being different isn't one's fault. They come together and say, "Let us end this helter skelter and live together in Catman's shelter." Peace and friendship returns and all are happy.

Kevin The Helpful Vampire Cat is the first of a trilogy of books written to inspire young children to be kind and helpful to others and to inspire dreamers to become doers. This is the story about a very sweet tabby cat that earned the name "Vampire Cat" when his two upper canine teeth elongated as he aged. But Kevin is not your typical vampire. Rather than going around saying, "I Vant Your Blood," his motto is: "Don't ask what others can do for you - ask what you can do for others". So he becomes Kevin the Helpful Vampire Cat and helps all new cats coming to the shelter adjust to life there. He asks little for himself and gives love and comfort to all the cats he meets. is my
first book. It tells the story of Catman2 Inc. It is the story of
a
retired biology professor who, upon seeing the need for a no-kill cat
shelter, comes out
of retirement and makes his dream come true by building the largest and
most
cat friendly shelter in Western North Carolina. The four thousand
square foot
building houses cats in a home-like environment where cats are
liberated from cages and roam free in large rooms with things to
climb upon,
beds to sleep in, and cubby holes to hide in if one wants a little
solitude.
The book, 114 pages long, contains stories of daring rescues of cats in
need,
tales of special cats that once lived in the shelter, and accounts
of
adoptions that saved many cats from certain death at government
pounds,
cats living in abandoned campgrounds, and ones with disabilities

surely would have experienced a life of deprivation had they not

Our Cats come with satisfaction or a full refund!
All our cats have been to a vet for a physical exam. They are tested for feline leukemia to ensure they are negative. Shots for rabies and distemper vaccinations are given. We also vaccinate for feline leukemia when appropriate. Most cats are already spayed or neutered and some are declawed. We provide assistance for neutering when not already spayed or neutered. Our fee of $80.00 is fully refundable upon the return of the cat if you and/or your cat are not compatible. All you have to do is take the cat home and enjoy. The CATMAN has done all the work for you and you will not find a better deal. We also include a free identification service to help locate your cat in case it gets lost. CATMAN has the cat of your dreams, free advice and questions will be answered upon request for the life of you pet. You and your cats satisfaction is our goal.
