Friends of
the Animals, Inc. is dedicated to helping ALL animals in Puerto Vallarta and
the surrounding communities. The goal is to educate the people in the importance
of proper treatment of animals whether they are pets, strays or wild.
Our
organization functions in both the United States and Mexico. Originally we began
working to help the animals in and around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 1996. The
U.S. group was started in 2001. We combined the organizations recently by incorporating
in the U.S. as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax deductible organization in July, 2004.
Our volunteers are all national-ities and are both residents and visitors of
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico who work tirelessly to help animals. Some of the Mexican
activities to help animals includes a program called "Vets Across the Border"
which encourages vets around the world to volunteer to help the local animals,
spay/neuter & vaccination clinics, educational programs, support for the
local city operated Centro de Acopio Animal, and helping to save many local
animals with medical care, foster & finding homes. We try to provide medical
care through the assistance of local veterinarians when our funds permit us
to do so.The
U.S. volunteers primarily are involved with supporting the Mexico activities
and helping Boston Terriers & Boston mixes and helping other dogs as our
resources permit.
