Rescue of cats on the Isla Rio Cuale

We had an emergency situation for the cats on the Isla Rio Cuale. The local authorities of Puerto Vallarta ordered the cats removed. No notice was given to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the last several years to care for these cats by sterilizing them, caring for any medical needs and feeding them
daily.

Once we heard what was happening we sprang into action and had the city temporarily halt their removal. We started capturing the cats left on the island (about 30 are to date unaccounted for and presumed dead). We called a meeting of the volunteers and interested parties which was attended by over 80 people. About 30 cats were adopted at that time and the rest were placed in foster care. Slowly we have been trying to find homes for these cats and have been holding adoptions in front of Rizo's Supermarket each weekend. If you would like to foster or give a permanent home to one of these rescued cats, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

We have other cats available for adoption as well. Please visit our available cats page to see photos and descriptions of these cats.
