CITY OF MONCTON ANIMAL CONTROL BY-LAW #H-202

RESPONSIBILITIES OF OWNERS

  1. The owner of an animal shall ensure that such animal shall not
    1. bite a person or persons whether on the property of the owner or not;
    2. do any other act to injure a person or persons whether on the property of the owner or not;
    3. chase or otherwise threaten a person or persons whether on the property of the owner or not, unless the person chased or threatened is a trespasser on the property of the owner;
    4. be running at large;
    5. bark, howl or otherwise disturb any person;
    6. cause damage to property or other animal(s);
    7. upset any waste receptacle or scatter the contents thereof either in or about a street, lane, or other public property or in or about permises not belonging to or in the possession of the owner of the animal;
    8. be left unattended in any motor vehicle unless the animal is restricted so to prevent access to persons, as long as such restraint provides for suitable conditions for the animal;
  2. If an animal defecated on any public or private property other that the property of its owner, the owner shall remove such defecation immediately. This section shall not apply to an individual who is physically handicapped and owns a dog which has been trained specifically for the purpose of assisthat that individual.
Rabies The owner of an animal which has not been vaccinated against rabies shall cause such animal to be vaccinated:
  1. within 10 days of acquiring the animal if it is more that 3 months old, or
  2. within 10 days after it becomes 3 months old. Following this, a yearly rabies vaccination is required.
LicensingEvery owner of an animal shall register such animal before the last day of January in each year. At registration, where a dog is more that 3 months old, the owner must show proof of vaccination for rabies and distemper.
Fee:$10 for each spayed female or neuteured male
$20 for a fertile animal of either sex
This license must then be clearly displayed by afixing it to the dog's collar.
ReclaimingFee: $25 plus boarding fee for each day impounded.
PenaltyAny person who violates any provision of this by-law is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction to a maximum fine of $500.
